Is The Emperor's Champion worth taking instead of ToT Marshal?

Why not both?

Well honestly, I'd like to take HIgh Marshal, Grimaldus and EC. But Vanguard has only 2 HQ slots. And i don't really want to take Battalion because of Troops tax. And for role of expendable troops i can field an Imperial Guard Brigade with artillery support in 1500 pts game where i'm going to have only 2 detachments. That's why not both.

In all honeslty I wouldn’t take Grim and Helbrect in the same list. Grim is for Black Tide and Helbrect is for Elite/Sword Brothern. And even more honestly, between our troops (Crusaders, Intercessors And Scouts) they aren’t really taxes. At worse just take 3 Faux Devi Crusaders, HvyBolter Or GravCannon/Plasma/Plasma for 97 or 115 points each.

Champion/Marshall or HighMarshall/3 Faux Devi’s. Take 3 Sword Brothern, and throw one of the Faux Devi’s into the Pod.

Well u wrote my first list for 8th. And I've committed to building it. 3 squads of 5 vets, all sword and board except the sergeant is hammer and shield. (I'm not worried about meta... Which if I tell you the rest of the list you'll see how un-meta it is... Lol

Hah, that was easy. To be honest a list consisting of mainly Sword&Board vets was my to-buy list for my Blood Angels successor Knights of Blood in 7th even tho they were terrible back then. Then 8th rolls around and they looked a lot better crunch-wise but GW also released Primaris which looked a lot better model-wise to me so I never got around building such a list for real.

take 3 HQs, 3 Elite-Slots and 3x scouts for 55pts each... so you have the  CPs you need for the stratagems ;)

I have my 5 storm shield and power sword vets based and ready to be used ! Very excited.

me too,... but just the first 5 of 15^^

Me three, check out my crusade thread for details **cough**shameless plug**

Scouts? What is that?

Dunno? Sounds like heresy to me.

Neophytes who failed in their duty as meat shields...

I thought that those who failed die. But let's not derail the discussion any further.

What i saw when i first read the rules of Sword Brethren was Helbrecht accompanied by 5 and 4 SS+Sword Company veterans in some non-Raider transport . But now i think of Helbrecht+Emperors Champion+Company Champion+Apothecary(or two or none)+5 cheap Сompany Veterans as ablative wounds in drop pod as an elite big game hunetrs.

Cosidering sheilds, i made some of spare transport doors. Hm... And i still have a lot of those doors.

How about Sword Brethren on bikes with Storm Bolters and Shields? Sure, it's 180 for 5, but you get 40 shots in Rapid Fire range, you get T5 W2 3++ and the option to give them 5+ FNP, and you don't use up one of the three foot Sword Brethren slots.

I think Bikers can't be selected for the Detachment/Stratagems.

They have the company veterans keyword, so they can be selected for the Sword Brethren detachment/strategem.

They have the company veterans keyword, so they can...but they would still count against your three units since technically, they are simply company vets taking bikes as an upgrade.

They wouldn't count against the 3 because they are a separate datasheet.

Gonna play this list tomorrow at my local store. I went for Thunder Hammers rather than Fists on my Sword Brethren because I had some points left over and because stuff like Meganobz, i.e. 3 or more wounds, are fairly common in my meta, so the reliability of static 3 damage vs. d3 really makes a difference.

Obviously a mix of optimization and stuff I had at hand. I'd get Storm Shields for the Sword-wielding Sword Brethren, but I don't have any more lying around. Sigismash on the bike as Warlord for the Vigilus warlord trait. Grimaldus goes in one Razorback, the Champion in the other and Helbrecht goes in the LRC. I've got some flexibility with my Sword Brethren and Crusader Squads as I can mix and match between the two Razorbacks and the LRC as needed depending on what I'm fighting; the Crusader Squads really appreciate the rerolls from Helbrecht, but the Sword Brethren obviously benefit more from the +1 S.
