Greetings, brothers!

Has GW neglected one of your favorite character models for years? *cough*Abaddon, Phoenix Lords*cough* Has GW given you an unsatisfactory character model? Did they never make one? Even if it's none of the above, do you think you can do a better job of it or not want to drop the cash? Then have I got the challenge for you!

Beginning September 1, 2017 and running until October 1, 2017, I will be hosting a conversion challenge to build your own version of a special character!

Rules, which I have shamelessly stolen borrowed from some of Grotsmasha's earlier challenges, are as follows:

1) The finished model is not to be painted and the conversion should be bare plastic/resin/metal though the odd painted piece stolen from a previously painted model is OK.
2) WYSIWYG applies here, so all relevant gear needs to be on the figure.
3) Maximum of 25% existing Character model:
---25% consists of the following combinations;
--- Head- 0% can be from any existing model
---1x Arm- 12.5%, 2x Arms- 25% either from the same or separate models
---1x Leg- 12.5%, 2x Legs- 25% either from the same or separate models
---Torso- 25%
---Things like FW's Red Scorpion upgrade pack DO NOT count toward the 25% limitation.

---If the character never had a model, this part applies to any existing character model you might want to use parts from. This is a conversion challenge after all!

4) Green Stuff/Sculpting putty is fine, from small details up to a full sculpt if you think you can pull it off.
5) 1 calendar month build time; September 1st 2017 until October 2nd 2017.
6) Multiple entries will be accepted provided you finish your first entry.
7) You must declare participation a minimum of 24hrs prior to declaring completion!

8) Characters must use their most recent rules, whether from one of the indexes, or their respective codex if it is available.

But what if you want to make a counts-as for a character that's no longer with us? Grukk Face-Rippa, Nuadhu Fireheart, Sly Marbo, Most of the Dark Eldar characters, Captain Cortez, and Old One-Eye being just a few examples. Well, you can do that to, but the above rules still apply.

If you're interested, start gathering ideas and bits and a sign-up thread with signature banners will follow in a few weeks. :biggrin.:

Sounds like fun! Now I just need to decide on a character... :)

A quick question:

"3) Maximum of 25% existing models in Metal/Finecast, and any Plastic Independent/Named Characters: What does this mean, exactly? When you say "existing models" do you mean the GW sculpt of the Character that we are making our own version of, or all GW models? Is the 25% limitation only applicable to the stock GW version of the character that we are converting?

Take Calgar as an example:

If I built him using only parts from the plastic Terminators box set would that be okay?

Or could I build him using <25% of the stock Calgar model (the torso or two arms eg.) and the other 75% from the plastic Terminator kit?

Or would I only be able to use 25% from the stock Calgar model, 25% from the Terminator kit and the other 50% of parts would have to come from a minimum of two seperate kits/models (25+25=50)?

---25% consists of the following combinations;
--- Head- 0% can be from any existing model
---1x Arm- 12.5%, 2x Arms- 25% either from the same or separate models
---1x Leg- 12.5%, 2x Legs- 25% either from the same or separate models
---Torso- 25%

I forgot to paste the updated version, which is fixed now. So a max of 25% of the original character model and the rest can come from other sources.

Excellent! I assumed that was the case, but just wanted to make sure :smile.:

Edit: Also, you mentioned the Dark Eldar characters. GW never released official models for several of those characters (the Barron, Duke etc.), so is it okay to convert a character that has/had rules but never a model (Saul Tarvitz, Lias Issodon, Inquisitor Valeria etc.)?

Is there a limit for subscription? This seems like an event in where I would like to participate, but I have a tournament the 16 of september and need to get a damn lot of models ready for then, so I doubt I'll be able to start anything before...

@Sagentus: tried once pre-codex using 20 berzerkers buffed by Fabius bile, a sorcerer to cast warp time on them and a chaos lord on bike to give them re-rolls. Y got the +1 attack boon and only two berzerkers died to Fabius "gifts". They managed to kill a rhino, 5 melta chosen, 5 havocs with misdile launcher a chaos lord and left a daemon prince with one wound before dying... Not too recommendable though, if it had been a more competitive game they would all have most probably died before getting to attack.

@Traitor - Hmm, I will remember that when/if i play games. I normally just build armies for fun and make sure i stick with the codex's just incase i do get a game. Plus he would be a great idea for this conversion challenge :)

Currently looking at referance pics to see what bits i could use ;)

I will definitely be taking part in this.

Kayvaan Shrike's official model looks ridiculous. Based on the pose they put him in, it appears the hills are alive with the sound of Ravens.

There's no entry cut-off date so you'll be fine. The one entry stipulation is that you must pledge your entry at least 24 hours before completion.

So does it have to be characters that have rules or could you do someone like Raldoran?

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that. Ummm... I'm going to say that to be eligible for the judging and winning it had to have rules at some point in time but if you want to enter a non-competition entry that never had rules, feel free!

One question: When you say 25% of existing character model, you mean the current model ? Or any character model?

It would be 25% from the original model of the character you are doing.

Well there goes my Lucius idea. Hmmmmm ....maybe Cap'n Badrukk. That big lump of metal is not fitting a Warboss. Or I could join the many Abbadon conversions.

Just to make it 100% clear, you DO NOT have to use the original figure at all. If you want to make a completely new figure for your character without any part of the original, that's fine.

Ok great to know, there's no way I'll sculpt a model in less than a day though, so no worries on that :P! I don't know what I'll do, maybe my army could benefit from one of those new exalted champions...
