apologist
'Continue the advance! Inside must be the aim!' yelled the Gatebreaker, as he holstered his chainsword and drew his boltgun once more. Striding forward, he called out, 'Akkad; can you clear the running ones?' even as he opened up on the retreating flying creatures. Continue to advance, while shooting a semi-auto burst at the retreating Gargoyle horde G. BS40 (+10 due to Semi-Auto Burst) (+10 due to Akkad's Big Guns Never Tire) (+10 due to Size) = 70(?) Die roll is 5. That's six degrees of success, right? Presumably that takes it over the boltgun's maximum rate of fire, so four(?)magnitude damage, plus one for Explosive for a total of: Five(?) magnitude damage to Gargoyles G. Slips
Solastion will attempt to finish off Genestealer 3; if he is attacked in CC, he is still able to Parry while being Frenzied via talents. Mazer Rackham
As Teralil struggled to right the machine-spirit of his bolter and the Librarian was set upon, from behind came the call to arms from Tyber. The small pip on Akkad's retinal display showed the huge Marine lashing into the fray with the chattering warriors of the hive-ship. Risking a glance over his shoulder, he saw through the murk, the dark shade of the giant hewing the Oathblade like a madman. Limbs were shredded and bodies cleaved, yet with every slam of metal into meat, he made scant headway. ++A little help would not be amiss...++ the big Marine intoned with a sigh, obviously not enjoying himself. Commissar Molotov
With the hordes broken and reeling, the Kill-Team can seize the opportunity in front of it; the gaping wound in the side of the shattered hulk that was once the Voice of Thunder. The Astartes surge forward, Bolter-fire tearing the final creatures to shreds as they make for safety. After the nauseating organic shapes of the Hive ship, the broken cruiser is a return to familiar Imperial STC constructs - cold steel and stone. The decking is canted, at an angle; whilst no obstacle to the magnetic soles of your power-armoured boots, it is still disorienting and takes a few moments to adjust. The air is at least clearer here - whilst still contaminated, the concentration of acidic vapours is far lower here. Here, amidst the darkness and the stale air, you have a few moments of respite. Many of you have armour and wargear that is suffering from the acidic air. Varvost's face is sheeted with clotted blood; his eye socket is a bloody ruin. GM: If any of you need any inspiration for your posts, this would be an emotive point for the Blackthorn Brethren - who would be returning to the Voice of Thunder - and for Swordhand, who are avenging the ghosts of their past. apologist
The others had carried the stricken Eradicator in, following Atratus and Sabaan's wary ingress to the vessel. Yeng struggled to control his own breathing as Solastion peered over his shoulder. Vârvost had lost consciousness. Leaned against the wall, his head bobbing back and forth almost imperceptibly as his dual hearts frantically pumped high-pressure blood round his system. To hide his discomfort, Yeng turned to the Crimson Knight, wordlessly proffering his narthecium, open-handed. Solastion nodded. "Two would work better than one; and what we can do for him will depend on our cooperation." Attempting to heal Solastion: Make a Medicae Test (Int 54)(+10 Medicae Skill)(+20 Narthecium) for a total Int of 84.On a successful roll you restore your Intelligence bonus (5) in Damage to Solastion. This is doubled by the Narthecium to 10, and Enhanced Healing gives you an additional +1D5.Solastion has only taken 4 Damage, so this should be fine. Result is: 55 – Success. D5 result is 1 (d'oh!), but overall result is 11 Damage healed; so the boss is back to full health The Crimson Knight's wounds were minor; but Yeng worked diligently as Solastion appraised Vârvost. There was little time to spend on niceties, so the Gatebreaker applied a generous smear of medical clay over the counterseptic unguents; the Crimson Knight's body would do the rest. Temporary synpak foam formed an airtight seal on the warrior's armour. Wiping his hands, Yeng stretched and rolled his shoulders, preparing himself. "It is said: When it is time for the horse to be shod; the stablehand calls for the blacksmith. I have done what little I can, Albikus; it is for Morthas and Nycax," he broke off to nod to the two Techmarines, "to see how your armour's spirit may be appeased.". Using the Deathwatch-supplied narthecium to inload Solastion's diagnosis – the Gatebreakers' antique plate lacked anything remotely compatible – Yeng's face hardened as he lifted the Eradicator's punctured chestplate. Attempting to heal Vârvost: Varvost has 24 Wounds and has suffered 30 Damage. The final six points are critical damage, and means that Varvost is critically damaged.Ordinarily, a Critically Damaged character may only restore 1 Damage on a successful Medicae Test.Again, a Medicae Test (Int84) will restore 1 Damage to Varvost. This can be doubled by the Narthecium to 2, and Enhanced Healing can give an additional +1D5, for a total of 3-7 Damage being recovered.IF Yeng can restore 6 or 7 damage (getting Varvost out of critical damage) then Varvost can spend a Fate Point to recover additional damage. (This would be optimal!)You may choose to spend a Fate point to re-roll your 1D5 if you wish. Result is: 84. Is rolling equal to the result a pass? If so, then: D5 result is 5 (hooray!), +2 for a total of 7. The apothecary's hands swiftly grew slick as he delved into the marine's body; cauterising, sealing and making good what damage he could. Solastion monitored the Eradicator's vitality, providing invaluable support for the Gatebreaker. Head throbbing, Yeng's forehead grew beaded with sweat. The damage here was colossal – he hated the fact that most Gatebreakers would have been dead in a similar condition – but he was determined to demonstrate his chapter's worth. Chewing his lip with concern, Yeng was forced to direct Solastion to deal with a sudden haemorrhage, as he was fully engaged with rebonding torn tissue around the primary liver and oolitic kidney. The Crimson Knight was cool under pressure, and his deft hands quickly resolved the problem. Yeng appreciated his colleague's respectful silence as Tyber stalked past, spitting a derisive insult at the patient. Long minutes passed, but at last Yeng sat back on his haunches, the Eradicator remaining unconscious, but out of mortal danger. The Crimson Fist approached. Yeng looked up at the Librarian, whose body language seemed sympathetic, but straightforward. No bon mot passed the Gatebreaker's lips. Steel Company
Tyber slid his arming sword back into the scabbard before ejecting the magazines from his pistols and replacing them with fresh ones. Out of the corner of his eye his helm highlighted Varvost, the sight causing an involuntary bit of speech from him to him and him alone, “Idiot. You let your rage consume you, and you’ve cost us time and a body.” Slipping his pistols back into the holsters, Tyber begun to move about the hull trying to find a decent enough breaching point, with a heavy sigh he opens the link he shares with Akkad and Akkad alone, +Ahu, we need to move faster. We need to get to the Dark Lantern… I feel a drawn to it… There is someone or something that has answers I need.+ Edited July 9, 2020 by Steel Company Mazer Rackham and Commissar Molotov 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344357-dw-blackthornswordhand-episode-iii-the-sundered-house/page/75/#findComment-5558529 Share on other sites

Mazer Rackham
The lad's honesty was a great balm to the deep scars on his heart, as he stepped inside the breach. A massive hole torn in the side of a warship, steel chewed away by meaty jaws. It proved the maxim of flesh over steel, upon which the proselytes were so keen, and yet, Akkad knew bullets scoffed at the belief. ++ Yes, Ahu,++ he was distracted, by the pathos of the steel corpse around them. The adamantium hull was lifeless, the usual pleasant thrum of plasma reactors pulsing through the deck, the clean echo of his own armour's servo-mechanics was absent. Instead, he could perceive the greater mass of carbuncle-muscle and chitin throbbing absurdly, offensively around them. An alien heartbeat trembled through the metal. He touched the nearest bulkhead with his palm, gently patting it, as he once comforted his horse after she fell. A Mare of no lesser nobility than this ship, Sovereign had recovered, but this steed was dead. He looked at Teralil and Sabaan. Maybe these scions of Mars could coax the ship to make one, final charge. The old warhorse deserved that. The moment passed as the memory of battle, where shipmates and Astartes fought together, was consigned to history in the dark corners of his mind and the vessel's old iron bones. ++ We will traverse that geshru when we come to it, My Kin. For now, we have a wyrm to slay. ++ His jaw clenched. Then there would be answers - the enigma of the Dark Lantern required...illumination. His smile was bitter. MR. A.T.
Atratus perched above the rent in the ships hull, last to enter as he watched for a fresh wave of xenos. All things considering the incursion had gone well so far but there was no taking of trophies or speculation of intent as there had been before, they had left this vessel to begin a war and now they returned to end it. Recalling there first battle here he opened his helmets vox frequencies, listening for the same vox distortions that had accompanied both their initial assault and, ultimately, the last words of this vessel. Noctus Cornix
He stood near the entrance of that great maw while his comrades pushed inside. Crimson eye lenses scanned along what could be made for a 'horizon', wary that he would see a second wave and breathing the smallest sigh of relief when he didn't. Mariana still weighed loosely in his grip, the blade still stinking in viscous ichor. The blade had no power field, but a simple press of concentration wreathed the blade in licking flames. The ichor hissed and bubbled away, leaving the sword clean once more before resting it to the mag-lock at his belt. ++I don't think this will come as a surprise to anyone, but we must not tarry for long, lest another host of the unclean things come for us..++ As the vox clicked silent, the Codicier scanned across the gathered Astartes as they each check their weapons and equipment in kind. His gaze fell up Yeng, who was occupied with attending to the the wounded Varvost. ++How does he look?++ the Crimson Fist asked as he approached the apothecary, kneeling at the Gate Breaker's side to scan over the Eradicator. ++Will he be fit for combat?++ Edited July 17, 2020 by Noctus Cornix Commissar Molotov, Slips, Mazer Rackham and 2 others 5 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344357-dw-blackthornswordhand-episode-iii-the-sundered-house/page/75/#findComment-5560863 Share on other sites
apologist
Yeng braced his hand against his knee as he drew himself up, with a sigh. His habitual slight stoop put him at eye level with Montesa, and he looked at the Crimson Fist with a straightforward expression. The soupy, spore-laden atmosphere gave the interior of the stricken vessel a dreamlike, unreal quality. The Eradicator might conceivably lend fire support; but in his current condition, he was equally likely to prove a burden on the team. "Such things are in the lap of Divine Princes, Montesa. Through keen wit and clarity of Crimson Knight – and the tepid, unworthy efforts of my hands – he is stable. If roused, he might point a boltgun, but Yamatarian alone knows if he will strike anything." He half-shrugged, his plate clattering. "Albikus or I can stir him with stimms if called upon." Oto Yeng's implied query held no reproach. Gatebreakers were not, as a rule, sentimental; and Yeng was no exception. Astartes were born to fight. That their superhuman qualities resigned them to death in combat was all but a condition of their creation. After a short pause, the apothecary went on, addressing the whole group. "The Warrior-poet Samothrace is credited with saying his death-lay would be his greatest triumph. He fell, at last, on a heap of his enemies, gurgling through a blown-out throat." Yeng paused. "Some last words," he continued "but who is to say what sound sweeter to Emperor? Clever words, or froth and defiance?" Morovir
Teralil grimaced inside his helmet. The acidic atmosphere had taken a heavy toll on his wargear, and had stymied his attempts to resolve the issues during the firefight - a lapse that may yet cost them a brother. He finally cleared the jam that had rendered his bolter obsolete for much of the combat, before turning back to face the others. ++We must press forward. Xin Ceithan
The Voice of Thunder. How... extraordinary... As the killteam made their way inside, Sabaan took a moment to place the palm of his bionic left the metal wall of the cavelike opening the Deathwatch had reached. The rigid plating was reassuringly solid and pleasantly inorganic. Inside the hull, the vile cacaphony of the xenos monstrosity was dimmed. The harsh sounds of Astartes wargear returned, their echoes now cleaner, less muffeled by organic... vapors, fluids, fiber. The thump of ceramite boots. Vambraces brushed along the plating. The buzz of active power armour revebrating in the walls. Sabaan send two pings out from his internal Augur. No immediate active Hostile. Feeling the metal of the hull sing in response through his Hand, the Technarine closed his organic eye and allowed himself a luxurios 13,598 nanoseconds of calm. The warship‘s hull croaned, straining under the peristaltic pressure like the mourning wails of some marine leviathan. No, it was not wailing, the Iron Hand realized as he felt the next jolt. Defiance. When they had first faced the wreck of the Voice of Thunder, Sabaan had felt his anger spike once more. Witnessing the remains of the proud vessel thus, defaced, defiled, as the xenosbeast around them laboured to disgest it... Sabaan would have projected the probability of further escalating the general rate of revulsion regarding their current area of operations very low at this time. Inside the bowels of an extragalactic megaform that was an insult to the Great Maker all by itself , they had been literally wading through acidic blasphemy at this point, all kneedeep and discomfortingly warm. Fighting the urge to lash out and tear the xenos thing apart from the inside in some sort of berserk rage had accompanied the Techmarine since they had emerged from the boarding torpedo. This time, It took a recital of three full verses of the Iron Creed regarding the importance of ammunition preservation and a substantial dose of Hyperlithiumacetates to keep him from emptying his Boltgun into their surroundings. The Iron Hand had thus relished the opportunity vent his anger in a controlled fashion when the swarm had ambushed them outside, eager to punish the xenos regardless of the form available. As usual, the Omnissiah had provided.... That thought had remained with him, echoing around his thoughtstream as they fought their way up the mountainous slope of the warship's outer hull. Now, once more surrounded by the glory of His works, the calming touch of proceeded metals, beneath his hand. The Omnissiah provides... The Voice of Thunder. Had it really just been the only vessel available in such short notice? To be destroyed shielding the Deathwatch, just to allow the Killteam to reach it's destination? No native of Medusa believed in mere happenstance. Nycax Sabaan was not only a scorn of that dark, stormy world but had been initiated by the priest of the Machine God and his Great Work. He felt the hiss click of his respirator pick up a fraction of a second as the Iron Hand felt a sudden insight at the sheer magnitude of the Great Work. The Voice of Thunder. It had been chosen, literally, as a vessel of divine intervention. Not only had it sacrificed itself to ensure their passage. No, it had always been intended to face the voidforms, to be devoured by the Hive Ship. To remain a thorn it it's side. To provide shelter to the chosen of the Omnissiah, the Emperor on their mission who would have to traverse the innards of this loathsome invader to His divine dominion. To be the vessel of his divine retribution. The Voice of Thunder had not fallen prey to the Xenos. It had sacrificed itself to the Great Work. Thus, it was not wailing in despair. It was still proclaiming it's defiance and it's faith in the Great Maker as it prepared for it's last and ultimate duty. It had never been a victim of war. It had always been fated to serve as a martyr. Sabaan felt humbled as he tried to conceptualize the mind, the sheer processing power, capable of developing a Calculus of this magnitude. He could almost feel a fragrance of that force ghosting through the his electrograft inlays. He reached out for it, sensing, probing, trying to connect to the fragments of the machine spirits still aboard, awaiting to join the killteam to fulfill their part of the Great Design. There...Almost... there..
