Even in its dilapidated state, the Dauntless-class light cruiser is an imposing edifice to the Omnissiah - though it is ungainly now, plucked from the void. You find yourselves at the foothills of a metallic mountain, and climbing upward is the only way forward. Abstracting the Battlefield To represent a climb of at least a kilometre, I'm looking to borrow some techniques from the Modiphius 2D20 systems. With your support this should allow us to simulate the Kill-Team traversing across the hull of the Voice of Thunder. Each step is a "zone" - as the map is now, the Kill-Team can be thought of as being in "Zone 8", and the goal is to reach "Zone 1", off-screen, where a breach in the ship's hull will allow the Kill-Team to enter. A Full Movement action will allow you to enter a consecutive zone (up or down). You cannot leave a zone with enemies in. Marines equipped with Jump Packs may traverse two zones with a Full Movement action and may travel over a zone with enemies in to enter an empty zone. Shooting within the same zone is considered to be +10 Shooting a consecutive zone is +0 Shooting two zones away is -10 Shooting three zones away is -30 (Unless something weird makes a mockery of this.) The sight of the ruined Dauntless-class light cruiser inspired a sense of awe in the brothers of the Deathwatch, and they would need to climb the crenellated edifice in order to gain entry. The magnetic soles of your power-armoured boots mean that you adhere to the vessel with ease, leaving your hands free to carry your weapons. The air of the giant cavern around you resounds and echoes with the shrieks and cries of birds - but no, not birds. Avian monstrosities held aloft on leathery, bat-like wings. Their actions were coldly logical with no lack of reinforcements, merely needing to wear down and delay the kill team but also presented opportunity as the first of their command creatures came into range. Atratus raised his rifle and fired, readying a second shot before the first had impacted in the knowledge that the warrior xenoforms would not fall so easily. No call for bravado or the honour of first contact, no place for braging rights, only victory or death. Ever the shadow he crouched behind a torn protrusion in the hull seemingly too small to hide such a large figure, ever the hunter he crouched ready to leap forward into battle. Half aim and shoot at the leading shrike. BS roll of 20 = hit, damage = 22 to the head location, Pen 7, Felling(2) - works out to 16 damage after armour and toughness. Atratus will use a free action to make a cohesion test (passed) to enter squad mode with either Varvost should he wish to later call assault, but will accept the squad request of the devastators should his seniors call for his services as a spotter. If you hit, you do 1 Magnitude Damage to the Horde, plus another for using an Explosive Weapon. For each 2 degrees of success you will do another hit up to a maximum of two additional (increased to three because of Bolter Drill.) So if you roll a 60 or less, you do one (plus one) hit; If you roll a 40 or less, you do two (plus one) hits; If you roll a 20 or less, you do three (plus one) hits. Lifting his boltgun to brace it against his pauldron, Yeng fired it repeatedly into the swarm. Tracking and switching, each round found its way home, tearing apart the flying horrors. Full action: move forward (to next zone?), while firind on semi-auto. BS40 (+10 due to Semi-Auto Burst) (+40 due to the size of the Horde) (-30 due to range) for a total of 60. No negative modifier for movement, thanks to Yeng's armour's Bring Death from Afar quality. Roll is 19 – three (plus one) hits. What damage does the bolter do? Same as Ghent's, outlined above? If it's 1D10+9, the roll is: a perfect 10(+9)! If I need to roll individually, the subsequent results are: 4(+9), 8(+9) and 7(+9). Grand total of 66 for all four shots. Slips Posted June 19, 2020 Share Posted June 19, 2020 (edited) Solastion enters Squad Mode as a free action and then, using another free action, enter a frenzy via his Scion of Sanguinius Ability (FF p.44) and FINALLY as another free action using 3 Cohesion Points, he will use the Furious Charge Codex Squad Mode ability (p.221 Core) to grant those within support range of him the ability to make an immediate Charge Move as well as Standard attack which re-rolls damage. Due to the Scion of Sanguinius Ability, if Varvost is in support range, he, himself, may also enter a Frenzy as a Free Action due to being a Blood Angel (or successor). ++PURGE THE XENOS! LET NONE STAND IN THE WAY OF OUR VENGEANCE!++ His jump pack igniting furiously as he launched himself into the air at the swarm of gargoyles overhead. Solastion will make a Charge Move at the Horde C He has Base WS 56 + 20 ( berserk charge) + 30 (Horde size) + 10 (frenzy) = 116 (dont think I'm forgetting anything) WS 116 vs 81 = 3DoS = 1 hit + 1 extra hit per 2 DoS for 2 total hits vs the Horde. Damage Dealt = 2 Magnitude. Standard Attack as part of the Furious Charge squad mode ability at Horde C Base WS 56 + 30 (horde) + 10 (frenzy) = 96 WS 96 vs 41 = 5 DoS = 1 hit + 2 extra for a total of 3 hits vs the Horde. Damage Dealt = 3 Magnitude Total Magnitude Damage = 5 As he flew into and past the horde, his chainsword swinging as his rocket propelled from rocketed through the massed bodies, he tore a bloody swath through the swarming mass causing a number to die from the trauma on the spot or die upon impact with the metallic hull of the Cruiser as they crashed into it. As a full action, he will then spend another 3 Cohesion points (boy its getting expensive) to activate his Chapter's Storm of Hell ability (sustained) which grants those in support range of him (basically anyone who followed him in his Furious Charge) the Frenzy (+10WS, Str, Tgh, WP; -20 BS, Int) Talent and the Furious Assault Talent (After making an All Out Attack, the marine can make another free attack using all the same modifiers). Total Cohesion Spent = 6. Through all the wrath of Solastions cry and the fury of the charge the young Astartes remains detached, punching through the gap created by the sons of Sanguinius and wheeling in the air with a speed no mortal man would survive, jump pack vanes glowing white hot at maximum burn as he crashed back down through the swarm in a bloody swathe. The momentum of the action carried him past the xenos to land back on the hull of the ship as he turned and prepared to jump again, assessing the ever changing battlefield. The command xenos were priority target but the lesser beasts could not be allowed to push forwards unopposed. Free charge from furious charge. Atratus does not enter frenzy.Attack roll: 23 vs 63 +10(charge), 10(hunter of aliens), 40(size) = one hit and ten extra degrees (6 hits total) Damage = 3d10+16 (death from above) = 32, pen 3 Extra hits from wrathful descent = d10 = 8 Standard attack (if furious charge does indeed grant it) = 5 - giving another 6 hits Atratus inflicts a total of 20 magnitude damage on the hode Assassin strike roll: 5 vs 70 - success, Atratus drops back down to range band 8 without attacks of opportunity Edited June 19, 2020 by A.T.
