bike squad best load out

Been toying around with lists for a local comp and I keep taking out the tanks and dreads as I'm running Hellblasters and plasma inceptors, + Sam & Talon Master

 

The good old fav's of black Knights seem a tad expensive anyways a standard bike squad seems decent value if your giving it ignores cover & re-rolls. Attack bikes are excruciatingly expensive for what they are as are standard speeders.

 

so 4 bikes 2 melta guns sgt has storm bolter (multiple squads prob 3)

Makes use of speed of the raven has 2 short range D6 weapons & 18 bolter shots at half range

 

Anyone got some better loadouts for horde killing / tank hunting? how many squads?

I mean horde killing you can go 2 flamers and a combo-flamer/storm bolter. Plasma bikes are probably the most flexible as they are multi-role and midline expense. Melts bikes seem attractive if you need high damage weapons, my issue with them has been getting them close enough to make use of those melta and they are more expensive than plasma bikers.

 

Oh and 4 bikes with a storm bolter has 20 shots at short range (4 from each bike, 4 from the storm bolter)

One thing you do not realize is that you are allowed to take index options per the designers commentary.  So since we could take them in index imperium 1, we still can.

 

@stormxlr, you cannot take a storm bolter and powersword, the sarge can only take one option replacing his bolt pistol.

I very much realize the index ruling from there...

 

But if you use the index you lose jink..... and do we think the index will Be around forever?

 

I’m pretty grim about it :sad.:. But hopefully they’ll faq it!

And they wont FAQ it because they only include rules that are for plastic pieces that on the sprue in the box .

Yes... yes you can.

The codex says he can replace his bolt pistol with something g from the melee weapons or pistol list. The index wording says he can replace his pistol with an (singular) item from the sargeant equipment list. So no... No you can't.

okay, i had it wrong, that sucks.

 

Either way giving him a powersword is worthwhile investment.

I think the most competitive way to run them is probably 3 strong to maximise special weapons (and a matching combi for the sergeant if using the index). 

 

Choice of special weapon depends on the role really.  Melta for a flexible unit that can engage light infantry and armour, or flamers for an anti-infantry specialist.  I think plasma really need to supercharge to shine, so unless supported by Sammael is probably a touch risky on bikers.  While I am a fan of grav weapons, I feel volume of shots is important due to the 5's to wound vehicles, so prefer to save that for veterans or devastators. 

 

Personally I run my bikers 6 strong with dual melta, chainswords and a power sword on the sergeant.  I value flexible units that can tackle multiple threats when building lists.  This has some anti-infantry, anti-tank and combat ability at a push but I don't think is the optimal way to run them.

Gotcha but I’m still not expecting them to keep the index all the way through 8th. So I’d rather them faq the sgt equip for bikers. I’ve even heard that SM codex bikers have that. But that’s just hear say.

 

But glad you pointed it out cause I forgot about that between their comments and our codex drop.
