Should Deathwatch vehicles be modelled with Chapter icons?

Hi everyone,

Just started my Deathwatch army with the Start Collecting box and have added a couple Razorbacks. Seeing how the infantry show their chapters on the right shoulder, should any of the vehicles show chapters as well? (FW Rhino doors/front plate) I only ever see people model them with Inquisition stuff.

Any advice from the fluff gurus is appreciated.

I personally do with the forge world inquisition set, we have allot of dark block colours in our army, a Microsoft colour helps break that up.

Chapter wise though the deathwatch have their our vehicals so no chapter markings would be shown and would just be deathwatch which is ordo xenos.

The Deathwatch has it's own armoury, and doesn't borrow it from other Chapters, so they should feature Deathwatch iconography

Cheers,

Jono

Thanks for the reponses

Incidentally, I'm of the opinion (and, long-term, the plan to include in my force) that DW would get some specialist items from further afield than its own armouries.

Or rather, they might hoover-up artefacts as time goes by.

So 'specific' Imperial vehicles like the Dark Angels' Nephilim Jetfighters, or the Space Wolves' Stormfang Gunships, that sort of thing, would naturally be 'available' to Deathwatch forces. Whilst some (many) will be Deathwatch-produced (and therefore absent the originator chapter icons), some others might still have only recently been repurposed and so 'respect to the Machine Spirit' decisions may still be enforced.

Which is to say: sometimes.

It's not necesarily the case, and I fully support using the Inquisitor iconography, overall, but I cans see cases where original heraldry would still be there. :smile.:

I'd agree it's not a rule either way.... to include or not include icons.

But I know personally I think of some of my vehicle drivers as experts. Maybe they know how to best maneuver around an Ork mine field (IE: avoid giant bombs in a field... okay bad example). Or maybe avoid detection by heinous Eldar tech. I'd like to think this driver of let's say that particular Razorback is just very familiar with it, perhaps even modded it to some degree. I think it's a cool touch. I wouldn't do it to all of my vehicles but I know I put some minor Dark angel Ravenwing decals on my Blackstar... it just felt right. (And yes I know that is a DW specific example, but they pilot is just that darn good.)

That's just conjured up an idea/observation - the lack of Deathwatch Techmarines.

It's been remarked in a few places that the drivers of Marine vehicles are junior techmarines of the armoury. Perhaps not apprenticed at Mars, but supernumerary to the formal Chapter order of battle.

So are all Deathwatch vehicles piloted by a variety of Techmarines who're seconded to Deathwatch? Is that wheeler they went? :D

(I'd love to see some fun/varied rules to reflect that, with a base for non-Techmarine drivers too.)

"That overwhelmingly battered Rhino is very literally being held together by the Techmarine driver and their servoharness... and being repaired at the same time!"
