Slow, uncertain, created to strip the last vestiges of life from the husk of a starship rather than fast the wrath of the Astartes the beasts latched their focus onto that which moved across their path without the decisiveness of the assault creatures they had fought before. As tempting a target as the clustered xenos made it was a situation that would change soon enough if the leader-beasts pressed their control. Bringing up his rifle once more Atratus sought out the creature he had wounded earlier intent on finishing the job. Evidently his chapter's bastardised version of the Codex Astartes had lost some of its tactical nuance in translation - it went against everything Guilliman had taught for an Apothecary to take point, disregarding the safety of the geneseed in his possession through such rash actions. But then again, what more could he expect from a lesser Chapter, one whose founder had not fought through the fires of the Heresy and endured ten thousand years to continue to pass on his wisdom to this day? Endure. Although it rankled, he would not dishonour the sons of Obstiria and Guilliman by failing in this most sacred of duties. As one of the Shrikes made for Yeng, Solastion moved to intercept, his Jump Packs roar audible over the staccato thumps of the bolters and the occasional woosh of the missile launcher being fired. Solastion will Charge Shrike 3. Charge = WS56 + 10 (frenzy) + 20 (berserk charge) + 20 (size) = WS106 WS106 vs 71 = Hit + 3DoS. 71 reversed to 17 for Right Arm hit location. It was not the way of the Raptors to rush in so heedlessly, but then again no opportunity could be ignored. Atratus lept towards the closest shrike, timing his strike to Tybers movements as he recalled their sparring in the cages, long training sessions on the journey here to prepare them to shoulder to shoulder as though brothers of one chapter. Charge into Shrike 2Roll to hit = 22 vs 113 (63 WS, 10 charge, 10 hunter, 10 outnumbered, 20 size) - HIT with many degrees of success. Damage 3d10+16 Tearing (death from above) = 21+16 = 37 damage, Pen 3 After toughness and armour = 22 wounds In the unlikely event the Shrike is still alive when its action comes around Atratus will perform his usual parry/counter attack/assassin strike. Parry WS target is 83 unless outnumbering bonus is also included, counter attack also at WS 83, athletics to withdraw is 70. If you hit, the Tyranid will attempt to Dodge. This is useful, because a character usually only gets one dodge per round - if the Shrike spends it on you, then Solastion and Varvost can easily kill it. If the dodge fails, you will do damage (you can pre-roll this ahead of time.) The Chainsword will do: 1D10+3(+Strength Bonus of 8)(+2 from Hunter of Aliens) for a total of 1D10+13 The Chainsword is a Tearing weapon, so you roll your D10 twice and choose the highest. Again, if you roll a 10 you roll again and keep rolling until you don't roll a 10. Alternately, Yeng can adopt a Defensive Stance - this doesn't do any damage to the Tyranid, but the Tyranid will be at -20WS to hit you, and you will gain an additional parry. His face set stonily behind his helm, Yeng holstered his boltgun and drew his chainsword Begtse. Bringing it up, he moved to support the Knight of Blood, lashing out guardedly. 'You do an attack as above, but at -10WS (so your total would be 85.)' Result is: 13 'If the Tyranid survives to attack you back, you are at +10 to your parry.' The stripped-down blade carved into the staggered beast and lodged there briefly, the chain churning and repeatedly dragging it down as it tried to rise. Solastion is immobilised and cannot participate (until the Alpha Shrike releases him.) Atratus, Yeng, Solastion, Varvost and Vorr are in combat and can only use bolt pistols or grenades. Tyber and Greysight are in Solo Mode and do not participate. --> Akkad Charge move towards the Solastion/Varvost/Vorr combat. It would seem that the move to higher ground had not come too soon, had the horde simply been waiting for them to reach open ground before encircling? Atratus Bolter Assault Bolt pistol vs shrike 2Roll to hit = 49 = hit Damage = 9+9, Pen 4 = 8 damage after armour and toughness, which should finish it off. Atratus will use his assassin strike move (roll 19 vs target 70) to move into cover/concealment as best he can against the newly arrived flanking forces. Those wedge-headed monsters of the Rim had similarly sought to entrap and ensnare. These tyranids didn't seem to combine that with mental onslaught as the Sabact Sourceri had, but the intent was clear. So was the solution, of course. As the first Odes put it 'Answer fire with water; aggression with calm – and when met with silk, answer with steel.' 'Subtlety and traps have their place, alien,' he called, drawing its attention from the struggling Knight of Blood, 'But there's not much you can do to slip away from this.' Spying a likely wound, he stepped forward onto one of its trailing rear limbs and rammed a primed krak grenade into it. He continued past, Begtse warding him, to place himself between Solastion and the creature.
