Mendi Warrior
Thanks! Good progress with the bases. In the last pic you could see some finer rubbles I added, railroad modelling gravel I bought probably 20+ years ago and that I have finally used for something. I then sprayed the bases with Zandri Dust, touched them up manually with more Zandri Dust and added a few details in Retributor gold. I then proceeded with a heavy drybrush of Ushabti Bone, picked up the details I messed again with Retributor Gold, and added some Warplock Bronze and Leadbelcher on more details (most notably the half door and broken pipes respectively). The Zandri Dust spray melted part of the stairs I had carved in polystyrene, my attempt at covering them with some paint before spraying proving inefficient. Hence I added some textured plasticard to reduce the impact. As the buildings are quite destroyed, this is not too much of a problem but definitely something I need to keep in mind before spraying other things incorporating polystyrene. Picture of the base with Abaddon Black covering the stairs Same base after spraying with Zandri Dust, notice the melted polystyrene and the added textured plasticard. Close-up of the details I picked up with Retributor Armour and Warplock Bronze More bases I then proceeded to drown them with a copious amount of Agrax Earthshade. More soon Achinadav, Cpt. Mendi Warrior
Thanks! I love doing them. I'll give a try to textured paint at some point and I have acquired some baking soda too, this could be handy I think. Mendi Warrior
Thanks a lot! A couple pics of the warhounds from the pledged Axiom maniple. It is a bit dark here today, so the pictures are taken using a flash which tends to flatten some details). I don't have a proper light box unfortunately. Sherrypie
Those bases are just the best. Well done! Â ... but why are some of the thigh armour flames upside down? Mendi Warrior
Thanks!  You have a keen eye  No particular reason except that I didn't checked the thigh armour orientation before painting the flames. I started painting them while still on the sprue. It is only when I glued them in place that I noticed they were painted upside down. Instead of starting over, I reasoned the flames are kind of radiating from the center of the warhounds, at least for the upper thighs and torsos. RipOffProductions
hmm, the bases seem a bit too monochromatic; I understand that you wouldn't want to put to much detail into a base becouse then it would draw atention away from the Titan standing on top of it, but as it is it just looks like a huge ill-defined blob of sandy yellow-brown. maybe make the ground a diffrent color from the biuldings for some contrast? Gamma310
Really do like the flames. They make the Titan pop and are amazingly well painted.  But have to agree on the base. Some second colour and maybee painting the base trims could make them look even better. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350487-mendi-warriors-adeptus-titanicus-project-log/page/13/#findComment-5293387 Share on other sites
RipOffProductions
yeah, there's already a ton of contrast betwen the mostly black titans and the vary bright tan of the base, so a few darker browns or greys here or there, or maybe even just some extra shades applied to the right places would probubly be enough. Mendi Warrior
A bit too monochromatic indeed, and this is accentuated when using a flash. They have more contrasts when seen under daylight but they definitely deserve a bit more. I added some more Agrax Earthshade here and there, I'll see how it improves. Sherrypie
Mm, they would probably benefit from a bit starker contrast between the ground and the buildings. Some darker browns in the dirt and recesses would do wonders to make the shapes more distinct, whereas they currently sort of blend into one. Mendi Warrior
I took the opportunity of a brief moment without clouds to take some pictures using only natural daylight. This is after a more selective second wash of Agrax Earthshade. First a group shot Then the Warhounds' bases The Reavers' bases The Warlord's base Let me know what you think. Chaeron
Bases look incredible Mendi - but I think I'd probably draw on what others have said and really push the contrast if they were mine. I'd be tempted to go for a darker grey for the flatter, ground areas (perhaps Mechanicus Standard or similar, or really darken down with some heavier black/grey washes), and then I'd probably change the gradient on the buildings to be a lighter tone, with a sort of zenithal approach of light to dark to not draw away from the Titans themselves. If you really wanted to push the limits (of patience and all the rest!), you could go for a checkboard floor, but that might be too much! Â Of course, this is what I'd personally do - they really look good - and I think even if you were to paint the rim/lip of the base in black or a dark colour, it'd just help to break up that 'sepia' tone, and help the details (both modelled and painted) to pop. RipOffProductions
also I think the boarded up windows might need some attention for different coloring, sense those would reasonably be made of a different material. Gamma310
To make them look better you could make the flat area look like concrete. just paint it dark grey and then give it a light drybrush. That would already give the base more contrast and would make it look more natural. Mendi Warrior
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate. I have incorporated some of it already and will retain the rest to improve my next bases and maybe these ones at a later stage. I did paint the boarded windows, that is something I should have done earlier as it is really a no brainer and an easy way to add some contrast. I used Skavenblight Dinge. I also painted the rim of the bases with a thin coat of Abaddon Black (I'll most likely add a second one as sometimes it is really thin). I added very diluted Abaddon Black on various spots on the piles of debris, so as to darken them. A dry brush with a lighter tone for the buildings is a good idea. Painting the flat areas as concrete or with a darker ground colour are good ideas too. I love the checkboard floor idea, something I'll definitely do at some point, most likely for flooring inside of a building. I have a few more ideas to add a bit more colour to the bases: banners and some gory casualties (but don't hold your breath). Here are a few pictures of the Warlord's base after the latest iteration, taking opportunity of a nice ray of sun. I'll likely take individual pictures of the other bases later.
