Primaris Vanguard

Or, my favourite idea, if GW would give them a special rule that forces the enemy to make a successfull LD test to be able to fall back (which would synergize wonderfully with their LD debuff) they'd gain a new role as actual backfield harasser without increasing their damage output so they could do more than just trying to reach a contested objective.

Love this idea!

Yup, Panzer has a valid point. On top of that, don't forget there is a FAQ regarding entering play and then moving again with warptime, which says you can't and it should apply to this as well.

Oops. I was unaware of that. Oh well

I like the idea of the Phobos Lieutenant running around with them for rerolls of wounds, but wish he had a grapple so he could keep up with them. We use a lot of tall terrain at the FLGS, so grapples are valuable for me.

Thread Necro!

We are getting the Vanguard multipose re-lease with new stuff to-boot!

In reading the News thread, I feel like I am the only person that actually likes the Exosuit? The idea that we are going to get an infiltrating/DS Denial walker seems SO cool to me. He's a big boi (base wise) so he will cast out a decent bubble. He will likely be T6 and a 3+ save. I'm expecting him to be significantly faster than other Dread chassis (10"+ Movement).
While I am not a fan of the stubbers, assuming he is "cheap" (~100 points), and if he doesn't occupy the elites slot (Fast Attack pleeeease), I think he will be great. If he can deny deep strike and then mow-down some screens to tie up a critical unit turn one, he will be a very welcome addition to lists.

Were getting new gear on the Infiltrators, hopefully they get a tad cheaper too!

Lastly, it looks like we are getting our own book!

Secretly I am hoping it will be one of the last of the 6, so it coincides with some sort of Primaris-Jump/CC units.

Primaris Shrike - take me home boys!

How do y'all feel about the release?

I love the walker with over minor quip: not a fan of the cockpit.

I feel like the marine is sitting too upright and would love to have seen his feet out front a bit more, even better if they were manipulating controls.

I also think a closed cockpit would look better and I'm toying with ideas for using clear plasticard to put a HUD in there.

I love all the newly teased releases so far!
Especially the tacti dread with holstered heavy bolter pistol :lol

Even the grav rhino looks pretty neat

I'm really hoping for a Primaris Shrike too.... that would be amazing!

I'm also tempted to buy the LE main codex and RG supplement.... I wish it wasn't the exact time I was moving too though funds are tight :ermm:

Everyone upset about the cockpit not being up-armored to me are being silly - it makes significantly more sense for it to be open like it is. I am 100% in agreement with you in terms of how he is sitting/mounted in it - that does look a bit goofy. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish with some lexan/clear plastic over the cockpit. For mine I think I might just cut out half the roll-cage and make it even more open.

The walker will be awesome with a couple personal tweaks, hopefully the launcher on top will have some other options as well with it. Table wise it has potential.

Im also loving all the antennas on the vanguard kits.

With regards to the launcher - my first couple thoughts were:

1) Smoke launcher - maybe something stronger like the Supressor Sgt's wording (he could smoke a unit) or the like

2) Some sort of Grenade/Rocket pack that gives Ignore-LOS fire would be sweet

Legit no lie, I think for this release I will be buying (or attempt to - 800 copies seems small):

  1. LE Codex Space Marines
  2. LE Codex Supplement Raven Guard
  3. I might even buy regular copies of both to "use" so as to keep my LE copies for collecting - oh my the money spent on books

I wonder if the touch of having 10 Markers (one for Each Company) is indicative of a change to Maelstrom of War in the future?

I have to agree with your point 3 it has crossed my mind...
Although I might start using a tablet for gaming and have an ecopy on there instead... this is tbd...

I certainly wouldn't want to destroy a nice LE book going to tournaments though :ermm:

Had a chance to properly read the release

Sounds like RG will get their on psychic discipline too! And the LE dice look pretty neat and they're square sided... might have to get a few blocks of them

I wonder what the litanies of battles are?

Regarding the tablet: I have been thinking the same. I have a fear if I go that route, the technology will load slower/be more frustrating than a paper/hard copy. I have done a little research into iOS v Android v Fire and I haven't found answers I like.

Indeed I am stoked for us getting some sort of "Shadowmancy/Ravenmancy" discipline. Imagine a Phobos libby with that and the Obscuration Discipline - mmmm soo good.

First guess for Litanies of Battle:

  1. Some sort of FNP Aura
  2. Some sort of "Attack back on death" aura in CC like the Wulfen have
  3. Some sort of offesnive Fear-Causing (Minus LD Aura) debuff
  4. Reroll ALL hits in CC buff (hopefully bigger than 6" to make it more distinguished from a Captain)

As much as I'd love to jump on the LE codex I just don't think they make sense (for me). It's something that will be pretty and look amazing but in a few years it'll be taking up space on the bookshelf and be obsolete for the game. Also at 800 I think it will be very difficult to get any and I would imagine the price tag is around upwards of $150.

I agree that armor would be not make sense given the role, I was specifically thinking of a canopy all around. I do like the idea of cutting out the roll cage. Looking at the model again I think cutting out the two bottom thirds and putting a canopy with a HUD at head level would be pretty cool and work well with the 'scout' walker concept.

I've used the epubs / mobi before if you have a decent reader they're not terrible

You can also bookmark pages for quick reference

The Apple ones are nice with their interactive format, but at that price I'd rather just buy the book

This has got me pumped to paint some more marines! :D

Unfortunately I likely can't with the pending move

Whining isn’t going to help but what the *bleep* is it with all the stubbers on Primaris equipment? I don’t hate them but I don’t love them either. Primaris aren’t lacking in good dakka, so hard to see this walker as a must buy.

As opposed to the not-Whispercutter which hopefully are pointed low enough I’ll be buying at least 2 of. :)

Yea, agreed. Stubbergate has got me tilted as well. It just feels so pedestrian:\

I'm loving most of the new Vanguard stuff. The new walker is cool (particularly with the heavy bolter 'pistol') and the new Infiltrators look badass.

However, the leaping Phobos LT looks a bit goofy, and the new Eliminators who don't have proper control of their weapons look a bit amateurish. I'll still buy some, assuming the can look more like they're shooting rather than chilling out.

I'm also pretty stoked by these new rules and models. I'm particularly interested by the lasfusils (still no pics dammit!) and the comm thingy for infiltrator. Looks like they'll get another specialist to add to the squad. I wonder if we'll be limited to either one of them or if two can be added to the same squad.

The infiltrating exosuit is... weird. I'm not sold on the model itself, but I really like the tactical possibilities. Also crossing my fingers for a Monstrous Creature statline and not a vehicle one - it would make more sense IMO.

I was thinking about this today as well. If it turns out to be a Monster or Infantry Keyword and not a Vehicle that would help greatly with the recent CT changes. Kinda hoping that's the case.

Is there anything that we can compare it to in others armies to try and make an intelligent guess? I know Admech has their walkers (dragoons?) and the guard have sentinels. I'm not sure what key words those units have though and I don't have Battle Scribe at work.

AdMech have an open-topped tank and an enclosed one, with identical stats/rules, just -1T for the open-topped. Same with guard - Chimera chassis is T7 when enclosed, T6 open-topped (some artillery tanks), no different keywords. The open-topped NotRedemptor could work essentially the same way, -1T and that's it.

My theory is that the launcher on top of the new walker is going to be similar to the Cerebus Launcher on the Land Speeder Storm from previous editions. I miss zooming in, laying down those pie plates, and informing my opponent that units hit now only hit on 6s. Perhaps this will be a support flash bang type weapon, that bestows -1 to hit on units hit by it. I want that for my Land Speeder Storms and their Cerebus Launcher. -1 to hit over the whole army may be gone, but support weapons that bestow -1 to hit are far less broken. It would be a good compromise.
