Not going to be a long initial post, but is there a valid reason that you guys can see why Sternguard Sergeants aren't allowed a Thunder Hammer, when any other squad sgt can?

Seems a bit of an odd restriction, these guys are the chapter veterans who are pretty much allowed to carry whatever weapon they want. Yet for some reason the shooty guys aren't allowed a hammer?

Annoying as hell as a Salamander player

Not one solid reason I can think of . Maybe a mistake it has to be. Looking at my Storm Giants SG Sgt W/ TH.:ermm:

Hopefully any decent person you end up playing would let you run it. Or atleast proxy as a Power Fist.

But it's a pretty defined exclusion, in that it has its own asterix just to deny them it.

Also could an admin move this to the more generic Astartes section, I put it in the wrong place

My initial reaction was is because the kit doesn't come with a TH.

But that can't be it because a lot of kit's doesn't come with Thunder Hammers, and regular tactical and even devastator sergeants can take a TH.

I don't think it's a mistake, so the only reason I can think of now is "because".
Not satisfying, but that's the way it is. At least Powerfists are cheaper than TH's now, and they can always take a PF.

Except they can. Heresy era Mk3 Tacs/Devs have TH in box, so GW thrown that option in. In fact, they IIRC don't have power fists instead, Tac rules pool bits from all 5 current boxes.
