I enjoy modelling and painting, but I had no idea what to do with the models, so I began GMing a Dark Heresy 2E. Then I also wound up modelling stuff not in the game.

Anyway, lets see what turns up!

The PCs were an Arbitrator, Desperado and an Ad Mech

Visors

They soon met a harlequin that liked to mess with them. I love John Blanche and felt harlies should be "horror clowns" more than theatrical types:

The gang then ran into a servitor in a dark tunnel, he had gone out of his mind

Next adventure they'll run into a Navigator House (House Yaulighz) that's somewhat of an outcast or renegades. They rely heavily on Beastmen to serve their house after discovering a sector that contained a large number of them close to the Ghoul Stars.

I love that "servitor in a dark tunnel." Where'd you get the parts to kitbash him?

Oh boy where to begin...

The legs are a some chaos warrior I think, the body is an ork body with GS to bulk it. The shoulders are some WHFB (AOS) empire guys' bodies, the skeleton and the spear (and a shield on the back) come from Tomb Guardians. The right arm is some ork chain axe and the spine is some necron bit. Some GS and some wires and voilá! A servitor is born~~

I wanted to make some terrain or a center piece for the gang to capture. So I decided I'd make a Void Shield Generator that was powered by the souls of dead psykers. This is a fun piece to work on, but is taking a little longer than I expected. It's essentially 5 unrelated figures, a rampart and a tower. It's still a WIP.

The void shield generator gets a little more love and paint. Still all very WIP and rough.

The psykers hanging on the tower have gotten most of their paint, I'm going to finish the tower structure's paint before doing final highlights

The GSC is a little darker and has some blotchier areas, the pic is so-so

I've always wanted to make a squad of Thunder Warriors! I finally gave in and made a 4-man team, comprised of Arik Taranis, two standard warriors and a psyker:

Arik Taranis

So his main body is a Blood Warrior. Like an idiot I accidentally bought the Easy-to-Assemble, which they are NOT if you intend on cutting them to pieces, reposition them, head swap and so on and so forth. He has a new roman-style head; his spear, spear arm and shield are from the Varanguard. His jump pack is these big barrel ones I love. I sculpted a lightning over the demon's head on the shield and a Raptor Imperialis on his jump pack. Last but not least, he's got his Raptor Imperialis shoulder pad.

Titus

He was a fun little build, simple enough. His body is from an old chaos warrior with some lightnings sculpted on his hip armor. Too bad the cloak covers his shoulders! He didn't get a Raptor Imperialis shoulder pad. I DID make him a custom Thunder Warrior bolter, I took an old ork shoota, a bit of sprue and the nose off a bolter, sculpted a lightning and BAM "this looks like a loud gun". Then I added a Roman style head. I wanted to make it look like he's out of ammo and affixing his bayonet, I hope he doesn't just look confused about whose blade that is :biggrin.:

Vorenus

The Ultramarine head fit well enough to my liking for a Thunder Warrior, the Space Wolf gladius was there as a nod to one of John Blanche's artwork of a Thunder Warrior standard bearer, but I filled up the runes with greenstuff and added a lightning on the back. The lightning is a bit rough and coarse, but I wanted that style for my guys. Then it was mostly just adding the Raptor Imperialis shoulder pad and a lighting to finish him up. Naturally there was a lot of GS and glue work to fit the arms as well. His bolter was a simple SW bolter, I didn't want to build another massive one like Titus' bolter.

Strix the psyker

Here's the big question: were there psykers among the Thunder Warriors? Honestly, I don't know. Maybe psychopaths and murderers pumped full of steroids and gene enhancements wouldn't be stable enough. However, they might just have been just the right guys to use psychic powers. Arik Taranis' aura was described by a Thousand Sons psyker as: "aura too bright to look upon. His presence had a gravity all it's own, demanding all attention and fear." and he "could barely stand to turn his psychic senses on him for fear of being overwhelmed". Fighting alongside The Emperor as well, they would have had quite the teacher with them. So...

Strix was made from a Blood Warrior as well, I kept the axe even to keep to the Thunder Warriors' brutal reputation. His right hand has a short staff with a single headed imperial eagle. I have him a roman style head that was a bit elongated and a little odd, but I thought that was fitting. He's got the Raptor Imperialis shoulder pad like they all do (except Titus). Then I added a cloak and sculpted the raptor on his chest too.

So there we have them! My first 4 Thunder Warriors. I'm thinking of getting more Blood Warriors and going nuts. But Next step is... PAINT!
