Just out of curiosity do public libraries in the UK have 3d printers?  We do in the US and it's usually very cheap to print, my library system does them for free but you only get one per file per week.  Those pieces are free straight from Thingiverse so I hope you didn't pay too much for them.

It’s not something I’ve come across, but a quick search shows that at least a couple of areas have started offering 3D printing at public libraries, but it’s not wide spread (or at least not widely advertised). I’m in Belfast, and there are a few places that offer 3D printing at makers’ spaces, though. TBH, I don’t have a huge amount of hobby time, so I’m happy to pay a premium for someone else to do the hard work for me!

I printed a few pieces from Thingiverse then sprayed them flat black. The buildings are meant to be hangers but the door is too small, they’ll serve as warehouses though. Another possibility would be to pin the roofs on rather than glue them so they could serve as a fence which models could walk through.

The tanks got a coat of Averland, I may print a few more of these for scatter terrain.

What color should I do the warhouses?  Red?  Drab green?  I like yellow for the tanks, I'll do some leaks and stains on there and maybe I should do some forklifts.  Is there any art somewhere for Mechanicum or Imperial ground loaders?  I guess different planets can freely do their own thing.

I've got some little statues queued up to print tomorrow along with some more fountains.  My goal is to use a little 5x7 clipboard to make a walled garden amidst an industrial/civilian hab block.  I love the idea of tiny green spaces crammed into a heavily industrialized zone, maybe I need to make that a governor's tower or something?

I would go for a mix of colours, maybe a dark tone, grey for instance, for the walls, rusty red for the doors and roof > photoshop and play with different colours to get a first idea.

Eager to see the statues and fountains!

Governor's tower as some green space is a luxury not for the laborious masses :biggrin.:

Stingers are static light anti-aircraft units that can be deployed almost anywhere. Consisting of a cruciform base mounting a weapons pedestal and operators catwalk, they provide low altitude anti-aircraft defence in the field as well as at military installations.

The most common weapons mounted are either twin heavy machine guns or twin light auto-cannon but other types of weapons are employed also.

Set consists of:

10 x Desert Stingers in two variants.

Ive proposed to Vanguard Miniatures to either modify my tank designs as wrecks or use miscasts for that. They reacted positively to that idea, but that hasn't translated into action yet. :(

As for corpses, I am planning on doing a few corpses of heavily armoured Skinners, I guess those could be used as dead Mega Armoured Nobs? I hope to get access to the stls of the upcoming Mk2 Novan Elites as well so they could be turned into corpses.

Time will tell...

I take for granted having access to a free 3d printer but one of things I'd like to make (now that buildings and industrial piping are available in plastic) are things very civilian-oriented like parks, gardens, pools, fountains, city squares, and courtyards.  Some of the most horrifying and striking images from the first and second world wars are the ones where soldiers are dug into very obviously civilian areas.

Also now that the story of AT is progressing it might cool to see shrines or monuments dedicated to chaos as those would start appearing now.  I'm trying to use 40k plastic but sometimes there are very obvious things molded in there to denote scale like skulls.  That might be hard for a 3rd party mini designer as you can't use their IP directly but spikes are not copyrighted...

Im pondering about what other small terrain bits to design. Any suggestions?

Something that you could make LOTS of on a small budget would be varying sized rock formations.

Get a sheet of closed cell construction foam and either a hot cutter or very sharp set of knives and you can build enough for a whole table.

For rocks, you can also get a bag of pine bark for gardening, it is dirt cheap. Just be sure to dry them and clean them as they are typically coming damp and with a lot of dust and micro-organisms. I prepared some during a very hot summer, outside, cleaning them with an old toothbrush and leaving them to dry in the sun.
