With the boost to Dreads generally, I think there might be mileage in these boys. Since they have negligible firepower. Maybe reserving them T1 and only coming on T2 or even T3 when most of the heavy hitters have been whittled down or at least deployed in a known location.

I guess whether the VenDread is better depends on whether you want firepower. A MM VenDread is a pretty good all rounder but the DC Dread does have certain blender potential.

I think the DC Dread is a fantastic "bouncer" unit that can pounce in counter-charge type situations. S10 AP-2 D:3 re-rolling To Wound is a fantastic all-purpose melee profile.

Is Refusal to Die working on DCD ? I was reading the supplement and it only need Death Company keyword so if it works you can give 8W dread +5 FNP making him so much more tanky.

I love my DC dread, but find I so rarely play him any more.   My issue in 8th was a lack of opponents with tasty vehicles to use my magna-grapple for the extra 2" charge.  (sad that's gone...)

My favourite tactic was dropping him a drop pod and having him land right beside my DC unit deepstriking in with Lemartes to get the re-roll on the charge.

Strat just says “Death Company unit” so my take is that you can use it on him

Welcome to part one of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series!

Following the release of the 9th edition Supplement, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will focus on the unique BA units and part two will focus on BA units that are new to this edition of the Codex, part three will discuss how to get the best use the generic units from the past that are still with us (and that many of us have in our armies still), and part four will discuss the Legends units that we still own and love. Finally, part five will be dedicated to the reinforcements from Forge World.

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use your DCD?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the Chapter Approved changes affect your list(s)?
  • What wargear choices are you favouring?
  • Transport choices?
  • How are you buffing this unit? Will it babysit anything?
  • Stratagem synergy of note?

Over to you.

(Please note that any other pattern of Dreadnought will be discussed elsewhere)

Another update, again for the post-Nephilim world. Has yours taken to the battlefield yet?

I have not tried him yet but a few thoughts spring to mind. AoC does not benefit this guy more than any of our other options but being Death Company means we have another unit to leverage the Fury of the Lost secondary. I don't know if this secondary is worth building a list around though.
