Missing houses from the transfer sheets

OK I have to just lay this out there:  MAKING YOUR OWN TRANSFER SHEETS IS INCREDIBLY EASY AND NOT THAT EXPENSIVE!!!

Seriously, consider the following:

-You can buy printable transfer paper for 20 bucks for a handful of sheets (at least 10 per pack)

-It'll work in any standard size printer; I prefer inkjet for high quality details, though

-You get solidity/durability with a quick acrylic spray (typically gloss)

-Literally any decal can be produced via a quick Google image search, and a bit of MSpaint skill (or best case, Photoshop) will get you lovely images

-B&C has TONS of transfer sheet options if you don't mind slightly wonky images to avoid copyright nonsense

My one warning is: DO NOT PRODUCE SHEETS WITH COPYRIGHTED IMAGES AND ATTEMPT TO SELL THEM.  This is uncool.

Otherwise, give it a try.  I was floored by how easy this was to do and remain amazed that so few tabletop gamers are willing to even give it a chance.

Yeah, the only reason I send mine out to print is because my designs typically have white areas.  Standard inkjet printers don't print white ink.  You can get the same effect by painting while underneath the decal so it shows through.

I meant for using printed transfer paper. I ordered some and I wasn’t sure if I’d be better getting some rattle can gloss or if I’d be fine airbrush spraying the printed sheets with a few layers of thinned VMC Matte Coat.

When ordering from most printers (including Bedlam Creations) the transfer sheets come ready to cut and apply.  So, I don't really have any experience with that side of it.  Vel'Cona might have more advice for you.

You can get white backed transfer sheets can’t you?

You can, but then the choice is:

  • White-backed transfer sheets, and you have to be very careful about cutting out the transfer so there aren't white edges around it
  • Clear transfer sheets, and you have to undercoat the transfer area with white

I didn't like either option, so I get my transfers printed professionally on clear paper with white ink for the necessary areas.  It's not that expensive and it's one less thing that I have to worry about.

I did the same and got mine from Fallout Hobbies. They were pretty good. I  haven't tried Bedlam Creations but I'd expect that they would do a similarly good job. Are there any other places that a worth noting?

Here is the definitive B&C resource for custom decals:

Ye Olde Decal Project

This thread has a list of decal printers by country/region:

The Forges of Mars

Carlson793 has taken quite a few of my requests for transfer sheet designs, though I don't know if he's still active:

Carlson's College of Arms & Graffiti

I didn't mind using the "paint white behind the transfer" method in my project, but I can totally understand why someone wouldn't enjoy this.  In either case, I'm already working on my second custom transfer set for my non-canon Knightly House, and I daresay it'll be just as successful as previous projects for the extra "elbow grease" I'm putting into the transfers now :)

This explanation helped. I had no idea how to do printable transfers so the "it's easy" thing still seemed hard to me. I'm going to look at some of the stuff you posted about and see what I can learn.

Don't be afraid to ask questions while working through this, either!  There's been so much interest in the "other" Knightly Houses since the codex dropped and it seems a shame that Frater are giving up without even testing this route.  I for one will happily answer any PMs I get in regards to producing custom decals :)

I think I’m going to get some fine nail scissors to help with trimming the decals so I don’t have to paint white. Alternatively I can make some sized stencils for the airbrush.

Anyway my decal paper arrived today! I just need to get some decent lacquer. Would a few coats of airbrushed gloss do or would the rattle can stuff be safer?

Please continue to post your results here. I haven't had time to delve into the decal sheets yet. Honestly I'll probably just run a generic paint scheme so I can play my own counts as forgeworld. Many of them look very neat and I'd like that option.
