A long (Custodes based) hiatus - I return with progress. After fresh stripping the first squad and starting over (and trying not to achieve some ridiculous, lofty goals in painting) - the test mini is nearing completion:

Waiting on the base to dry (iron earth and iron crust, hence the slight textural difference) before weathering the legs. Not pleased with the icon, going to have to look into some thin plasticard and maybe cut out some thin strips to make the icon. But that's for another evening.

The Knights return, until the next unexpected break. C&C welcomed as always, gents.

Well, after another hiatus and some soul searching, the Iron Knights were a nice idea..

But..

The amount of freehand that was going to be required. The colours, so close to Iron Hands that I'd already done a bunch of (and still not completed), the fact the black always looked... flat. Unfinished. It bugged me, bad. So after a while my mind drifted back to what I was going to do originally.

A chapter that sacrificed it all to stop an alien threat that would've torn across the Imperium. A chapter wiped out to all but a final few, told to Crusade into the stars and left with nothing. A chapter reforged in the new breed by Guilliman, who after finding their history set off to find their predecessors - still be crusading across the stars in the name of the Emperor.

So, without further ado, the first miniature done:

An Astral Knights Sergeant. The photo is a bit poor, I need to take better photos with this lightbox thing in the future. Note to self, black background next time.
Anyway, think this is the road I'm taking with the Primaris. Props to Pop Goes the Monkey, the icons are sweet. Just in time for the Necron threat appearing...

C&C as always, welcome. Cheers peoples.

Love the new scheme. Only thing that bothers me a bit is how thick the icons on the pads are; I think their thickness clashes with all the fine details of the GW parts. But, aside from tedious filing, there's not a whole lot else that can be done there, I think.

Great stuff, all the same. Really liking the new direction.

Cheers people

_MAGGOT_ - I had contemplated it, but it's a nightmare to file them down. You can see in the Iron Knight image, the icon has actually snapped at some point in the filing. Either way, what's done is done.

Oh, are these 3D icons added to stock GW plastic pads? No wonder they're that thick, then.

Still, great scheme all the same. Looking forward to seeing more!

Update!

Not much really, after numerous sessions in the dettol and generally knit-picking my own work (and several poor basecoats due to some poor airbrush finishes) - just basecoat silvers and wash, the Captain in Fatman Armour is tidied up post wash and highlighted but I think the photos have washed it out... Still, progress is progress. Also really, really need to take a look at how to take photos with this phone camera.
