Ok guys, I desperately need help. About a couple of months ago, I was cruising through eBay and saw a Cerastus Knight Atrapos with a starting bid of $65. I figured, hey, I will give it a shot. I primarily play Dark Angels and Sons of Horus, but for $65 I couldn't pass it up. I ended up winning it for that amount. I promptly assembled it and since then it has sat in my drawer, languishing away.

To make a long story short, I decided that my project for the next couple of months will be the completion of my Atrapos. Which brings me to some points that are kinda questions.

1) Are there any benefits to running an Imperial Knight House vs. a Mechanicus Knight? I know there is a difference, but I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to look at the new AdMech codex. I have the Imperial Armor Index with the Atrapos' stats, but seeing as how the new Codexes supersede the Indexes I figure there might be some new issues or themes to consider.

2) What kind of custom bits are available to spruce up a Knight, GW or otherwise? I had an idea about a custom Knight house that had a Greco-Roman theme to it. I thought that it would be cool to replicate the scenes of Trajan's column on the armor panels of the Knight describing its history. Unfortunately for me, that involves either 1) a level of painting skill I do not have or 2) a level of greenstuff skill that I do not have.

3) Lastly, I would like this Knight to be field-able in either my 30k Sons of Horus army or my 40k Dark Angels Army without having to stretch the fluff too much. Is this feasible? If so, what are some of ya'lls suggestions?

Thank you in advance for answering!

Disclaimer: some of the stuff in my first answer is based off rumors and conjecture, so don't bank on it.

First thing tho, the Atropos is a Forgeworld Knight, and unless there is an FAQ I don't know about, they can't take the Questor Imperialis or Questor Mechanicus Keywords, so they take take any of the benefits yet. Sorry, I know it sucks. Still, since you asked I'll answer anyway:

1. Currently there aren't any rules for Questor Imperialis Knights. The AdMech Codex only has rules for Mechanicus aligned Knights, and unless you're playing AdMech then it wont get even 80% of the benefits from being Mechanicus aligned. Most people believe Imperial Knights will get a small book in future with rules, personally I think there will be an Index type book that covers all the small Imperial factions, like Inquisition, Assassins, Knights, etc.

2. For resin Knights? No, there ain't anything I've seen out there. On Shapeways there's a few 3D printable kits to replace pauldrons, shins, heads, but those are only for the plastic Knights. I've seen a ton of stunning conversions before by people more creative than me. You might wanna post the second question in the modeling/conversion section, they'll be able to give you much better advice than I can.

3. I like to keep my armies a little fluffy too. My first thought is perhaps this knight was injured during the HH, then some Dark Angels rescued it and the pilot swore to serve the Angels until his death to show his eternal gratitude. Then fast forward 10,000 years and the Knight has changed pilots dozens of times, but they still serve the chapter to honor that ancient pact.

Oh man! I completely forgot that it was a Forgeworld model until you said that. Well that definitely frees up a lot of my fluff and paint scheme possibilities, even if it is a little disappointing.

I will head over to Shapeways and check out what they got as well as post in the modeling/conversion section. I really like the idea of having scenes like Trajan's Column on the armor panels, and while on my lunch break today I had an idea about buying a replica of the column and just imprinting it onto a thin sheet of green stuff to capture the detail and then piece it to fit the armor panels.

I have to say, I love your fluff on this. Though I am a Dark Angel guy, I can't help but like Cypher because of the fact that it is a title/legacy that is passed down, not just a single man. I may end up borrowing it, but I will be certain to credit you!

I really appreciate your thorough response, it was super helpful and I have a clearer picture of what I am going to do with my Atrapos. I will make sure to post any updates or pictures to keep you in the loop!
