Heavy Weapons Team Suggestions

So I started to work on guardsman models (just started the game)  and am stumped on what I should give to my heavy weapons teams. I Currently have two start your collection for the Astra Militarium and debating between going mortars or heavy bolters. I plan to get another start your collection to make a battalion and get a full HWT squad. I was hoping to make the leman russes my main anti vehicle since I will have 3 and possibly 4 if i decide to get the enginseer/tank commander bundle. I am up for any suggestions.

From one heavy weapon team sprue you can build both a mortar and a Heavy Bolter/Lascannon/Autocannon since they don't share any parts. You just need some extra bases an crew.

My advice would be to build as many mortars as possible and one of the other weapons for every mortar (except missile launchers, they are useless).

You can also just glue the tripod on and dry slot whichever weapon you want that day (heavy bolter, autocannon or lascannon) gives you much more options.

Oh and I agree with H311fi5h. Make mortars with spare bases and extra crew! I have some HWT with 1 guy and body parts (so many spare arms) on the Base edge to show that one of them is dead and it is only crewed by 1 guy

In principle you can use all the HW options provided in the box by adding extra figures (I use the 5 man snap fit box as it is cheap) and tripods.

The figures do not need to be kneeling (especially the ML) and the 2nd team member is just a lasman so can come from a squad you are not using to save on model costs.

Tripods can be bought from bits suppliers or 3rd party sellers such as Anvil Indstry

along with gun shields as required:

I have made my own bases with a 25mm recess for the 2nd team member to be able to remove them as a wound marker or to move them to an infantry squad. I used mdf board and it is fairly simple to do if you invest in some basic tooling.

Now you say one mortar team or one mortar squad?

Heavy Weapon Teams are either part of normal Imperial Guard squads or they can be grouped together to create support squads that provide cover for the advancing troops.

This multi-part plastic set enables you to build 3 Cadian Heavy Weapons Teams. Each team of two can be equipped with any one of the following weapons: lascannon, heavy bolter, missile launcher, autocannon or mortar. It is possible to give all teams the same heavy weapons to build a support squad.

1 HW with 2 crew = 1 Heavy Weapon Team

3 x Heavy Weapon Teams = 1 Heavy Weapon Squad
