BLACK BLŒ FLY
For me it has to be Lorgar - he started the whole mess and was such a hypocrite too. His hate for Guilliman was totally misdirected too. Second probably is Perterabo (sp?) because he is so vile but Mortarion is right up there because he is so evil and does not value his Death Guard. Third is Nighthaunter now that his background got retconned... just comes across now as a psycho killer with no real direction - funny he used to be one of my favorites when he was a tragic character. bluntblade
Mortarion does value his Death Guard. Arguably no Primarch appreciates the genhanced might of an Astartes as much as he does, going off the FW material. Wraight has made him one of the most compelling villains in the entire series. Kurze is prone to tipping into pantomime, but AD-B's portrayals of him are superb. Nothing emo there. Captain Semper
Great question! I actually like most of the Traitor Primarchs but if I was to choose the one I like the least, I'd say Angron - despite the the great literature about him (thx ADB) I find him fundamentally two-dimensional. I also have some reservations about Kurze - I just am not so convinced that his internal struggle with justice and morality would lead to such grand-scale atrocities... Love Lorgar - possibly my favourite and the Aurelian novella is in my opinion the best piece of Heresy literature yet. . Fire Golem
Really tricky, because when they’re written well, I like all of them. I guess Kurze maybe has the most iffy writing so maybe him. Preliminary Bombardment
Tricky, I mean they are they bad(er) guys right? If you hate them then it's working. But probably Lorgar. He just did it with no warning. That tells me he does not value them and rather sees them as a tool. rookie40K
Fulgrim because he collects My Little Pony. To each their own, but I don’t really get it. Next would be Perterabo because he is such a miserable person and it rubs off on all those around him. Years ago I would have said Logar, but when Malcador said if he could save any of them it would have been Logar, it opened my eyes a little. Plus I love chaplains, so thank you Logar. Also Logar was punished for believing what everyone in 40K now believes. How many 40K loyal chapters think and behave just like crusader era Word Bearers. Interesting, I’d like to see the context and quote for that. And yeah, that’s the big irony about the Word Bearers/HH. I love the bit in Black Legion where they find the Black Templars ship and they eat the brains to get the memories and one of the characters is just like ‘Lorgar was right!’ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347566-which-traitor-primarchs-do-you-dislike-the-most-and-why/#findComment-5089455 Share on other sites
Bulwyf
I don't hate any of them. The ones I like the least would be Angron and Lorgar. Angron is still a two dimensional character. Lorgar and Word Bearers just don't do anything for me because a bunch of religious fanatics doesn't do anything for me. Nothing against religion, mind you, I am an Orthodox Christian, but I just don't get into the "Chaos jelly beans for all!" flavor of Lorgar and his lads. Robbienw
How many 40K loyal chapters think and behave just like crusader era Word Bearers. Not many. Most Marines don't see the emperor as a god or subscribe to the imperial faith. Only the black templars and a tiny few other chapters do. I think I dislike Perturabo the most, I find him pathetic. TheRealMcCagh
It is interesting to me that several of the traitor primarchs come from worlds or situations that were nightmares. Anyone growing up on Nostramo, Barbarus or growing up as a gladiator slave is not going to come out of that as a cheerful happy lad. Plenty of loyalists grew up on terrible worlds too though. Guilliman and Perturabo are probably tied for easiest childhood, imo. Lorgar landed on a decent enough planet, other than the abusive father situation. And, ya know, the Chaos. Tizca seems pretty great apart from some of the local wildlife, but probably not as bad as Baal or Caliban, whose Primarchs both stayed loyal. I wonder where the Primarchs would sit if we ranked who had the worst childhood I agree about Lorgar though. I'm a little thrown off by his absolute need to serve something. He comes across as one of the more pathetic Primarchs. But in the lens of 40k, he's a great character. So I'm not sure if that means I hate him. Kind of like hating Joffery in ASoIaF, sure he's a punk, but he is a necessary punk Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347566-which-traitor-primarchs-do-you-dislike-the-most-and-why/#findComment-5089582 Share on other sites
bluntblade
A dead heat between Angron and Mortarion. Kurze seems to have enjoyed his more than either of them. choppyred
Horus, because he chose chaos out of pride. Lorgar had a reason, Angron was broken, Kurze belived he was right, Fulgrim went too far, Perturabo was misunderstood and Mortarion thought he knew best. But Horus with Horus it was just pride! Beren
Fulgrim perhaps. He seems to have been one of the only traitor Primarchs without a prior grudge against the Emperor and had a comparatively level early history. Regardless of how brutal a Loyalist Primarch is, they're still not worse than Chaos. Marshal Loss
I don't hate any of the Traitor Primarchs, but Magnus would comfortably be the one I like the least. I don't find him a compelling character and don't think that any of the interpretations of him in the BL series are particularly good at all. pandion40
A hard question, I’m probably in the minority of the fandom in that I’m not that interested in any of the traitors. I do find characters need flaws to be interesting but I like my characters to be aware of and manage or rise above their flaws. But the answers probably Fulgrim for me. He seemed to be very arrogant even before he fell, and I lost all respect for him when he just wimped out and allowed the Deamon to take full control of his body. The final nail was that I thought they were going to do something interesting with that situation, a Deamon in possession of a primarchs body and the dispossessed primarchs spirit trapped in a painting, to say I was underwhelmed with the resolution is an understatement. Logan probably comes second, I struggle with his obsessive need to have something to worship, anything will do no matter how vile and unworthy the god is, as an atheist I struggle to empathise with overly religious characters and Logars lack of selectivity when it comes to whom he worships turns that lack of connection into contempt.
