Erik looks good.

Like the colour you've chosen for your army. I think it will go well with the Chapter badge.

Thanks man, I need some more practice at blanding to get it right I think.

So the chapter badge is the two headed wolf on a wgite shoulder pad right? What about the other pad?

That’s the one. I haven’t found anywhere with the transfers yet so I am just doing a white pad and an black shape that’s as close to the marking as I cAn get. But as it’s the Space Wolves, you could make your own badge.

The other pad will be the pack markings. IE yellow and black, red and black, black and white, yellow and red etc.

So that 10 man unit of grey hunters will be one pack with the same marking on each. Another unit will have a different pack marking. Same for each class of trooper

Gotcha, thank you for clarifying. I've seen some models with the symbol but I'm not sure if it was a transfer or not. If it was the person that did them is VERY consistent with it

I'm entering the ETL this year, so I've built the first 5 grey hunters. I'm not 100% happy with the plasma gunner as he's pretty boring? He doesn't have a lot going on in comparision to the rest of the squad. Maurauders are great for Viking-y bits especially some nice looking axes. C&C welcome for these guys

I think the plasma guy is fine also, however if you wanted to make it look more active the kegs from the assault marine box do a good job of getting guys in motion.

Thanks guys! Thematically I prefer slow advancing legs for grey hunters because they're the old boys that know theres a time and a place from running in. For blood claws they'll definitely have sprinting leg mixed in (whenever I get to building blood claws)

I got another test marine done. It's not perfect and needs some touching up  like the elbow highlights and also I'm not great at painting straight lines as it turns out but it's looking pretty good so far. The blend that I did on the top areas of the panels looks pretty good in person but I'm not sure you can see it in the pictures. C&C welcome

MOdel looks good, the blends work well and I especially like the runes.

I'd dilute te paint for the edge highlights, so the highlight stays, but it is not too stark as it appears in the picture

Thanks man, I think I need to. I've just finished the first Grey Hunter and I really do need to tone down the highlight a bit.

I feel like the blending was better this time around, it's only a shame that it's pretty much all under runes, detailing etc. It's still mostly in WIP with some details to finshed off and some mistakes to change i.e the kneepad stripe and finish off the dead head (I feel like I should call it Mimir or just Head)

Really nice stuff, 100* behind the colour scheme too

Thanks man! The more I paint the scheme the more I like it, I'm getting used to making a glaze more even. I've toned down the highlights a lot more now. Still some stuff to do, finish and tidy up. C&C very welcome as usual.

These are coming along nicely. The grey does go well with the white.

You got a good theme running through. The chains, shields, furs and axes. It look good and in a Viking way too.

Thanks dude! I think I'm starting to get into the swing of painting grey and the runes, hopefully I can pick up the pace a little bit now.

In my steps of painting these, I do a couple of layers of 75:25 lahmian medium:dawnstone to try to get a bit of blend on the top of armour panels. The problem that I'm having is that because there's a lot of detail and stuff going on, on the Space Wolves models you can't really see the blending. Is there much point in including this step, as its only really visible on the backpack and helmet?

You could cut it down to the backpack and helmet only. Or leave it for the characters. Or leave it off all together. Try one without. The whole hobby is a balancing act between ambition, ability and staying interested.

Table top quality is a factor. Most of the time the models will be seen at arms reach. An exaggerated highlight can work in your favour in this instance.

I'm a terrible one for short cuts myself. I basically short cut the layer step out entirely.

I can just about see it on the most recent one so I think I'm just going to leave it to helmets, backpacks and characters like you suggested.

Next one started, nearly done quite a lot to tidy up

The model looks great!

Thanks man!

Paint work looks great. Only observation would be to drill your barrels. Other than that, good solid work. And your painting of pack markings makes me most envious.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

GM

I will definitely drill the barrels but when the whole squad is finished I think. I've never actually drilled barrels before but I'm taking my time with these guys.

I definitely think the more of these guys I do, the better I get at this technique. My highlighting is getting smoother and thinner and the triangles are getting better.

C&C on the newest guy is always appreciated.

Got the plasma gunner done, world's slowest painter is on the case. I'll hopefully get the last one done tomorrow. C&C very welcome
