Alternative Leman Russ from Wargame Exclusive

Hey folks,

 

Wanted to know if anyone had purchased this guy, from the pictures he looks pretty amazing and less than half the price of the Forge World model:

I like the model, but the face looks....strange...

Same here, the face looks too cartoon like and not a fan of the wolf heads on the backpack, aside from that, I think the detail is really good.

Actually the head looks alright to me but the wolf heads on the backpack is very cartoonish to me. Actually they remind me of North American/Canadian native American woodwork, the Haida I think. Doesn't jive well with the norse look.

Actually they remind me of the carved dragon heads on viking long ships so actually very Norse.

personally, Im not a fan...looks somewhat cartooney to me.

 

and the face reminds me of the aliens from the Simpsons.

The backpack vents, oversized sword and axe hilts, the curvy swordblade, the cartoony claw-boot things, the excess of items make it too busy, and the Klingon forhead crest thing... all of this make me dislike the model. If the reduced the cartoony features and the decoration noise this would be a good model I like the pose and the attention to Norse plus 40k features but they overdid it imo.

 

I prefer a much simpler viking model that cares not for trinkets and glittery things, leave those to the UM's, only that his weapon and armor works and is combat ready.

I really quite like it. Better pose than FW's. Yes the sword crossguard is a bit off, but that's easily trimmed. I like the vents on the backpack, but not the backpack itself. I think it's the two bone bits sticking up. I'd chop them off personally. Maybe replace with something slightly less 'radom bone'. The face is a little Klingon, but expresses the fury of Russ. Decent paint job and it should be fine. Not convinced on the feet either, but a bit of green stuff and you're laughing.

Generally, I like it. Lots of potential.

I stand corrected. Still doesn't change the cartoony look as many others have feedback.

 

Another thing I prefer about the current model is that it is actually dynamic, Russ rushing forward to meet his enemies. This one is typical "posing for portrait" kind of posture.

 

In the end, its an intricately beautiful model from the sword down to the backpack, but I think most won't agree that it doesn't quite fit Russ or the current 40K/30K aesthethic.

 

On the other hand, if Ragnar were to receive Primaris upgrade, I think that's how he would look. :)
