Chaeron
Textured basing works so well - and such ingenuity in building up those crates from all sorts. A big fan of the refinery basing! Made me think whether the larger cranes available for 40k (Servo-haulers etc.) might work for Titan related moving for dioramas or similar - but I don't honestly have a handle on that comparative scale (or if the smaller ones might work!). Mendi Warrior
Thanks! I'm a long way from your place I think I saw someone post pics of a crane made of the servo-haulers a while back, could work with some modifications. Continuing with bases 3 and 4, one to go, left untouched at the moment. They are much simpler than the previous ones. Pine bark works well for making huge rocks. And this one where I'll add two blast craters which I have already roughly outlined with some foamboard. As the Warlord is "running", I have drilled both into the base and its foot so I can pin it into place for better stability. Mendi Warrior
Thanks, one base left then it will be time to add smaller debris and rubbles, then paint them, still a lot of work, but one step after the other I'll get there Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350487-mendi-warriors-adeptus-titanicus-project-log/page/8/#findComment-5225141 Share on other sites

RandomMarine
Mending you are a madman but i love it great work. I've had a couple of forumware 8mm rhinos and bike squads printed for basing had you thought about doing similar to add a bit of "life" to the bases Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350487-mendi-warriors-adeptus-titanicus-project-log/page/8/#findComment-5228891 Share on other sites
Mendi Warrior
This madness is my way to keep some sanity I have no forumware stuff but plenty of the old epic ones. I might add a couple things to give more "life" to the bases (even of they are dead ennemies ). I might also acquire some vanguard minis, Lady Atia has some of their new cybershadows infantry, they look great. Bases are far from complete. As I am currently out of my favourite glue, I switched to painting a few things. I am a very slow painter … and I haven't made a definite choice with regards to colour scheme, although I am giving a try to one involving a lot of black and some red (and some gold for the trims). Chaeron
Looks great Mendi - will be interested to see the contrast with the trim too, but that looks like an awesome potential scheme. Mendi Warrior
I used my brother's dremel to engrave some crevices. I need to acquire a few more brushes for painting fine details, that will help. Chaeron
Very nice continuation Mendi: I think paired with highlighting the black, and doing some additional spot highlighting on the magma channels too, that'll look incredible. (As well as suitably appropriate for either loyalist or traitor tendencies...) Fajita Fan
Legio Magna perhaps? No joke, this was my original plan. I was downloading pictures of lava cracks and lava bases to come up with a paint scheme that looked like that. I decided on white/gold when I realized that I don't actually know how to paint. It never occurred to me to simply engrave the cracks to make it easier to paint... Mendi Warrior
Thanks guys! Legio Magna served as inspiration, combined with Legio Audax "cracked lava designs", but it is not Audax as this legio is exclusively using warhounds. With regards to tendencies, the following pic gives a hint (but they are not glued yet ) I did a test adding some gold, it is just the base colour, and I am dreading the miles of trim to paint to be honest but I'll do them eventually Going a bit further, I added some yellow (maybe a bit too much at some places) Still very much a work-in-progress but I do like the results so far, they could be improved of course. Engraving the cracks seemed the best idea, I got it after viewing countless pictures of actual lava and lava bases. I even thought of using one of the cracked textured paints but I am pretty sure it would fall off so I engraved. Maybe even better would be to add some greenstuff for a coarser aspect, then engave the cracks. Maybe I'll try it someday. I think it's really sensible - you then get proper channels and runnels, so I think that's just a logical way of doing inverse trim! The good thing if you do think it's too yellow in places, is a red/orange wash will take that down and help to blend it back - I'd also be tempted (personally) to do some very bright spots, white or yellow, just for those extreme highlights for where it might be hottest, if carefully placed. I've seen others use crackle medium (for other projects) and I think from memory a Titan elsewhere, but I definitely see the potential for that, and the thought of that being more of a 'living' Titan, as it sloughs off the old 'skin' and regrows etc. And of course, Lupercal! Mendi Warrior
I have some white scar ready for adding on a few select spots. The red/orange wash is a great idea, something to add to my next list of purchases (carroburg crimson is too dark I think). Yes, I think I have seen that titan (28mm) as well. Engraving took some time, the "worst" part is making sure the channels and runnels are deep enough without going through the plastic, definitely room for improvement there. After engraving and painting with Abaddon Black, I added Khorne Red in the cracks Then, I added Wild Rider Red Then Flash Gitz Yellow Work-in-progress on a few more armour panels Edited January 6, 2019 by Mendi Warrior General Zodd, Dr_Ruminahui, Grotsmasha and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350487-mendi-warriors-adeptus-titanicus-project-log/page/8/#findComment-5229601 Share on other sites
General Zodd
@Mendi Warrior, I personally think the yellow looks great! If you’re looking for opinions, I wouldn’t tone down the yellow at all, unless it looks markedly different in person, the high contrast between the lava cracks and the black look really good, in my opinion. How are you highlighting the black? Or are you leaving it a flat colour for the lava to show better? Mendi Warrior
Thanks! Yes, definitely, feedback is gold, all opinions are welcome. I think they even look better in person than on the pictures. This said, there are a few spots that might warrant some toning down. With regards to the black, I was thinking of leaving it a flat colour for the contrast. As I sometimes splashed some red and yellow paints outside of the cracks (which are pretty narrow), I am planning to touch up a bit with black. Maybe I would add a second colour, likely a very dark grey (not sure which would be best), between the cracks. I'll have to start the gold trims … the task seems pretty daunting With the armour panels done and the few not pictured, I have enough for an Axiom maniple. Then I'll need to find a name for the Legio and the war engines themselves. Gore Crow
Those panels look great! Can't wait to see them with the trims. I reckon they would make a good alternative look for Legio Surturvora. Mendi Warrior
Thanks! I did paint some trims (going with small painting sessions for gold trim), far from finished … Then I put some of the panels on the body of one of my Warlords (they are not glued yet) Edit: lol just noticing now I put one armour panel upside down at the time of the picture, glad they are not glued Same for a Warhound (with a first touch of gold trim) and a Reaver and a quick picture of the titans together (except one which doesn't stand yet it will soon be time to get them off the dining table (unless I want to witness another Titandeath by my wife's hand ) Edited January 7, 2019 by Mendi Warrior Chaeron, Allart01 and Reyner 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/350487-mendi-warriors-adeptus-titanicus-project-log/page/8/#findComment-5230011 Share on other sites
