Primaris Upgrade pack

I'm just not seeing which pads you feel you have to use, but couldn't find elsewhere without the icon.  Seriously.  Care to show us?

I'm not trying to tell you how to make your army, I'm just observing that there's got to be an easier way.

And you completely misunderstood the rest.  I didn't say "cut it off to paint it on" and I don't even see how you could arrive at that.  I'm saying it doesn't have to be black and yellow, you could easily paint the background a different color and/or the head as well.  It's not a symbol that's only ever been unique to Ragnar's company.

But if you don't want to use that symbol at all, there are many, many Space Wolf shoulder pads that are quite decorative and "wolfy" that don't have the raised detail in other kits besides the upgrade sprue.  It's almost like they took existing shoulder pad sculpts and put the wolf's head on them for these two sprues.

I mean, if it's not that much work for you to remove the detail and have a surface that's smooth enough, good on you.  Personally, I prefer to find an alternative that I don't need to cut away, whenever possible.  It's the same reason I wouldn't use a Dark Angels or Ultramarines upgrade sprue on these models.

If you look at his army he's using the ones from the regular upgrade kit and filing off the blackwolf icon and painting the pad the GC mark he wants.

$15 for the sprue and some filing is infinitely cheaper and speedier than ordering from shapeways or anywhere else for that matter.

The Primaris one is just regular Primaris pads with the marking on it so it provides little to no benefit for how it APPEARS Petey is building/painting.

:D

I was under the impression that it was the Primaris pack we were talking about, given the name of the topic and his initial comment.  I guess we were just talking about two different things.

I also file the blackmane icon off of the upgrade-sprue (the previous, non-primaris upgrade sprue) shoulder pads.

http://www.warroomgaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/99070101012_SpaceWolvesUpgrades01.jpgThose shoulders have some unique space wolves motifs going on even without the great company icon. However the Primaris pads, if you take the icon off... They're just plain shoulder pads.

It takes 10 minutes to scrub off the great company and 15 minutes to freehand a new one. Sculpting my own would take a week of trial and error.

I think my initial reply was pretty readable. Primaris upgrade purchases = 1, previous = ~7 for the reasons stated.

The funny thing is... I use Shapeways so much for my GC and pack markings, it never once occurred to me to just file down the blackmane icon on those pads, or any others for that matter. I just kinda reconciled myself to paying 13 bucks for the sword, axe, pack etc...

I am sometimes not a smart human.

The question for me is why we didn't get a free upgrade sprue bundled into our primaris kits like the angels got on their release.

well because we dont have primaris kits to bundle with it.

We have the same ones they have though. They just got a free upgrade sprue with their intercessors, agressors, etc. which you can still buy on the GW website. We have to buy the kit (which costs the same) and then also buy the sprue, effectively making our primaris kits more expensive.
Its not free, its $5 more.
Not on the US webstore:

Blood angels intercessors with sprue - $60

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Blood-Angels-Primaris-Intercessors-2017

Space Marine intercessors no sprue - $60

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Space-Marines-Primaris-Intercessors

If thats the case, any US based Space Wolves fans needing some intercessors in the shirt term should buy the Blood Angels Intercessor kit for the free chainsword and pistol. There's nothing particular Angelly about either of those bits and will give you a chainsword for the nopposite arm the Wolf upgrade sprue does.
