Wargamer
Now that Venerable Dreads effectively don't get a Chapter Tactic (thanks, GW!), will any IH players reconsider taking them? Iron Father Ferrum
I'll probably still take mine. They're still good for the improved BS/WS, which is especially useful on the move since it moves them from 2+ to 3+ rather than 3+ to 4+. WarriorFish
I take them because I love Dreads and that 2+ is tasty - the loss of the extra durability is disappointing but isn't going to change my plans Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346302-iron-hands-venerable-dreadnought-will-you-reconsider/#findComment-5057854 Share on other sites
Tyr13
I wasnt using any anyway, so it doesnt really affect me... though my relic contemptors are a bit annoyed. Bellarius
They still have their uses to be sure thanks to their improved stats. Furthermore, while the Redemptor might be the chapter's new big gun and major centerpiece, there is something to be said for their more ornate designs. RandomMarine
Yeah this has killed my list I was cheesing with the red scorpion keyword to get 3 layers of 6+++ using Culln. I'll stick to redemptors + Culln now . I kinda wish they made each layer of fnp buff the first instead of just getting rid of it. Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
I haven’t been using venerable dreadnoughts, but it’s made my chapter master a fair bit less survivable. I ran the tenacious survivor trait (+1wound, an additional 6+), to represent our unwillingness to die, as all proper sons of Ferrus should be. Now I have to rethink that. Sure, +1 wound is nice, but without that extra 6+ I feel like he may be better served with Imperium’s sword now. Until then, Shogun Kamakura may not be seeing the table for a while. I think I will be dropping a number of Redemptors during the next year, though, even if they’re the ETB ones. Cheap dreads with lots of firepower; what’s not to like, and pretty hardy. I hope GW reverses the FNP stack rule, or makes it more favorable to us. WarriorFish
I've always been fond of Tenacious Survivor too, I agree it's probably better to pick something else now. My Venerable missed his extra save over the weekend, but it likely wouldn't have made much difference in the end. yergerjo
We need to be sure to email blast GW about this. Perhaps we will get a final version which becomes like a FNP (stacking) bonus for each iteration, hopefully they would cap it at a 5+++ otherwise we could see a 4+++ Mortarion...(Disgustingly Resilient+Warlord Trait) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346302-iron-hands-venerable-dreadnought-will-you-reconsider/#findComment-5066750 Share on other sites

zero88
Now that Venerable Dreads, while still good, don't benefit from IH tactics, would you take a Contemptor or Ironclad Dreadnought? My gut says the Contemptor is superior, but the cool factor of Ironclads is almost too much to pass up on! WarriorFish
Contemptor is generally better I'd agree, that 2+ to hit is great and has saved the day enough times for me. The Ironclad is solid though and will do good work for you, but I've found tends to attract a lot of attention even in Dread heavy lists so you might not get the most out of it. Still good for cool factor of course ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346302-iron-hands-venerable-dreadnought-will-you-reconsider/#findComment-5120046 Share on other sites
