Custodian Athiair
Hey guys been a while since I wrote fluff down for my army, so I've lost everything I did for it between computer changes etc. I know this question has been covered in the past. But is the generally accepted convention for naming Sons of Nocturne to use Polynesian style names? Extropian
Are they? I must admit i never noticed much of a polynesian theme. The ones i can think of offhand are limited though, and a quick look online gives me: Artellus Numeon 0 Definitely not polynesian, but that was Heresy era to be fair Elysius - Roman Harath Shen - Dunno tbh, but doesnt feel Polynesia Tu'shan - it has an apostophe, but not much polynesian cadence to it V'Reth - As above, but even more so Argos - greek Pellas Mir'san - greek given name, Adrax Agatone - Greek Malicant - Latin sound maybe Dac'Tyr - That suspicious apostrophe again Mulcebar - Latin Drakgaard - Random mix of Dutch and other stuff, similar to Afrikaans. Sepelius - Latin If anything i'd say it's greco-roman, with a bunch of random conjoined names like Tu'Shan, Dac'tyr etc scattered around. Er....and 1 random Dutchman because why not. Acez
As Extroplan said, it's really a combination of a lot of different cultures/languages. What I've noticed though, is that the BL writers like Kyme typically go through the etymology of a word in like every language and uses that. Like the word Fire, or Hammer, the roman god Vulcan (God of Fire), are really just constantly reused. For example, Mulcebar as he mentioned above, is actually just Mulcibar (spelt somewhat different) which is an alt name to Vulcan. If you're going to make some extra fluff, this is a great way to make up some names. I've also gone on Google and found a random letter generator, and generated 6 letter words. Put an apostrophe in there and there you go assuming it makes a bit of sense....You'll notice most of the names with apostrophes have only 6 letters, although not sure why. Edit: For example here's a list of all the Gods of Fire in every culture. Switch some letters around, add some apostrophe's and you've got Salamander names. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fire_gods Edited July 26, 2017 by Acez Aothaine and Agatone 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337186-naming-convention-polynesian/#findComment-4833738 Share on other sites

Thanks guys for clarifying it, it's the apostrophe's that threw me.
