Anticipation For Rules: Index Talons Of The Emperor

Recommended Posts

GW taking it over is probably more of a negative in terms of waiting. They'll slot it into their release schedule, and knowing they plan stuff out over a year in advance means we probably won't see this book for a further 12 months...

True...but if the choice is between waiting for it in the normal release schedule and no one working on it at all I'd rather wait a year. :-/

So I can't see GW "taking it over", they haven't, nor will they ever write rules for FW models.

I'd imagine its another one of these projects that has been put on the back burner as resources have been allocated to Specialist Games etc

I'm inclined to agree...

Whilst I also am inclined to agree, I don’t think it’s as remote a possibility as you might think.

We know that Custodes sold extremely well and I think it’s a pretty safe bet that this book would sell well enough to make a profit. I don’t think they’d refuse to do it just on the grounds that they never write rules for FW. There’s even some slight precedent with the last CA which was written but GW but included FW changes.

I would simply pitch in to say that there are examples of GW writing or modifying rules for FW items, even if unusual.  I found out just this past weekend playing against DE that Reapers (alternate version of Ravager) now have a codex entry despite being a FW only upgrade.  I was surprised to find it out but it's there.  Also of course last CA with the FW point cost adjustments.

The impression I got from the last CA was not that GW were incompetant or malicious but rather that they didn't want to have FW LoW being a competitive choice in 2000 point matches.  They probably want to limit how often average players come across centrepiece models that have a big impact on the game at lower point levels, and push those choices towards Apoc style matches with people who are familiar with those units.  I don't necessarily agree with it, but I don't see a reason why GW would be any worse at writing the Custodes FW Codex than FW themselves given this perspective.

Thing is, that all sounds reasonable until you remember that Baneblades, Knights, Daemon Primarchs, Lords of Skulls, Wraithknights and other such things are permitted to exist. Want to run a Castellan that utterly dominates every game? Fine. Want to run a weaker Baneblade in a Space Marine army for more points that you paid hundreds of dollars for? You’re hurting the game and need to be stopped. It might have looked like gross incompetence but the sheer precision of it shows they knew exactly what they were doing. Once you eliminate ignorance as a motive, malice becomes a reasonable option.

UPDATE: Speaking to a friend who was also at the open day, he spoke to a different FW writer who says that actually the FW writing team and GW writing team have been merged when it comes to writing anything for AoS or 40K.

This was done apparently to avoid the inconsistencies in the rules between the two sides.

So With them being merged it looks like that’s who’s working on it and possibly why it’s been shelved as they have too much other stuff to do.

This has been flipping brutal. I haven't bought a model since March as I was thinking of waiting for the release to finalize my Talons. Still nothing. Unbelievable.

Yeah it's annoying for me too. I want to run a Pure Custodes army that isn't based around jetbike spam, and I want them to be a balanced force.

I believe the FW tanks and infantry would allow for this to happen. Where are the rules!?

I did the same. But after CA 2018 I started sell my inquisitions models. I foresee a bad period for them.

I'm really hoping the SoS get some 40K AND Kill Team love in 2019. They need better rules/points/options, and would make a perfect KT IMO. I hope GW doesnt wait for SoB to be overwhelmingly received and gobbled up by avid gamers before getting some updated rules and support out for the other ladies force and the Larger half of the Talons of the Emperor.
