Brother and Sisters, I must confess I haven't been able to paint a single model of my vow to date (stupid RL). With my glacial pace of painting I am not going to achieve my goal. As a penance I will enroll myself into the Tyranid slow growth challenge, to get at least one unit complete by year end.

I've enjoyed seeing all the great work coming in, great work guys.

I'm a bit behind on my updates, but I've gotten a lot of painting done. In the last two weeks I did 30 hours of work on the Talos, which means it's (theoretically) about half finished.

I also managed to break the chainhooks off the bottom of the model when I was spraying it with a working coat of varnish and it fell off the flying stand peg I was using to hold it. I clipped off the remains of the bit, dug a duplicate out of my bits box, and painted it up. I'll glue it into place last, after everything else is finished, in case there are any more accidents.

Seriously, bits snapping off my models while I'm painting them is not a thing that usually happens to me! I don't like it, and would like it to stop.

Action shot!

(Remember, spontaneous combustion is a perfectly normal part of the miniature painting hobby, and nothing to worry about!)

Good Day fellow xenos,

that the final result. I leave it to my Xenos brother to consider if the change is acceptable,

Got another 12 hours of painting done on the Talos.

The end is in sight, but I don't think I'll be able to to finish it this week. And there's still a Haemonculus waiting for me once the Talos is done.

one month left.....

(Action shot. Get it?)

Got some progress done finally, need to bring the highlights on the rending claws a bit brighter still, but otherwise the left arms are complete now.

Looks great. I love the tyranid models and the classic dark blue shells

Okay, officially calling vow 1 done for me:

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but if you really squint you just might be able to spot the little project I've been working on for someone in the local game scene that has distracted me from getting my vow done quicker.

I want to vow again, especially with the winter break coming up at work- but need to physically survive the next 6 work days first hahahaha!

Not really an exciting second vow but:

I vow to complete:

1 5 man unit of breachers

1 5 man unit of fire warriors with tactical missile turret

1 3 man unit of stealth suits

Here they are *mostly* primed

If I complete this vow in a sensible time frame I will make a tertiary vow.

So as a heads up I have to bow out, after doing a little cleaning it seems that I'm missing parts from the stormsurge and two riders from my bikes and I'm not in the mood or position to replace said missing parts before christmas.

I'll post up what I have later this week once I get them done. Thank you for the inspiration to get my tail in gear for a bit and see you all in other threads.

second vow completed:

I am officially on winter break, and because of this I am vowing for a THIRD time!  I vow to complete the following by the end of the event's timeline:

1) a second ghostkeel and drones

2) Shaso R'alai and his drones

3) A stormsurge

SO, some updates on my work. I've been painting my whole Dark Eldar army in addition to my vow, and slowly but surely I'm painting through it. All that's left to do is the gear and highlights. Needless to say, that last step is going to take quite awhile, probably 2-3 days.

Here are some wyches with their freshly layered Pallid Wych Flesh:

As well as the 2 Kabalite Warriors and Trueborn who aren't wearing helmets.

I really like the orange paint scheme on the Dark Eldar. It's something that I have to keep in mind when I'm doing my Escher gang or my, for now, nameless Necromunda gang.

Orange and black create a really good contrast. Throwing in blue trim is good too. And gold and silver both work as well, white too I reckon, its quite versatile.

Freehand design work for the Talos. After I did the one on top I decided it was too busy, and came up with the simpler design below. I still like the original drawing, so I might adapt the design for something else later on. Also, I think it looks a bit like kelp (doubtless the Kelp of Suffering or Doomkelp or some such).

And here's the finished Talos.

Next, I've started the Haemonculus. This is mostly base shading and establishing midtones; his skin should look quite different when he's finished.

Here's a detail of his sump organs, before I glued the plate on.
