Codex Space Marines Amendments

Recommended Posts

I'd like Marines to be particularly powerful at close ranged firepower, with decent performance at range and close assault. The balance being elite numbers.

I'm in absolute agreement with this sentiment. I think the work you and others are doing here is great. I'm working on my own ideas to contribute. I'm very much in the same thought space you are in when it comes to marines.

I'd like marines to be decent at all 3 and then the chapter tactics/strategems etc. improve one of those areas significantly. Or, in the case of say Ultramarines a more flexible (but temporary and less powerful) boost.

One little tweak that would help base marines in shooting would be to adjust the AP of standard bolt weapons. (Pistols, guns, storm, Hurricane etc.) Either AP-1 (Heavy Bolter to -2???) OR, if deemed OP, why not AP-1 on wound rolls of 6, like Shuriken Catapults? I find it galling that sharp spinny discs have better armour penetration than rocket propelled explosive bullets!

I also had a think about Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer Frag Assault Launchers, it was dumb to lump them in with the launchers on the Ironclad and the Centurions, those units are designed to get into combat, Land Raiders are not. So, I would suggest renaming them 'Land Raider Assault Launchers' and reword them to say 'on the turn in which any unit which successfully charges after having disembarked from a Land Raider Crusader or Redeemer inflicts D3 mortal wounds.)

@Captain Idaho

i reread the first post. i'm really liking the changes, especially for landraiders being allowed to fall back and shoot. makes no sense that marines who only come from certain geneseed have figured out how to do this but drivers of the the heaviest tank in the codex cannot. i pray these changes get done.

It's been a team effort. Even before feedback in this thread, everything I prepared was based upon opinion of the community I compiled and researched.

The extra information here is great. I need to update the top post with latest changes I just haven't time right now with the kids etc.

Idaho, when are you planning on putting this to GW? I don’t know what their lead time is for Chapter Approved, just concerned you don’t miss the boat as there have been some great suggestions in here.

Unless they’re already watching...

It's possible I sent it a few days ago... ;)

The FAQ window has been cancelled but I'm persistent.

I got a return from customers services confirming they passed it onto the design team. Hopefully they didn't dismiss it out of hand.

worst case scenario the suggestions make it in time for the next marine book after space wolves. although they just could experiment by using a less famous codex astartes compliant chapter and put the rules in either white dwarf or online

If that's the worst case then I gladly take it. It's what I'd consider among the better cases lol

maybe i'm being a tad bit optimistic here but maybe a new marine book just in time for a xmas release? five months should be more than enough time to produce a solid codex and possibly some new units if they are not going to bother improving the rules of units they are not keen on selling.

Rumours I've heard are they'll be doing a primaris only marine book in 2019 that discards most of the older range. Lets face it, GW might be happy to tell us that they want us to use all our old marine range I think in our gut we all know the primaris are the future. As much as I like my older marines and their toys this scuttlebutt does feel like it has the ring of truth.

The pessimist in me tells me that GW are allowing the old marine range to wither and die away on purpose so as much as I'd love them to be kept competitive I just can't see it happening.

The pessimist in me thinks the entire game system is on the way out. Kill Team is going to be much more lucrative.

How do people think about the Relics?

Personally I think the Teeth of Terra, Primarch's Wrath and Shield Eternal are pretty good. Armour Indomintus is so so and the Burning Blade is rubbish. A Relic Blade blows it out of the water and for free you can have Teeth of Terra which is superior. I also don't see anyone using the Tome of Malcador.

(The Chapter specific Relics need work too but let's focus on the generic ones).
