Brother Talarian
Brothers, How do you model your Company Veterans in good Templar fashion? Sword Brother kits with other bits? (What I’m leaning towards) I want them to look epic, and stick out on the battlefield and not just use Vanguard Vets. That said, that’s another option but I like tabards and cloaks. This is one of the aspects that drew me to BT to begin. Show me your conversions, show me your zeal. Could be an interesting thread for CV conversions and the like. As an aside, where does one get extra backpacks? I have 10 VV but no option for a backpack :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/ Share on other sites
Cognative
Here's a few of mine https://imgur.com/0vgo0l8 BT upgrade kits, various power weapons and helms from VV, AM, SV etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5210744 Share on other sites
Acebaur
Just give them extra bling and use Sword Brethren colors is what I do to set them apart. They also get a larger proportion of cool helmets and pads. Ebay is a great way to pick up extra backpacks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5210752 Share on other sites
Kontakt
Vanguard veterans without their jump packs is a decent way to make sword brethren. With the new formations, I have ordered another box to make up more. The ones I have already were my Honour Guard in 6th and 7th. Ray_K
I use chaos bitz. Khorne 'zerker and Chaos Marine bitz (shaved of any offending heraldry) are SUPER Templar-ish. Greaves, gauntlets, bolts, skulls, and whatnot all fit in and look "Knightly". My average Templar squad is a cluster of bitz from Templar Upgrade sprue, Khorne 'zerkers, and Chaos Marines. Sounds expensive, but it's really not since you're actually using all of the bitz.. so you're still getting three or four super knightly old-school badass space knight squads. CantusMaximGloria
I've got my chapter champion done up with the chaos warrior legs and then added what I felt like are typical Templar heraldic devices on him. You can never go wrong if you double down on the knightly and gothic influences. Pic of my Champion Also, grab a Grey Knight Paladins kit, can't go wrong with all that wonderful sword/knightly gear, plus the actual armor is pretty good to! I know that bits of war has some great conversion fodder and backpacks as well. Ciler
This is not specific for my company veterans but for all sword brethren :Tabards or chests, helmets, fancy shoulder pads and weapons from the upgrade sprue, legs from the veteran kits (vanguard or sternguard as available), as much bling as possible (purity or crusader seals) + my trademark capes. - - - Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5210916 Share on other sites
tvih
For melee company veterans I'd indeed use the resin Sword Brethren. I already have two kits of them and I magnetize options as much as possible anyway. It's easy enough to give them different weapons. However, personally I actually don't see much point in melee-based infantry Company Veterans because Vanguard can run bigger units and even the new sword brethren stratagems are pretty worthless, while the points costs and statlines for the units are the same. Veterans would only really be for special shooty weapons spam. I'll admit though, it'd be funny to do a squad of four with storm shields (since they're only 2 points in the new CA) and shooty weapons. Not that it'd be particularly cost-effective. AlmightyWalrus
Storm Bolter/Chainsword Company Vets are only 16 PPM now and get 4 shots and 3 attacks each. That's pretty cheap for that output. tvih
Good point, I actually didn't notice the base point drop. Against many targets storm bolter is about as good as sternguard with their special bolters, and the chainsword would give them a slight edge in CC. I guess it could be worth trying. I'd need to paint up more special weapons in any case, especially now with the point drops. I do have some combi-weapons (since they are now fairly pointless for sternguard), but not so much storm bolters or meltas and plasma guns. Running MSU lists as I generally do, I could put 5 shooty vets with a 5-man crusader squad into a shared Rhino to get them to the front lines. AlmightyWalrus
In my experience the SB/Chainsword Vets were already one of our best units, limited by their small squad size and the fact that you only get 3 squads. Them being made cheaper is very welcome. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5211010 Share on other sites
Marshal Vespasian
I still have the old metal kit. Guess I will have to See what I can do with a saw and greenstuff. Handswaps should be doable so I will propably go for shield and energy axe. Also I have sternguard legs from eBay, on these I will put spellcrow templar torsos and helmets and then magnetize arms. Plus cloaks. I am also thinking of getting two bike kits and 3rd party lances for a marshal plus 5 lancers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5211017 Share on other sites

SydonianDragoon404
Now that I have a reason to paint mine, Ill be able to show off my vets using the Dreamforge games Valkir Assault Troopers models in the coming weeks. Brother Talarian
Thanks for sharing guys. Ciler, what are your trademark capes you speak of? GS such as here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JBuEv0z4EC8 I might need to GS some tabards over the VV chests... those straps need to be covered. Did you all get cloaks from spellcrow? tvih
The SB kit is awesome, but holds one unredeemable flaw to me, no helmets... Not too difficult to carve out resin heads. Come to think of it I actually might contemplate doing that for the unpainted batch to make them slightly different from the first batch beyond just weapons. Marshal Vespasian
So how are you guys going to transport your sword brethren onto the field of battle? I am thinking of either a unit of five with a Chaplain in a razorback with either assault canon or lascannon+Plasma or a drop pod. Then maybe Chaplain plus sword brethren plus apothecary and whatever points are left. Or two units in a drop pod Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5212583 Share on other sites
Cognative
I only play fluffy games with my Templar nowadays, so it's going to be all land Raiders all the time when it comes to transportation Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352203-company-veterans-modeling/#findComment-5212669 Share on other sites
Marshal Rohr
I'm looking at 2x8 Sword Brethren and 6x Indomitus that can pull double duty as Heresy and 40k Sword Brethren. Firepower
Yup, sorta the sticking point on the formation for a lot of people. That said, it can be used on Veteran Bikers as well as they share the same keyword. Overall it's not a huge game changer, but worth whipping up 10 Vets for giggles. As for how to build them, basically all of my marines are kitbashes. Grey Knights, Berzerkers, Angels, Templars, Vanilla, Wolves, a dash of Forgeworld...pretty much any power armor kit has useful bits.
