Danny Cyanide
It's great to see your Steel Legion coming along! I just wanted to let you know that I've been getting a lot of enjoyment from your YouTube channel! As someone who has been out of the game since 6th edition, and having been a chaos player back the, your videos have been a great resource to getting my head around the Guard in 8th! Keep putting out great minis and great videos! zero88
Love the army; how's the trade-off between having to deal with the minus to hit on a mechanized army (really annoying) and getting to ignore -1 AP (which seems like it's getting better and better with the prevalence of intercessors, twin assault cannon razorbacks etc) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341227-raising-a-regiment-234th-armageddon-steel-legion/page/3/#findComment-5058357 Share on other sites
Tyr13
Not OP, but for me, I still prefer Tallarn for mechanised. Ignoring -1 to hit is just too important for a mobile play-style, which is how I envision SL. If youre content using chimeras as semi-mobile bunkers, then the SL trait should be fine. Mordian Glory
Greeting Loyal Commanders, It has been many weeks since I updated this thread, but dont worry for I have not abandoned it! I have been very busy working on my Black Templars, but they will soon be finished and then it will be time to return to the IG. The 234th are almost completed. The army can be played in its current state but it lacks redundancy in the event of a edition or points change. To help mitigate this I have begun work on a Manticore and Hellhound. Both have been built and undercoated. Also, just before GW pulled the metal regiments I got my hands on 2 squads of Steel Legion and an extra plasma gunner :) I also want to have a few more options available to my Sentinels, currently they only have the lascannons painted. I want to also have the classic "Armageddon" pattern available so will be painting up my plasma cannons. Thats all for now folks! Tyr13
Really a shame about the old metals... Got another three squads myself, just so Im a bit more flexible - now I can theoretically run 60 men with no special or heavy weapons, or I can run some special weapon squads, and I even had some spare for some voxes and a command squad. Didnt manage to get any more HWS or plasma gunner though, so Im mildly jealous. :PHope youre set with everything you got though! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341227-raising-a-regiment-234th-armageddon-steel-legion/page/3/#findComment-5112458 Share on other sites
Mordian Glory
Greeting Commanders, Hobby progress has been slow on the 234th, My Black Templars have been taking up all my attention recently. However, the Steel Legion continue to be my main army and I have 2 battle reports that I think are worth sharing :) Enjoy! Reinforcements have arrived! 2 squads of Steel Legion, a Hellhound and a Manticore! Already made a start on the tanks and gonna base the infantry today. Mordian Glory
Greeting Commanders, I had a game last night vs the savage Sons of Russ and their new codex. It was a crushing victory for the 234th who swept the enemy clear from the board middle of turn 4! My opponents list was basically a Landraider Crusader full of wulfen backed up my lots of long fangs and grey hunters. The game was a textbook battle for the Guard. I targeted the Landraider first and destroyed it in a huge volley of plasma and lascannon rounds. With my opponent de-meched I had reduced his maneuverability and forced him to foot slog into my guns. Turn 2 I hosed down the long fangs, significantly reducing the AT of the Wolves. With the primary threats killed or contained (I had his wulfen pretty much dealt with at this point) It was time for the Guard to roll out. I pushed forward all across the line, going nearly max distance with all the vehicles. my fire power was reduced but I still hurt his grey hunters badly and the dreadnoughts, and taking my opponent by surprise as he expected me to gunline all game. There was nothing that the Astartes could do and they where crushed on T4. It felt really good to use the Steel Legion again, the firepower and durability of the army is so good. I am looking forward to using them this weekend at a 2 day 5 game tournament :D Pictures below as usual. WarriorFish
Sounds like a good win, and a lesson for your opponent in not putting all his eggs in one basket ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/341227-raising-a-regiment-234th-armageddon-steel-legion/page/3/#findComment-5156071 Share on other sites
