New Codex FAQ Candidates

Lord Ragnarok

Thread to disclose potential candidates for a FAQ. Post and discuss here.

Things I've found in the enhanced codex

1. Reivers have a powersword option listed but no process to add the wargear item (non SW Reivers do not have a power weapon option)

2. Intercessor sergeant cannot take power sword. Says may replace chainsword with chainsword :teehee:

Not sure what you mean by the Reivers comment. don't have the codex with me.

I really really hope they don't change too much. The warlord traits have already been fully replaced. I'm quite happy with the strategems as it is.

Do not touch my Long Fangs, Do not touch my Long Fangs, Do not touch my Long Fangs, Do not touch my Long Fangs, Do not touch my Long Fangs, .....

I don't think this will be a FAQ candidate but I am interested to see if Fenrisian Wolves really are 2 more points-per-model. It breaks my heart they brought them back up from the Chapter Approved cost. It was a horde option that would have made it easier for us to mono-build. Hordes are an integral part of the game and it would be nice to have another tool in the box.

Anyway I think a lot of the FAQ questions will be to try and figure stuff like Lord Ragnarok's questions. There was a lot of copy and paste. It wasn't done well in some areas: Teleport homers and some of the primaris options.

I am still hoping for cost discounts to Wulfen and TWC. I also agree with the poster above about reducing the Fenrisian wolves back to their old cost. I don't understand why they increased the cost to them.

It isn't just the Fen wolves cost increase that doesn't make sense. The power armoured wolf guard sergeant costs have increased. Whereas before the power armoured wolf guard additions matched whatever squad it was attached to (BC and GH's wolf guard sergeant was 13, Long Fangs was 14), now they are uniform across the board 16 points. As a result, we are essentially paying 3 more points for every Wolf Guard sergeant we take, whereas all other marine sergeants cost remain the same with their squad. This doesn't make sense as a WG sergeant is identical save for better access to Storm Shields, frost weaponry and power weapons, minus grav weapons.

Still, I was thinking of trying back my Barkstar again. Wulfen I feel cost fine, but as much as I hate TWC, they do cost a bit too much for a non-character unit with 3 wounds.

Lion and Wolf Strategem is also suspiciously missing. What is Dark Angel?

Again, there's literally no point in having it printed in the Space Wolve Codex as well. When you have a Dark Angel in your army you already get access to that Stratagem anyway.

Blood Angel: Kill heretic. Especially, kill Black Legion.:furious:

Dark Angel: Kill heretic. Especially, kill fallen angel.:furious:

Space Wolves: Kill Thousand Sons. What is heretic?:dry.:

I'm honestly not too upset about that. Nobody really uses those Stratagems against non-Black Legion/on-Fallen anyway. Marines simply don't offer enough attacks to rely on 6s.

I've been teasing dark angel players by telling them that it is proof that they need us more than we need them Lol

Haha, I second that. Even though Lion techically "won" that fight, now it seems like the DA are the ones who still insist on the duels instead of the Wolves. It can also be said that the Wolves are mature enough to not care about that old score anymore.

Actually for Space Wolves, we might be able to use it more due to nearly every unit possessing a chainsword, and also access to extra attacks via either Wulfen Stone or the Wulfen aura themselves.

Still, it remains a situational strategem to rely on exploding sixes. I still hear my Imperial Fists friends weep for their bolter drill being just exploding sixes.

It would also mean it triggers on a 5+ on the charge for Space Wolves. Probably another reason why it's different. :P

Armour of Russ relic: if the chosen unit has an ability that fights first then they cancel each other out? and also  if the chosen unit charged? does it still fight last or it counts as having a fight first ability cause it charged?

they couldnt just make it that the chosen unit always fight last :cuss :tongue.:

I think this ones pretty easy. Saga of the warrior born specifically calls out chargers while this one doesn't. I think its intended that we can shut something down even if they charge.

I think they need to fix scouts and scout bikes with the FAQ. If they are elites and cost more they should be effective on the tabletop hands down.

This. Please. So much this. Putting blatantly inferior and useless units in an elite spot and saying, "because fluff" is just dumb.

Thing to be Errata'd the entry of the Great Wolf Claw in the Armoury of the Fang since it says D6 damage.

Of course no point changes unless there is an error in typing.

I expect a few questions regarding the Armour of Russ.

Hope they at least change to Wolf Scours to how they where before. Removing the access to melee weapons is baffling. They weren't good and they were nerfed in options. Errata the access of Wolf Scout Bikers to at least have a WG Bike Leader.

I'd like the Emperor's Executioners to have the added benefit of the Heretic Astartes in general on a 6+. It is not great, but as mentioned all Astartes can do that and with our volume of atracls it would actually mean more.

As for The Lion and The Wolf stratagem, us having it would mean that we don't need DA detachment to get access to it (we could just put a DA character in a SM detachment to get it, so put a Librarian, a DA cheap character and some Scouts, while they don't get Chapter Tactics or Stratagems, could provide CP, use the Might of Heroes and if we still have access to the Lion and the Wolf, add a Wulfen Lord as discussed in another thread and you get a WL that has 8 S12 attacks when Might of Heroes is cast on him, the envy of all Slamguinius in the world).

I’d like to see Thunder Hammers come back as a wargear option for Blood Claw Pack Leaders, Sky Claw Pack Leaders and Grey Hunter Pack Leaders. I get the removal of frost weapons and wolf claws being reserved for wolf guard, but Thunder Hammers have been a staple for my pack leaders. That’s a lot of remodeling I’d have to do.

I'm really hoping that we can avoid another round of nerfs, specifically on the FEW highlights that we do have, such as

1) The Armour of Russ ( Performs amazing against Gallants and other solo CC beasts ) - worried they might reword to give the charger back the initiative, thus making this relic as useful as our Saga of the Warrior Born .... Poop...

2) Keen Senses - Hopefully this Strat keeps the ability to also ignore the moving+shooting heavy weapon modifier.

3)Chooser of the Slain - i like it but i can't see them keeping it. Currently you can shoot with any friendly unit within 6" ( not just SW Faction ) meaning whatever shooting element you souped in can unload  aka.. Castellan

From the few games i've played with this Codex, it has been a blast. It's certainly not top tier and i'm ok with that... just really hoping they don't take any more from the Wolves but i don't expect any pt decreases or unit modifications in our favour

We can't take groups of Battl Leaders. I dont think either of the Angels can with their Lt's either. That feels like its a Codex marine thing because there are 2 Lt's in the starter box and only one model for us and the Angels for our respective unit. Same reason why none of the "non" codex compliant chapters don't get teleport homers with their TDA squads, that bit is only in the codex marine TDA box.

On Terminator options:

- do tartaros and Cataphractii squad gain access to the full wolf armory?

- Can Wolf guard squad leaders gain the option to take different patterns of termi armor (tartaros, catapractii)

Are those 'FAQs'? Or requests for new rules? Because the the dex is pretty explicit. The answer to both is no. Tartaros and Cataphractii have their own unique weapon options (matching what's available in each kit) rather than armoury access and the WGPL only gets one Terminator profile, which is regular Indomitus.

Perhaps GW is willing to consider listing the why, of the Wolf Guard Pack Leader points increases, across all packs? The listing of each might be related to the difference between WGPL and Sergeants, whereas, the (x)PL, as in, GHPL, is closer to the unit's Sergeant, instead?

Still, a little wonky there; I honestly wonder why the tax on WGPL's over Sergeants. Options access?
