Managed to get the metals knocked out, base tones down and start freehanding the roses. May look again at a sculpted one given how small they are ending up. Hope you all enjoy. Good progress has been made planning out the banner on the command squad and paints already going on. As a little treat to me I decided to throw something together for the 1st. A Custode. With the command squad making progress it only fitting that a commander join their ranks. I wanted it to echo the terminator commander with the idea of it being the same dude in his early years of command. The base is giving me a bit of a puzzle I want to model him on 40mm to get a bit more atmosphere in to the piece but I also know a few people get funny about base sizes. I am hoping to get some time with my light box later to show off where the painting has gotten to on a few units. Been busy trying to get some bits done for an upcoming short campaign that’s all zone mortalis and Centurion. So a unit of seekers and a Deredo was a logical choice to break through those 2+ saves. The_Stray_Idea Posted September 14, 2018 Author Share Posted September 14, 2018 Well I have finally had the time to get the light box up for some finished pics of the vet squad. Pleased with how they came out. Was very strange watching the colours pull the sole green wash out of the armour. I think the atmospheric dusting has definitely pulled them together nicely. The Custodes got knocked out between some of the WIP’s I have uploaded. Really enjoyed exploring him. Some more will definitely be introduced into the crusade host in the future. I have thrown in a WIP of the command squad and the Knight commander. Am trying to push myself to have a good showing ready for Armies on Parade. My camera really did not like some of the metals with the first hues washed onto the metals not a lot that can be done about that though. Really enjoying the little bits of freehand and the roses. They definitely need some work but that’s all part of the project. Tackling the banner is definitely going to be a challenge as I’m pretty happy with the tapestry type effect Iv got on it but once free hand begins there is no going back. Finally the seekers. Have been put together and started. Loads of fun to get stuck into their lore and make them a bit more than snazzy bolter bros. I’m hoping the mk Iv and mk vi will not look out of place when they have their command raider. I however was thrown a trio of projects that just screamed doooo it! I was asked to update the arch traitor and current warmaster of the black legion. Along with Nurgles favoured son. I like that top knot on Abbadon, is that from Archaon? My kitbash has a hooded fella but I wouldn't mind adding that top knot to the armor. And did you use the Lord of Contagions arms on Typhus? The solution to fit on the Talon is very unique and looks fantastic, and the topknot really emphasizes who that mini is supposed to represent. I'd recommend using 30k Abaddons face though, as the one made from finecast really starts to show its age. Typhus is looking good too, I'm excited to see them painted! You do need to remove the thigh nurgling to get a good fit and to sink the helm into thebarmour requires some creative shaving. @Pearson73 thanks I appreciate the feed back. The red trim does a lot to pull the green out of the armour. I’m glad your enjoying that gold I’d really recommend giving it a go it’s really rewarding on a Custodes with all the details that they have to offer. @AHortiblrPerson. Thanks man that claw it’s an interesting one to do and not too difficult surprisingly. I originally had the 30k head in but the sculpt feels young. I really enjoy the fine cast face as it has those slightly heavier details with regards to the brow and cheek bones. I think we will probably agree to disagree on the Abby faces but I do appreciate what you mean. @Dantay VI thanks man I learnt a lot from the wolves as they are definitely one of the easier legions to add some character to. I’m sure I will be deploying lion and wolf at some point in the future. So that last pic of Thphus gives the basics for a removable gaming base from a display base. I wanted to step away from space vampire and add an element of grace to the piece. I’ll let you all be the judge of how that came together. As for the Angels I have been furiously trying to get the pintle mounted multi meltas build and been lining up some prep work on an upcoming Dreadnought.
