Dark Mechanicum with a Tzeentchian twist.

That's the plan with this new Plog. Myself and a group of fellow hobbyists have been fully engrossed by 8th Edition and all it brings and this has led to us deciding to do a Tale of Hobbyists.

I have decided to actually start working on the Adeptus Mechanicus models i picked up two years ago (on release) and create a Dark Mechanicus army led by Tzeenchian aligned Archmagos.

First post updated with all the pictures! Thought I could do an image link through my phone but it wouldn't work.

Anyway! Today I shall be working on my test model for the army. Currently I'm thinking Tzeentchian, blue robes with chaos markings and runes and then black army with silver detailing. But we shall see how that turns out!

This is the guy I shall be working on, wish me luck.

Good start. You could use some of the hieroglyph transfers from the prospero transfer sheet (they should be pretty cheap on eBay etc) to add some detail to the coats?

 

Looking forward to seeing some paint on them.

Cheers Omegius, I have a Thousand Sons army so plenty of the transfers. I feel they may be too Egyptian in feel rather than Chaos or Tzeentchian but doesn't hurt to give it a look.

Here is the test model as he stands now. I like the deep blue that Ive got and the black armour keeps him tied to the Dark Mechanicum, but let me know what you think.

Still a little bit left to go but I didn't have the paints available. The brass needs to be highlighted up as does the black armour and silver trim. And I think i'm going to paint the inside of the cloak a dark grey too. Then it's details like eye lenses and his backpack and he's all sorted!

Then the base....

 

Should be good!

Onto the next step in the creation of this army, the maniacal Tech-Priest Dominus who leads them all.

With this chap I wanted him to look like he had at one point been a 'normal' Archmagus, displaying the robes of office, shrouded in a hood, clutching his power axe while mechadendrites play around him.

 

But I also wanted him to look like he was a long way down the road to becoming a powerful wizard, holding onto his old trappings of a Dominus almost without thinking about it and surrounding himself with the esoteric. Hence no face or lenses beneath the hood, the hand waving to cast a spell and him held aloft by a magical vortex rather than the mechadendrite nest that's more common.

I still have some greenstuff work to do to integrate everything with his cloak and am toying with the idea of sculpting fire into his casting hand.

wo wo WO! Now that is a lovely Tech-Priest conversion.  For me, it has the right amount of dark/chaos and Mechanicum combination! I think you definitely hit the idea you were going for (powerful wizard etc).  

 

imo,the flames in his hand might be to much all up top.  Maybe try adding more fire/magic to the base?

I do agree, fantastic work all around, a Tzeentchian Dark Mechanicum force is actually pretty inspired!

Chandrian: Think I agree, leave the flames off.

 

Brettfp: the body is indeed from the Changling model.

 

Captain Mike: i want the regular guys to be a lot more 'Dark Mechanicum' with touches of Tzeentch rather than overtly Tzeentchian. The Vanguard are the most normal looking unit in the army, i've just finished some creepy looking Infiltrators and my Rangers are quite chaotic looking too so nothing else will be a stock model.
