Kill Team Focus: Deathwatch

From what I can tell we only get Veterans, I watched the Winter SEO and he tells you the number of sheets each group gets and looks like we only get one.

The link in the first post of this thread says Intercessors and Reivers are also options, though...

I'm with Lemondish, the double page only shows the veterans but intercessors and reivers are definitely an option - they were in the warhammer community article and are on the website too.

I wonder if there is a page reference telling you to use the same entry as the space marines have or something like that.

That's most likely the case considering how limited their wargear is anyway.

He is completely wrong - DW gets primaris, they use SM sheets but replace SM keyword with DW keyword and SIA access.

So, been thinking about possible loadouds. Depending on point costs, auto bolt rifles might be the best DW general-purpose gun here, since table is quite small ABR lack of range is more than equalized by volume of fire. Primaris stalker bolter seems completely pointless. As for Vets, while Black Orange is right and no-bits-no-rules disease eliminated storm bolters and chainswords from DW repertoire, combi-weapons cost a pittance (combi-melta is just 3 points, for example) so every Veteran that doesn't sport heavy weapon should be armed with combi and power weapon of some sort. All in all, looks better than I thought initially, sure, gear cuts to DW were dumb but others suffered worse so ironically DW arsenal now dwarfs that of CSM and SM, only being equaled by DG...

Why would you overcharge it? 95% of the targets in Kill Team doesn't warrant it. Combi-plasma is just better storm bolter when used in regular firing mode.

So, for DW Kill Team I think best composition is Primaris sergeant as leader for durability, Blackshield for melee though seeing he is slow Reiver might be better, 1-2 heavy weapon operators, rest being a mix of what you can take (Reivers, some Intercessors, maybe Veteran sniper or plasma-gunner) depending on the opposition.

If you roll a 1 to hit while supercharging the model is simply removed and there’s a lot of minus to hit modifiers. The combi plasma is cheap though as you pointed out. I agree an Intercessor is probably the best choice for your team leader.

So what would you all recommend for a starting kill team?  I have the 5 man kill team box and the Deathwatch upgrade kit + the primaris from Dark Imperium.  I definitely want a couple heavies with an Infenus HB and a Frag launcher.  And maybe a close combat guy with xenophase blade and storm shield.   Beyond the advice above to get a primaris sergeant as the leader not sure what else I should take to round out the squad.

And maybe a close combat guy with xenophase blade and storm shield.

Sadly, only normal sergeant can take xenophase blade (which is kind of dumb). I am not sure if you can take him as second, non-leader sergeant (since you definitely don't want to rush your leader forward) but if so, either veteran sergeant or black shield both make good combat specialists.

.

Are all the options the same as in 40K? For instance, can I take Storm Shield and Storm Bolter, a combo most of my dudes are armed with?

From what I've seen if it's not in the boxed set then it's not an option - so no storm bolter veterans.

Personally glad I didn't cannibalise all my old kill team vets for the new edition book yet!

Can Primaris and Vets be mixed in the same team? An Intercessor Sgt, Reaver and then a couple Veteran gunners, for example?

Yes to this. It's a kill team, not just one squad of all the same dudes.

Wish we could have proper breachers, the shotguns are looking really good now. Any one think a Blackshield with a shield and maul is worth the points?

Also not sure why you would take an Infernus at all with it costing the same as the Frag Cannon. Same autohit at 8" and the range of the HB is kind of wasted.

My first try was:

Vet Sgt with Xenophase and Shield,

BlackShield with Maul and Shield,

Vet with FragCannon,

Vet with Frag Cannon,

Vet with Shotgun.

Comes too 100 Exactly. I would of liked to have added an intercessor last but the Bolt Rifle costing 2 put me over :(

I suppose 3 shots not 2 and the range isn't wasted, you're accurate to 18 inches instead of 12. Though yes, the fact they have same points is dumb.

Your team has very light shooting and small wound pool, I'd take primaris with rifles instead of first of last guy, but that's just my preference.
