Jolemai
I'll go into more detail with an article on the main board soon, but the idea/theme for this list is for two threats buffed to the hilt (and with enough synergy/chaff from the supporting elements to pull it off). This was supposed to be theoretical, but I actually had a game with it this other night on the spur of the moment (report arrive soonTM). Jolemai
Basically, what I'm looking at here is two heavy hitting units and these can be anything: for example, it could be any two from DC, SG, TDA, VAS. Lynnean
Wouldn't the angel's wings be more usefull on your thammer captain? Besides that, i think termies are overpriced for what they deliver. What do you think about a second sanguinary guard squad instead? Jolemai 1 Back to top
Jolemai
Wouldn't the angel's wings be more usefull on your thammer captain? Besides that, i think termies are overpriced for what they deliver. What do you think about a second sanguinary guard squad instead? I don't have enough SG for two squads and I'm trying hard not to proxy stuff these days... In theory, taking Terminators (or rather, something different from SG) gives me another option - another threat for the enemy to counter. I may end up dropping them sooner rather than later though. The theory behind the relic elsewhere is it gives me more flexibility. Say I eanty Captain to harass a flank but the SG blob to do the heavy lifting - then I need the relic there to help it land home. It also gives me to option of doing a tag team if the Captain needs a boost (or some health in the case of a Priest). Perhaps it's a hangover from an earlier list and I may give the Captain it at some point, but I'm happy enough with the current setup.
Lynnean
Fair enough. The relic part is well thought out and makes sense. As an enemy i'd start shooting SG over terminators any day, but that might be me haha. What about a threat like death company? Too squishy in comparison? Oh of course, but it's still a threat to be dealt with. They will also delete a unit when they arrive from teleport with their stratagem. tbh I had visions of them moving up the centre with the foot Characters but they are so much more useful babysitting the Devastators! If/when I drop them I may try out Sternguard in a Drop Pod, or VAS/DC The latter two both have their own plus points but are they too samey as the SG? DC would burn through 2 CP for a T1 charge (plus two more to get the Angel's Wing into range if needed) - in which case I might need to address who it goes on VAS with storm shields would offer target saturation, or I could use them independently as I do my TDA currently. Hmmm... i hadn't thought about using the defensively, only balls to the walls deepstrike True on the CP cost of DC, but theyll eat through the opponent in my experience. The Vanguards i still need to build my self as well, so can't really comment on those. Although they look very nice on paper. The "samey" feel of SG is kind of the point why i'd bring them. The opponent will feel the same, then focus on one of the two, which in turn leaves the other to do their job. I might be kind of tunnelvisioning on that though haha Jolemai 1 Back to top

It did, however, reinforce my belief that I'm now playing my SG the correct way and that I need to know how to do my Bikes and Scouts better. What I need to learn is how to dictate the play more with this force. Dolchiate Remembrancer 1 Back to top

Jolemai
My record here is, I think, W:5 D:0 L:3 which I'm happy enough with but I wasn't satisfied after my last game (yes it was post-FAQ but that wasn't the problem). I was up against a Guard force with the the non-Smash Captain list and basically, whilst I lived with it for two turns, I crumbled T3 and had to concede. What I'm finding here (and something I've found at other points levels I play) is that I run out of steam, primarily because I'm not doing enough damage at the start. Therefore, I'm considering a tweak to double Battalion to bring in a Smash Captain in addition to everything else (at the expense of a Devastator Squad and my bikes)... and a few other tweaks: 2000 "Troop Spam" TAC list v1.4 Blood Angels Battalion Detachment HQ Captain ~ Thunderhammer, stormshield, jump pack ~ Angels Wing Lieutenant ~ Storm bolter, power fist ~ Veritas Vitae Troops Scouts (5) ~ Sniper rifle, chainsword ~ Sniper rifle (4) Tactical Squad (5) ~ Bolter, chainsword ~ Lascannon Tactical Squad (5) ~ Bolter, chainsword ~ Plasma cannon Heavy Support Devastator Squad (5) ~ Armorium Cherub ~ Bolter (3) ~ Missile Launcher ~ Heavy bolter Devastator Squad (5) ~ Armorium Cherub ~ Bolter (3) ~ Missile launcher ~ Heavy bolter Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought ~ Two twin lascannons Blood Angels Battalion Detachment HQ Librarian ~ Bolter, force stave, jump pack ~ Unleash Rage, Shield of Sanguinius, Smite Sanguinary Priest ~ Boltgun, chainsword, jump pack Troops Scouts (6) ~ Bolter, power sword ~ Combat blade (4) ~ Shotgun (1) Scouts (6) ~ Bolter, powersword ~ Combat blade (4) ~ Shotgun (1) Scouts (5) ~ Stormbolter, chainsword ~ Bolter (3) ~ Shotgun (1) Fast Attack Attack bike (1) ~ Heavy bolter Blood Angels Vanguard Detachment HQ Astorath ~ Warlord Elites Company Ancient ~ Bolter Terminator Squad (6) ~ Storm bolter, power sword ~ Assault cannon, power fist ~ Storm bolter power fist (3) ~ Storm bolter, chainfist (1) Sanguinary Ancient ~ Angelus boltgun, power fist, death mask ~ Standard of Sacrifice Sanguinary Guard (6) ~ Angelus boltgun, power fist (3) ~ Angelus boltgun, encarmine sword (2) ~~ Angelus boltgun, power axe (1) Assassin Thoughts, options, musings With an Assassin and three relics, that's 9 CP to play with (DVoS, hellfire, flakk, WoA, re-roll are the big ones). Hopefully it's not too small an amount Warlord either Captain (GoF/AoW) or Astorath (Soulwarden). If it's the former, at least my SG still get re-rolls! Contemptor (using Wisdom of Ancients), Lieutenant, Ancient babysit the Devastators and the Tacticals Smash does his thing, the rest of the jump packers move up behind the Scouts (or where needed) Sticking with the Terminators as that's the dual threat part of the list (alongside the SG). They often delete something on arrival but they die so quickly! Assassin to give me some more oomph and flexibility where necessary Astorath can be switched for The Sanguinor at the cost of the Attack Bike and some gear on the Lieutenant, however, considering I often end up using the Sanguinor like a Smash Captain with relic blade, Astorath may be better. Also, he can buff with Mass of Doom before he moves away from the bubble.
Lynnean
Still not a fan of the termies. Vanguard veterans with stormshields might be alot scarier IMO. Not sure if you have those modeled or no though haha. Also: what about standard of sacrifice? Since youre troop heavy, might that not be more valuable then the veritas? Jolemai
Thanks for the comment Lynnean :) I still haven't got any VAS modelled up and I do have the Standard of Sacrifice on the Sanguinary Ancient. Perhaps I should consider dropping my Terminators near that rather than go for targets of opportunity... Jolemai
One thing I'm really not happy with is the Shield of Sanguinius here as it's wasted on the Sanguinary Guard most of the time (AP-4/5 weapons see to always go elsewhere) and casting it on something else (Scouts, Librarian himself, whatever) doesn't seem to do much of note. What would be a decent alternative?
keeblerartillery
I think that quickening or wings are our two strongest powers. I would go with either or those over shield. Lynnean 1 Back to top
