Codex: DW next week

Based on the comments I would say if you go pure DW then run vets for versatility, the point drop helps. If you are running them as allies, then I would go primaris for their single purpose abilities. Depending on the upcoming strategems would determine if you would go watch captain or master. But just my opinion from reading every comment and speculations.

Just to be the voice of reason, the codex writer doesn't need to be an expert in the game necessarily to design something cool/fun/effective.  It really all comes down to how the army factors into the current rule set and environment.  Therefore, if the codex is good/bad/okay it'll be more due to the factors of the other preexisting armies than anything one writer did.  Also, to judge the effectiveness of the codex based on a single demonstration game played with a smorgasbord army is rather daft, putting it lightly.

Indeed, agreed on every point - I was only kidding :D

Well unfortunately all we got for the streamed game was a showcase of why DW was/is terrible in the hands of a novice.  More so than most armies out there you have to be on point with knowing what to do and when to do it with DW.  Wish they could have found someone who actually plays the army to showcase it but eh c'est la vie.

I know, I know... it just would have been encouraging to see them used to their upmost. He sounded like he was having fun after a long week (and maybe a pint or two or three)... ;)

Time will tell how it turns out.

About that game, just geez, it looked like the nids still had their entire army in play.

I'm very disappointed nothing about the existing rules were looked at, but my pre-release opinion is that we are out of trash tier and firmly in below average tier now.

We're at least probably better off than GK.

I’m not entirely sure.

While I don’t think it equates to a bad Codex, that game was very disappointed. For the rules writer he had the knowledge and skill level below some very rough Youtubers.

I can’t take anything from that game. It was a miss mash of various, discombobulated units. There was no strategy, and he struggled to remember even very basic rules which caught me off guard. I almost felt like his opponent was making excuses for him while he struggled through the game.

The Nids did not come to the table with anything I’d consider top tier, yet they had really lost alarmingly little by the mid point.

All I could possibly garner from the game is ... Termies as a unit still don’t seem to work too well, and it’s still very easy to overdo toys and suffer for it. This is 8 th, chaff still has a massive impact in 40k.

Still I take nothing bad from the codex from that game... I just got nothing from it ( and was a little taken back by the codex writers lack of,..understanding)

He was bad, forgot to use SIA, came to conclusion that perhaps he should've brought his frag cannons mid-game and I got rather dehyped. If this was a stream that was supposed to get me excited for the new release then he was as incompetent at advertising as he was at playing, especially since most of the time he was speaking of Space Wolves rather than DW. If the person that wrote the codex doesn't know how to play it then I don't think he did a good job.

It was a terrible battle report and sounded so ill prepared that he slammed a list together from studio models at the last minute. And forgot the frag cannon, our most iconic and powerful weapon. It wasn't until his opponent asked if he was using any command points that we saw any strategems. And very little information on the contents of the Codex.

I'll confess, I'm worried now. :/

Those are actually reasons not to be worried, though

I asked in the chat and they said he was a former rules writer who now works at White Dwarf.

So was that before or after the Deathwatch codex was written

... but seriously, everybody has off days.  I'm usually pretty good with rules but some days I just blank.

I really hope this is pricing error because I see something really garbage here. Unlike DA/BA boxes, that had Intercessors bundled with new Primaris upgrade sprue for pennies, DW boxes with two year old upgrade sprue have full price of sprue slapped on top of bundle. The very same sprue that was free with all DW kits 2 years ago!

Thankfully I still have like 5 of them so I don't care, but I already can see people skipping on DW bundle and just buying regular Intercessors, and GW going "DW doesn't sell"...

Also, CE cover outrage starting in 3... 2... 1... :whistling:
