Dusktiger
This will be my thread for tracking progress on the painting event vow i've made. In the vow, i aim to complete 20 Intercessors 5 Hellblasters 2 Company Veterans a Redemptor Dreadnought 3 Aggressors a counts-as Pedro Kantor a Whirlwind by March 2nd, 2019. For Dorn, Terra, and the Emperor! here's the initial shot from making the vow on Jan 2nd, minus 10 intercessors that are in the mail. Dusktiger
Here's the progress made so far in the first few days: My first squad of 5 intercessors. This one's just normal Bolt Rifles, which i'm doing up with black gun casings. And here's the 2nd squad. These ones have Stalker Bolt Rifles, which i painted with red gun casings. I wanted the different rifles to look more different than what the default kits look like. So to start with, i extended the barrel length. Then i decided i needed a way to make it easy to pick them out from across the table as well, and painting the casings red, gave them red face plates, and the bolter shell decal to mark them out as marksmen. The arrows will be painted over in red like the other squad once fully set. At this point, i'm considering painting the gun casings based on the weapon type; rapid fire black, heavy red, assault blue. Just to help associate them better since the designs dont differ quite enough to stand out for myself and my opponent across the table. and here's the hellblasters so far. And my Primaris Captain. The Aggressors. The Redemptor Dreadnought. My Counts-as Pedro Kantor. wanted him a little bigger than normal, plus the LGS didnt have one in stock. lastly, the company veterans. I haven't made up my mind if i want to make the armless one have a storm shield and power maul, or a combi-plasma and chainsword. Pearson73
That's quite the list to get done for March, looks like you're off to a good start though! I like the red faceplates of the Stalker squad. cretacianborn
Loving the shade of blue you've got on your models dude, is that Kantor Blue or a different paint? Seems nice and dark, almost purple. Also, I think this has inspired me to pledge a vow to Dorn too! Doghouse
I'm a huge fan of the Crimson Fists and these are looking nice. I like the marking on the studded shoulder pad, that and the other markings like the campaign ones are really nice little touches. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352919-crimson-fists-omdfrd-painting-event-blog/#findComment-5230707 Share on other sites
Dusktiger
thanks, i've been enjoying how they look so far with the decals, especially taking the time to paint the squad markings red. i should point out at this point that i wont be doing any edge highlighting on these guys either, except maybe on big models like the dread and whirlwind. This is because i'm very near-sighted, so the effect is completely lost on me on the table, so its pointless spending the extra time and effort for something i just can't see. I'll have some more photos this weekend of the progress i've made; so far i've been doing the squad markings on the stalker intercessors and the heavy hellblasters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352919-crimson-fists-omdfrd-painting-event-blog/#findComment-5231169 Share on other sites
Dusktiger
small update, got the metallics and eye lenses done on my stalker rifle squad. The photos have trouble showing it, but the lenses are lamenter yellow over a silver base. Dusktiger
Weekly update time. got my last 10 intercessors and upgrade sprues in the mail this week, and assembled a squad with Auto Bolt Rifles. did a few changes on this one, to make them stand out more. The obvious stuff first, the heads. No helmets, and chose the faces that looked more aggressive for these guys. The guns themselves have also been altered some to stand out more as well; the picatinny rails were removed, the iron sights were shortened, the fiddly bits above and below the barrels were removed, and the eyeholes for a sling were taken off. Then i added flashlights under the guns on the ones i could. i got one more to make for the knife guy. Knife guy also had some chop n' swap done to his knife arm to stretch the arm back to better match his stance, and the grenade launcher had his arm altered so he'd one-hand the gun. that also required chopping out the left hand and replacing that grip with one from a rifle that was already meant to be one-handed. below are some shots of the individual guys. Dusktiger
another progress update. work's been coming along on the last 10 intercessors. started the blue armour on the Auto Bolt Rifle unit, and assembled and primed the 5 that will count as veteran intercessors when i field an indomitus crusade list: the veteran unit will have both hands, and their helmets painted red, and have been given tilt shields as additional decoration. im thinking i might do the shields blue with a red stripe or something. and here's the infantry as a whole: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352919-crimson-fists-omdfrd-painting-event-blog/#findComment-5238265 Share on other sites

Dusktiger
another weekly update on my progress. After looking at them all in their blue armour, i decided that i'd paint all the guns with red casings in order to add a little extra spot color to the army as a whole. So far, seeing the red guns along with the deep blue just looks more visually appealing than the black guns. Dusktiger
and now, apart from some decals, another 2 squads are completed: the lighting wasnt very helpful in showing it, but this one i took a bit more effort in layering his skin to make the details show more: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352919-crimson-fists-omdfrd-painting-event-blog/#findComment-5247488 Share on other sites
