Kill-Team Blackthorn

Recruitment and OOC

Hi all,

After a discussion with Dosjetka, I'm going to put this up and see what interest can be garnered.

I've been reading up for several months on the rules for Deathwatch. I'm very keen to get a game going in real life with my friends, and I see this as an opportunity to practice with other Deathwatch nuts!

We have an opportunity here for 3-8 players who'd like to participate in the game. Unlike The Higher Call, which is purely narrative, I see this game as being based on the DW rules-set.

In the short-term, I don't require a fully-made character sheet posted at all - I just need to know if there is interest and what chapter/specialism you'd like to play. At this moment, I would like to steer away from a Librarian as a character. If you wish to include a Marine from a custom Chapter, that will need to be something you discuss with me. This period of character creation is likely to take a couple of weeks, as I have to fit this around work and my other commitments (real-life and here on the B+C) - I'd like to take players through the character creation process to ensure I understand it and so I have practice with my real-life group.

I have a Blackshield Assault character already built from a previous, short-lived DW campaign here on the B&C.

Id be interested in running him and can always reroll his stats and gear if you'd prefer.

As I too am really eager to learn this game I would also play a different character if you don't want a Blackshield. I know some people don't care for them. If its any consolation there would be no Alpha Legion shenanigans on my part.

Edited by reckoning

Reckoning: I'm not against a Blackshield in theory, though obviously there can be only one and I would need to know the "true" backstory if you have one. I'm not a fan of "secretly a Marine from the Sons of Horus" etc, etc. As I said, we're going through the character creation process so we'd have to work on the things the book stats - solo mode / squad mode, etc.

Dos: Awesome, will be cool to have you along. Perhaps we can additionally create some fluff for your crusade during character creation!

That would be cool indeed. My plan is to have this Black Templar be Marshal Mortimer Varkan, leader of my Crusade, close to the beginning of his long and illustrious service so this roleplay could help me forge his early history. :tu:

I'm interested, but I have not played Deathwatch yet. I am no stranger to pen and paper RPGs (mostly D&D 3.5, oWoD and Shadowrun), but play by post is new to me as well.

Before I sign up, please tell me, when (and in which time zone) you plan to play and how often.

I have no set character yet, but I am thinking about either a Salamander Pyromancer or a Sanguinary Priest

I'm based in the UK, but this is a forum-based roleplay, not a chatroom game. As such, the play is largely asynchronous and can be thought of as a mix between a collaborative story and a pen-and-paper roleplay - in that I would be looking to players to add a bit of "colour" rather than single-line posts with dice rolls.

This is largely an experiment, but one I'm keen to push to fruition. Players who are flexible and excited are the key to making this work!

Awesome stuff, guys! Really pleased to see so much interest. Some really cool writers among here too!

Dos - just to mention, as this is a dice-based game, I cannot guarantee that your character will emerge alive - or unscathed in body or in soul!

So, it appears at the moment we have interest in:

- Blackshield Assault Marine

- Black Templars Assault Marine

- Iron Hands Apothecary (?!)

- Salamanders Devastator

- Consecrator Tactical

- Storm Sons ????

That's a fairly healthy complement so far! There are still places if you're reading and are interested - it's always possible people will drop out, so I'd rather be a little over-full. Whilst Morovir might be an apothecary, we at the moment don't have a Techmarine. (Personally I'd b e happy with an Iron Hands Techmarine if you were partial, Morovir?)

Loving the posts so far, guys. Looking forward to more overnight!

Certainly interested to join up. I still have a my Raven Guard Techmarine concept laying around but I can go Tactical or even Apothecary with a few changes. Though I might change my chapter to a Space Wolf or White Scar, seeing as we have a collection of rather..sombre..Astartes around at this time.

I think it's part of the nature of roleplaying that people play dark, inscrutable (and largely silent!) badasses - but then, when we get to the personal demeanours, it's entirely possible some of our characters might be more gregarious and the like.

I'm just sorting a few things out in the background and will get the first big post up for players to follow on Tuesday. If you're interested, then by all means post!

Alright, so I've heavily (heavily) modified a character sheet from online to make a template I'm somewhat happy with.

The link to our Kill-Team's Google Drive is here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wL0T1-9VMdhT8bkaPmdibqauQZ-UeSgz - please check if you can download this, as it will make things a lot easier.

I can view, download, and print it, though nothing else.

Im interested and would be rolling either a Librarian or Apothecary but am open to whatever is needed to fill.

Also, how do you feel about using Rites of Battle to RNG-Roll a custom chapter into existence for our characters?

Edited by Slips

Ok, I've downloaded it and filled in the top section. I'll hold off on the rolling until your mega-post Molotov.

Edit: My guy is called 'Greysight', (Khorchin: 'Saraluzekh', meaning lit. 'Grey-Watch').

Interestingly, and you couldn't make this up, out of the fifty or so names I've generated for my Storm Sons, I picked 'Grey-Sight' at random. It turns out, in Mongolian, the word for 'Sight' also is the word for 'Watch', and grey is often used if silver is not available. The link to the silver deathwatch pauldron is too much of a coincidence.
