Stray
What has a 4++ (because Mechanicus FW knight), and will likely make Stray consider selling a major organ when released? Answer: http://tizca.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/WHfestLiveBlog-FW-Acastus9fs.jpg With the new Knights now sorta discussed pretty fully, mayhaps the new Acastus is worth chewing the fat over? Does anyone have a theory as to the weapons that thing is sporting for instance? They're reminiscent of one of the Ordinators to me O.o... Heliomanes
They told us that the weapons are huge versions of conversion beamers. A bit curious about them, since the current versions have the shared design trait that they get stronger in strength and AP the further away the target is. A bit like the opposite of a melta weapon. Stray
Also, note the volkite weapons. Yes! Good catch. You're right, they do seem to be scaled down versions of the Styrix's main weapon in the smaller mounts. Ahh! I hadn't heard that mentioned anywhere, but now you say that, it does make sense based on the aesthetic. I think we have to assume that we're looking at some very scary firepower... It's bound to be somewhat similar to the Porphyrons output, but this from only two 'barrels.' T9, 30 wounds, and BS 2+ is pretty much a given too. Stray
What in the mother of all creations is this and where did you find that photo!!? Have I missed something? 'Tis the new hotness buddy. It's the new Acastus Knight FW are producing. The second Knight in the Porphyrons class. I can't remember when FW first announced it, but I believe this is the most recent image and was from Warhammer Fest? We may see more shortly as there is a FW event day upcoming soonish. I'm guessing this'll get released around the next 30K book (Malevolence?) fedratsailor
if it goes like the atrapos we should see it by the end of the year hopefully. atrapos was previewed spring/summer 2016 and released later that year. Lysere
Sorry, but the head/skull thing really kills it for me. Its honestly hideous. I feel like this variant is the mechanicus design of the chassis while the original is more Imperial Knight style. I agree the skull kind of kills it for me. Clingy
I was ready to pull the trigger on the Porphyrion. Stray
I was ready to pull the trigger on the Porphyrion. Now I’m not so sure, what role will this one play and is Porphy still the big bad shooty knight This is all massively guesswork, but... The new one will be tankier, almost certainly. It's a safe bet it'll have a 4++ vs shooting, 5++ in melee just like it's smaller kin. I think you'll also find the Porphyron will do more wounds against big targets too - it has what are basically really big Lascannon after all. C-beamers like on this, (if I'm thinking of the right weapon rules) will probably do something funky like affect the target, and anything else they pass over getting to it, or affect the target and then do lesser damage to stuff around it. They have a higher strength value from greater distance too. Volkite we know has a tendency to do extra hits on good rolls, so probably this one will hit less hard, but to many more targets? If I were a betting cat it's where I'd put my money. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347955-more-new-knights/#findComment-5100409 Share on other sites
Stray
Do these have 40K rules? If they do, how do you get those rules? In 7th, they tended to be a free download from FW. Those were moved to the Imperial Armour indexes for 8th, so it's hard to say. Given that it doesn't really fit in a book release, probably you'll get free rules as a download again? Otherwise it might end up in something like FoC. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347955-more-new-knights/#findComment-5100411 Share on other sites

Marshal Reinhard
The Volkite look like Culverin to me Porphy has lascannons or autocannons right? So the size fits. Presumably you'll get another weapon option here too, for those who want something that's 40k compatible. The lascannons on the Porphyron are 2d3 shot reaper chainswords (Same S, AP, and D as the index chainsword used by a knight) with 72" of range, and it has two of them. Pretty reliable for nuking targets from across the table. Hopefully the Porphy isn’t getting knocked off that perch anytime soon. Do you think they will ever make new main weapon load outs for it? Would it be worth magnetising the arms to avoid having to rip things off later? Or do you think it’s a one build configuration(with the exception of the missile turret option and open/closed hatch. I'd be very surprised if they ever did do additional loadouts for the FW Knights. It's not impossible, but I'd doubt it - especially given their capacity of late. It'd likely be too niche. If you assemble the Porphys weapons carefully, they can actually be removed and posed without magnetising anyway - or at least the main ones can. It's quite a nice kit like that. Mine was unfortunately purchased secondhand, and though unpainted had seemed to have been assembled by a group of Raccoons who really liked blu-tac and glue... Which has been fun to clean up :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347955-more-new-knights/#findComment-5100784 Share on other sites
