A little bit more work on the 3 Reavers, including a start at their bases and pinning

Thanks. I shamelessly plundered the idea from Doghouse's work, I loved it so much I couldn't resist.

Slowly but surely tying up some loose ends, I added a couple more magnets here and there, glued the plasma annihilators together (except for component 117 so I can better access the back of the cables for painting them) and built the Arioch power claw, I magnetised it in the same way as the previous one with a little addition to also be able to move the wrist. This is more for the challenge than anything else as it is absolutely not needed.

I figured that I could drill a 2mm diameter hole through component 120 and insert a rod to allow movement. But adding a rod means you need two holes on the inside of the power claw on the left and right of component 120. You don't want to drill through the power claw though, except on the side you'll glue component 122 as it will cover the 2mm diameter hole (more than 2mm and you'll see it). Watch out for correctly aligning the drill and keep components 118, 119 and 120 firmly in place. I drilled through 120 before drilling through the side of the power claw, it helps with the alignment. Once you have drilled, cut an appropriate size rod, insert it into component 120, dry fit and fine-tune as required.

Dry-fitting the rod

Watch out for avoiding leaving a gap (dry-fit and fine-tune as required)

Alignement was not perfect, again fine-tune as required

Before gluing the parts together I enlarged the existing hole so I could insert a 3x1mm magnet. I drilled a little over 2mm deep so the 3x2mm magnet I inserted into component 121 could fit 1mm inside component 120. I did as previously, see around the bottom of page 5 for more details http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350487-mendi-warriors-adeptus-titanicus-project-log/page-5

I then glued the different parts together, paying attention not to glue component 120 so it could still be moved afterwards. I used a clamp to maintain pressure for a few minutes.

I then glued component 122 in place.

Lol, there is hardly a chance to witness that I think. He does look cool but I honestly doubt he would make it to close quarter, it would probably work as a shots magnet (an expensive one) more than anything else.

Today I got a 30 minutes window (my wife running a quick errand so we don't starve tonight) so I quickly base coated a couple things with Leadbelcher (I killed the spray can). Next step will be to tidy up with a brush and then I can start the real work.

  • 2 weeks later...

At last, some progress. I really need to kick myself to speed up things otherwise I'll end up lobotomized :biggrin.:

After spraying with Leadbelcher and tidying up with a brush, I started applying Abaddon Black and some Khorne Red to get the rough shape of flames for my vowed Suturvora Warlord. I'll use Nuln Oil once my base colours are done.

A bit more progress on the head, Abaddon Black as main colour, with rough shape of flames in Khorne Red on the cheeks and Warplock Bronze for the trim, I also used Khorne Red as base for the lenses

Thanks guys! I hope to give a good boost and tackle all the trim later today and this week. But don't hold your breath ...

Painting trim sucks... I've changed my method from sprying yello than painting brass trim to spray brass and paint yellow.... That is how much I hate painting trim...

Yep, it is not my favourite moment when painting, it take ages. I was thinking the same for gold trim, first using the spray (I have no airbrush).

Looking good! I can't wait to see some Surturvora, traitors have the best schemes.

Absolutely! I added a lighter tone of red, now I'll have to fine-tune and add some yellow, time for a more precise brush.

Very slow progress. I painted some trim (much less than I should have) and I added yellow to some armour panels. I think I could do better with a better brush. And also probably best to paint the trim afterwards as I can be messy sometimes. A quick pic of 2 armour panels to give an idea. I think things will look better after a wash or two with red and yellow. As usual feedback more than welcome.

Switching to a size 00 brush yields much better results I think. On the previous picture the two top right panels are also done with the same brush, the rest with an old "Standard" citadel brush, still in relatively good shape.
