Panzer
Does wargear have any effect? Ie is a jump pack useless for all intents and purposes? Jump packs give a +1 to initiative rolls to see who goes first. If one model has 2 different CC weapons, the attacks will be split evenly between both or at user's discretion upon submitting entry. The FightAll normal 40k rules apply. Contestants start 18" from each other. To see who goes first a D6 and added the characters Initiative. The model going first will get to move, shoot and assault. The model being assaulted can overwatch as normal. However if assault fails the model that overwatched can't shoot on his shooting phase. Combats will be resolved just as a normal 40K combat until one model is left with 0 wounds. Indefragable
Captain Zedrenael, Lord of Skyfall Captain of the Blood Angels 8th Company Cost: 129pts for tabletop +15 for 1st re-roll +15 for 2nd re-roll =159pts total for Blood and Zeal Wargear: Power Armor Weapon: Thunder Hammer, Desert's Tear Wargear: Storm Shield, Promise Wargear: Jump Pack Left pauldron: Deathwatch shoulder pad Eligible re-rolls: 3 re-rolls: Painted during ELT VI: 1 Purchased: 1 Purchased: 1 =3 total for Feast of Blades 2018 ***This is my Captain Zedrenael as opposed to any official background on him*** Hidden Content *** It was the rad scorpion. If not for that damnable beast Zedrenael would never have ascended to the ranks of the Adeptus Astartes. The tribe had formed a retribution party. Too many youths and elders pulled from their beds. Fences failed. Sentries, or what would have remained of them, were never found. Setting camp at high places or in rocky defensible points did not prevent the abductions either. The only way to survive, it was determined, was to make the hunter the hunted and track the beast to its layer and slay it. Fully two thirds of the able bodied men--at least, by Baal's standards--and several of the fiercest women gathered what weapons and blasting charges they could and set off across the desert wastes. "If a single Angel had been with us, we would have all come back." The old man's words buried into Zedrenael's young skull. The screams of the poisoned echoed in the confines of the rad scorpion's cave as they dissolved from the inside out. One of the others shuffled over to a convulsing body and slit its throat to end the agony. Tears ran down the mercy killer's face wasting precious moisture. Those of the party left with both bodies and wits still whole frantically soaked up the spilled blood with soaking cloths. Few had ever seen this much moisture in a single place in their lives and such sustaining liquid had to be recovered at all costs. At all costs. The party had come to end the threat of the rad scorpion at all costs and now barely a third of them would return at all, with a depressingly smaller number who would be fully capable of supporting the tribe upon return. Zedrenael looked down on his hands where his own blood mingled with that of his tribesmen and the horror that had claimed them. "A single Angel," the old man muttered again, as if to curse the universe. "And none of us would have died." Who were these Angels the old man spoke of? How could just one of them do what nearly his entire tribe died attempting to do? And if they were that powerful, how could they forsake the tribes of Baal? How could they allow such senseless slaughter? Why would they not help? Zedrenael's eyes moved over the carnage, lingering on the sight of each kinsmen's mutliated corpse before finally pausing on the dead beast in the center of the cave. His eyes narrowed and his fingers closed tight into his palms until fresh blood leaked anew through his fingers. He grabbed his spear and one of the hemovials containing the recovered blood of his kin. He would not return to camp. He would never return. Not until he had seen one of these Angels. And killed it. *** Two hundred and fifty years later Zedrenael would be given command of the 8th Company of the Blood Angels Chapter of Adeptes Astartes. Another fifty as commander would bring him to this moment in time. The office of Captain in a Space Marine chapter affords its occupant many martial luxuries, a personal armorium one of the foremost. Weapons, wargear, and artifacts collected, used, and recovered from all his brothers that had held this same office as he. Zedrenael selected the thunder hammer "Desert's Tear." Though he preferred a bladed weapons, the significance of this hammer was too much to ignore. For practical purposes it afforded him greater punch when dealing with heavier enemies that his men would not have the experience or equipment to deal with. But more importantly, it served to remind his troops of their purpose. Commanding the 8th company was never a prized assignment. Leading the reserve Assault Marines provided a unique set of challenges. For one thing, as a reserve company it was filled with those who had trouble integrating into the line companies. Secondly, unlike other chapters who started marines freshly ascended from the Scout ranks in Devastator squads, the Blood Angels assigned theirs to Assault squads. This was done to allow the new marines a chance to close with the enemy and get some of their bloodlust out, for the geneseed of all sons of Sanguinius burns hot with a desire to kill the enemy with one's own hands. It also gave commanders an opportunity to observe which ascendees could ride the waves of bloodlust when advantageous and when to calm themselves when cooler heads were needed. Without proper guidance and mentorship, all Blood Angels could eventually give in to their geneseed's murderous urges and be lost forever. Younger Blood Angels were especially vulnerable. And so the Captain of the 8th had to walk a fine line. Too aggressive and the hot-blooded youths would be even more prone to irrecoverable assaults. Too cautious, and the hungry marines would chafe and grow ill-disciplined liked chained canem on a hunt. Previous Captains of the 8th had leaned in one direction or the other. Zedrenael's method had evolved into two techniques: For one, he made sure that each squad was equipped with purposeful weapons: inferno pistols, plasma pistols, or the larger gun versions of each. This ensured that each unit was capable of dealing with enemy armor or large creatures. Being entrusted with such weapons helped to focus the young marines. Thepride of successfully maneuvering and killing an enemy tank with a disciplined shot was sometimes just the sort of motivation that helped stave off the urge for wanton chainsword action. But above all else, Zedrenel made sure to be visible. He made sure his assault marines could see him. Could see when he gave in and when he held back. It was why he continued to wear the left pauldron he earned from a tour in the Deathwatch. "Sometimes," he hoped it said to them, "sometimes other ways are possible." It was why he wielded Desert's Tear in all its symbolic glory despite being more skilled with other weapons. It was why he wielded Promise. He had crafted the storm shield Promise himself. Working with the artisans and armorers had given pause to his own thirst for killing; stabilized him. But it also needed to be done. He needed to show his men why they fought. How from the red-clad servants did the winged blood descend into the chalice. How their service would go on to sustain and fuel the efforts of their brothers. For only in this sacrifice could they guard their home. Only then could they protect their true tribe, the one that had spread throughout the stars. "We are the shield that guards the worlds of man..." "...And never has that lesson been more important," Zedrenael thought, picking up his weapons. Commander Dante was calling it "Shield of Baal." More than ever his men would need to know his Promise. He would not return to this armorium. He would never return. Not until he had seen all the horrors that threatened mankind. And killed them. Xenith
++ Baal, Arx Angellicum, 42,018++ Diabocca grunted a subvocal command to his vox pick up that crackled into life. "My Lord, they are here...". The shadowy figure lingered in the deepest darkness of the antechamber as the contestants gathered with their entourages, invisible to all, save for the occasional glint of reflected torchlight on his polished deathmask, the rasping of metallic feathers reacting to his micro movements the only sound he made. He studied their movements, reading each warrior as they interacted. Some with swagger, more reserved. He saw the gene-wrought features of his father in each of their faces, each expressed in different ways. Some, the noble features of Azkellon, others had mouths seemingly twisted in perpetual snarls echoing that savage Seth, scion of Amit. It was not long since they had been on Baal at the defence. They had been there when the bloodline of Sanguinius was almost extinguished, and they had been there at the triumph. Now, one hundred years later, they returned for glory, and to reignite their sense of kinship. Diaboccia looked at the Champions in front of him, counting the Adeptus Primaris that made up their number, reflecting on the dwindling numbers of Adeptus Astartes that remained. Like it or not, they were the future. Guilliman's Future. Diabocca reopened the vox channel: "...and they look taller than the last lot" His remark was met with a throaty chortle, and the channel clicked into silence... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Two spots left folks. Are any of the accursed ETL oath breakers part of the Feast and have not finished their champion yet? Git 'er done! All entrants that have completed their vows, please can you upload a photo of your completed, painted champion into the original entry post (linked in the OP) so I can start preparing their avatars for the bracket table. In the meantime, Curios, Silas, please feel free to enter a model - I'll add them to the reserve list as long as it's vowed and painted as part of Rage to Salvation (Coming soon, I think?). The final entrants to the feat will be confirmed in the wake of the paint fest. In the meantime, as the contestants size one another up in the antechamber, feel free to trash talk. Cheers! Dont-Be-Haten
It had been a century since Calen last stood upon the home world of the Winged Father. His chapter had done so begrudgingly, though he was one of the youth that voted for the chapter to send aid to the summons of Dante. He was but a sergeant then, and so much had changed in the years that followed the horrors witnessed on Baal. So few of his brothers still lived; many like Calen himself did not compromise the ideals or savagery that Haldroth once held dear. In one sense it was a double edged sword. The Priests were gaining a stronger hold over the excess of violence amongst those of Haldroth's womb. The many Primaris Marines that bolstered their forces were from Baal. A time before the madness of the present. Some assimilated, some distanced themselves, it was a thin line walked by many. Though over the past years, the battle brothers had bonded, and the light that shown through was one of harmony and fraternity. Both Primaris and the originals were still in production on Haldroth, and her surrounding moons. Still the price paid was dire. There was a need of soldiers, and the production of both fitted Haldroth, for the time being. These were the thoughts of the Third Captain. He was handsome in his features, his crown was covered with the brightest of blonde strands of hair. His eyes were that same cerulean gray as his Reclusiarch, a possible mutation from the gene seed. Calen's face was a wash of pale complexion, filled with the stature of heroes. That same fierce rage held at bay that earned him the name "Blood Hammer" left an aura of awe and greatness with each step he took forward. His entourage consisted of five battle brothers. These were Calen's inner circle. Each was a partial piece to his War council that also came from his home world, Morandus. First was his company champion Uriel, a fierce warrior, who wielded the sword Foebane. His loyalty to his chapter and to that of his captain was renowned. He was bitter only in the sense that Hazriel denied him the chance at glory against his fellow blood line. This was due in part to some mysterious objective Hazriel had given to his captain, for it must be Calen to complete this task. The next two that came out were veterans from the Shield of Baal as well. Arus and Seraphim, both were just as fierce warriors as Uriel. Each made the stand upon the walls of Baal defending Calen as he raised 'Gravus' in what they thought to be their last battle. The horrors that spilled forth from the endless tides of the Leviathan menace, brought anxious memories back. Though they never showed such emotions, these were merely thoughts held privately. Behind them came Favian, Calen's banner bearer. Though he did not fly the colors of the Third Company, he was its guardian and a part of Calen's war council. His demeanor showed he had seen thousands of battles. The studs in his forehead proved he may very well be the oldest of this group, and a paramount asset to Calen's tactical decisions. Finally came Queran, the Sanguinary Priest and confidant to Calen. His was the spiritual guidance for ceremony and ritual that so many of the other chapters held in the highest regard. He showed the wherewithal to preach the teachings of Baal, and was instrumental in keeping the Rites of Blood. He was born on Haldroth and remembered the tasks of bringing grips to the savagery and barbarism once showed by the Swords of Haldroth. Calen felt the nostalgia creep into his thoughts, as whispers from Battle-Brothers and menials of other chapters alike had heard tales of "The Blood Hammer" and his deeds. -Why did you ask me my lord?- thought Calen to himself. He knew the reason was to show continued fraternity, honor, and the like to both the line of Sanguinius and to the Carmine Blades, but it still tugged at his mind. He would rather be where he was needed in the war efforts, it just so happened that fate had brought him back to the home of the Winged Father. As each of his men moved into place he saw the colors and banners of his lineage were already accommodated or were arriving just as he had. Spyros
The avatar image and the white helmets point to the Carmine Blades. "The Carmine Blades were not recognised as successors of the Blood Angels until late M41. Indeed, the Chapter were originally named the Swords of Haldroth after their feral recruiting world. They had long suffered from what they called the blood-curse, but had hidden their Flaw from prying eyes for fear of Inquisitorial sanction. Officially they were recorded as successors of the Ultramarines. It is unclear whether this came about as a result of an error within the Administratum, or an intentional ruse put in place by the Chapter’s leaders in ages past. Whatever the truth, the Chapter’s real heritage was revealed when High Chaplain Astorath was drawn instinctively to where the ‘cursed brothers’ were interred. On that day the fate of the Chapter was irrevocably changed, their true identity revealed to all.Renamed the Carmine Blades, these successors have accepted the Blood Angels’ traditions only grudgingly. Their newly formed order of Sanguinary Priests still struggles to curb the worst excesses of the Chapter’s inherited warrior culture. Ritual scarification and the flaying of captured foes are still widespread problems. Still, the Carmine Blades have proved resilient and resourceful successors."
