Kill Team Focus: Deathwatch

You only get three specialists plus the leader and you must field them all in your first game - once they are gone that is it .

Not according to https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/07/22/22nd-july-kill-team-forging-your-teamgw-homepage-post-1

I get that Special Ammo is great. But it doesn't make sense to pay for it per weapon. If it was 4 points per model then fine, but it costs twice as much for a model with carbine and pistol as it does for a sword and pistol.

Especially odd to make pistols 2 points when they can't shoot in combat and they don't add an attack for 2 combat weapons. Pistols are totally pointless if you have another gun. Or have I missed something?

Once models are engaged within melee range, the pistol can still be used during the Shooting phase unless that was changed.

After looking over the points:

  • Intercessor Sgt: ABR
  • Gunner: Frag Cannon
  • Black Shield: Power Maul & Storm Shield
  • Veteran: Combi-Plasma & Power Sword
  • Veteran: Boltgun & Power Sword

Exactly 100pts - can easily remove a Power Sword or swap one around to the Sgt if needed.  Can swap a Veteran for an Intercessor too.  I enjoy modeling DW a lot, so hoping this list isn't too bad.

I think a mobile unit like a Reivers is going to have a lot of potential against some gun heavy Kill Teams.

If a Frag Cannon keeps its flexibility... wow. If you can split fire the flamer for instance....and wack a distant unit with the solid round, it could be devastating against anything from AdMech to Nids.

This game -could- be the one thing that has me pulling out my Shotguns again which would be awesome.

A sidenote - 2D weapons have big bonus to killing power in this game, which could make shotguns much better in hindsight. At least, not completely useless.

Also, a pity that Duncan kill team wasn't his awesome pre-Codex Deathwatch collection, but new models. I wonder if he was told to advertise KT box?

GW didn’t want another black shield heavy thunder hammer controversy again, so they probably made him use the studio army for that video.

I think shotguns being assault weapons will give them a unique spot. I think SIA will be preferred, but one shotgun vet used for forward ops like objective grabbing or outflanking with a CC specialist could be effective.

Irbis - Why D2 is So important? You only make one wound roll to see If ir is flesh wound or out of action? No matter how many wounds you inflict. But Maby i don’t know something

The attacking player rolls a number of D6 equal to the D value of the attack when making an injury roll, so your chances of getting an ‘out of action’ result are much better than just rolling 1 D6. You still only choose the highest result of the D6 you rolled, you don’t apply multiple flesh wounds. Just the result of the single highest dice roll.

Still new to the rules and learning but that’s what makes multiple D weapons very nice, in addition to dealing well with multi wound models, which, in this game, are particularly strong.

Because when you take enemy model out of action, you discard the remaining hits. This is why 3 shot weapon with D1 can only inflict one standard injury roll regardless of how many times you'll hit/wound. Multiple D gun gets bonus on injury roll, from what I read even in seemingly illogical cases (like W2 model being hit by single D2 shot), giving you better chance to eliminate enemies. I suppose it's a way to assure not everyone will be armed with combi-flamers and other auto-hit weapons as most of these are D1.

Also, have you seen "IG" dice on preorder? They couldn't make better DW dice if they tried, especially after really annoying, hard to read numbers on 'real' DW dice :whistling:

Black Shield, Brother Alban

- Thunder hammer

Black Shields can't take Thunder Hammers - only DW Veterans can.  In the WarGear options, Deathwatch Veteran is explicitly named for being able replace their boltgun with a DW Shotgun or heavy Thunder Hammer.

Similarly, only Deathwatch Veteran Gunners may select the DW frag cannon / IHB.
