I will be entering my Mentor Legion in this year’s Armies On Parade.

When I entered my Slaanesh marines in 2016 and 2017 I put them in a diorama, facing Biel Tan Eldar, fighting for a maiden world. Similarly I’ll be putting my Mentors in a diorama fighting...

A Genestealer cult.

Two classic 2nd edition armies.

Now, I didn’t do a lot of Eldar models in the last AoP as I don’t actually want an army of them, and the same applies to GSC. Just enough for there to be some OpFor in the diorama.

I have some purestrains done from another diorama, which I’ll be reusing, including one getting its head blown apart:

And am now working on a pack of GSC. Overalls and boots will be beige as it should show up the Mars powder nicely. For reference, some of my Mentors:

I plan to do the ribbed bits of their clothing as dark, dirty metal. Add some hazard stripes for colour on plates here and there. For loincloths I’m thinking red - while it is a colour on the Mentors too, the diorama is supposed to be on a Mechanicus world so I think the red will tie them to it.

Just WIPs:

The last one is modelling being shot and toppling backwards. Hand blow off and a shot to the gut. Blood spray made from superglue applied to a hair. It beads naturally.

Not much to look at but Leadbelcher is done on all, and shaded with Nuln oil. Next I’ll be drybrushing the metal with Necron Compound and doing brown leather (straps, holsters, pouches, etc.). Then Agrax Earthshade over everything done so far.

Then getting on to hazard stripes, lenses, flesh and getting some more colours into the palette.

Aaaaaand I’ve decided to put off entering my Mentors vs. GSC until AoP2019 as I want to add more units to the GSC-side. As it’s a mine-diorama I’d be making a mistake if there wasn’t a Goliath Rockgrinder in there, for one. :tu:

That's quite the stark change with agrax! They look close to finished with that!

It certainly sped up the process :D and makes them look sufficiently dirty into to the bargain :tu: It should be easy enough to replicate if I expand to a second squad or more, too.

 

I’m looking forward to the next steps, which will add some colour to them.

Keeping AoP2019 in mind I’m trying not to work on my Orks (they’re for AoP2020 :D) and am getting back to my Mentors and GSC...

I’m still undecided on the skin of the 4th gen hybrids...I like the purple as it gives them some colour, whereas more a more ‘(white) human’ skin tone would blend in with their clothing...

Perhaps going a few shades lighter on the people would make the contrast less stark?

I redid the skin on some of the more human looking hybrids to give them a more pale flesh tone. I will post photos soon.

My GSC squad bases. Unlike a lot of people I actually like making bases :D

But forgot to repaint the trim black before putting the models on...

Other than that the squad is done.

I’m very happy with them but want to get a midway between the purple-skinned ones and the pale-skinned ones in future.

This one took a shot to the gut and another blew his left hand off. It’s the second time I’ve tried posing a walking model on the ‘wrong foot and I like how it helps them look like they’re mid fall.

Yes, I probably should have gone with a lighter purple - since I am going for something like the classic Space Hulk look. I’m doing the ‘tech priest hybrid’s skin next so will try a pinker purple there. If that works out then I can redo they hybrids. Make the purple ones pinker and the pinker one’s a little purpler :D

I may go back and redo the skin of the hybrids but it will be the same in time as I do the crew of the Goliath I have still to make :tu:

I think different skin tones could be a viable option in your army, unless you're stickler for uniformity (which, having seen your Slaane:cusses, I seriously doubt :P). In any case this lighter shade looks good. :tu:

Indeed. There’s a reason I can’t do more than ten Imperial Guard or Mentors before having to rotate to one of my other armies.

After getting this AoP2019 entry done I’m looking forward to getting back to my Psychopomps and Snakebites.

I decided to follow my heart and KILLMAIMBURN!!!

Oversized but I care not.

Will be adding skulls and severed heads to selected other models. Must change the Neophyte’s weapon from a skull-smashing mace to a skull-taking axe...
