Hello,

I would like to share with you my side project.
Someone know, that I am working on Ultramarines 4th Battle Company and this one is my side project as a rest from Space Marine painting.

Please find some Astra Militarum minis. I just started them, so I don't have much to share.

I have started from regular Cadian Shock Troops as my first Astra Militarum / IG mini.

I used airbrush form basecoat of Vallejo Colour Air Radome Tan. Green was applied using brush and Vallejo Model Air German Green. Flesh applied using GW Cadian Fleshtone. Metal parts were painted with Vallejo Air Gunmetal.

Later. Model was fully washed with GW Devlan Mud wash. It looks like a little bit dirty :-)

After wash was dried, basecoat was applied again using same colours as before. I think full wash and base colour restore are faster, than apply shade only in darker places.

Highlights were applied when base colour was restored. Armor was highlighted with GW Warboss Green. Fatigues were highlighted with Vallejo Air Sand (Ivory). For metal parts I used Vallejo Air Silver. Imperial symbols were painted with Vallejo Air USA Grey and later with regular White colour.

This model took me 1 evening to paint it. I think it is prety good result for 1 evening painting and army where body count exceed ammo count in enemy army...

At present moment I see several issues.

1. Decals applied prety bad. I know how to fix it.

2. It is a little bit dirty...

3. Need to try optimize process more!!!! I have tried to prepare 3 minis in 1 evening.

I preprared next 3 models using same aproach as before.

And again. Minis were fully washed. Difference, I used other wash. Now it was GW Ogryn Fleshtone for fatigues and Devlan Mud for armor.

Later base colour were restored using same colour as before (Radome Tan / German Green / Cadia Fleshtone). Also, I swith my focus only to Sergeant mini and not to all 3 minis

And here is my current state. I think wash change was great decision. Mini looks less dirty and shade looks more in place than with Devlan Mud. Next steps will be prepare all Imperial Symbols, metal parts and face.

And again, all was done during 1 evening. In case if I started ONLY from sergeant, I think he probably will be finished already. So still, 1 mini in 1 evening. I hope that I will be able to keep this result and prepare 1 mini in 1 evening paint cycle.

These are looking great.

I would suggest rather than applying the Devlan Mud straight from the pot or watered down to mix Lahmian Medium with it (about 50:50).

You will find that you will have less work to do re-base coating and this should save you a lot of time. I would also recommend Seraphim Sepia rather than Devlan Mud for the fatigues but then again Devlan Mud works all over as it shades the armour too.

Edit: DOH! Didn't read second post - yes Flesh tone looks a lot better. :)

Continue my work with Sergeant. Armor highlights were applied. Base colour on chainsword was applied. Face and arms are finished.

Face was painted using following paints:

Base colour: GW Cadia Fleshtone

Wash: GW Ogryn Fleshtone wash

Highlights: GW Dwarf Flesh and Vallejo Elfic Flesh

First of all base colour was applied. Later face and arms were washed. Base colour was restored using Cadia Fleshtone. Thined Dwarf Flesh was applied as a highlights. Edges were highlighted with Elfic Flesh.

That Sargent is looking really good. Will you be using a similar colour scheme for the tanks?

Hello,

Yes, I plan use same colour scheme for tanks. It will be 2 colored camo (Radome Tan + German Green).

At present moment here is my Q:

* First Guardsmens (2/14) - I want to test and find the best colour scheme + test speed painting (~1 guardsmen in 1 evening)

* Officio Prefectus Commissar (https://www.games-workshop.com/en-IE/Officio-Prefectus-Commissar)

* Leman Russ Battle Tank (I plan to fully magnitize it)

Q can be changed based on my mood :-)

  • 6 months later...

I finaly got time to paint some 40k miniatures instead of Malifaux :-)

I woul like to share another 10 guardsmans. This work took me about 1 month (I paint only on evenings about 1-2 hours in day).

Feel free to leave feedback
