My Order of the Bloody Rose (Comic Book / Cel Shaded)

Hey All,

I am playing in a cities of death narrative campaign* with my brother, and a few others, and have decided that I need to step up my painting and modeling game. So I started repainting my sisters as Order of the Bloody Rose. I am currently working towards 1000 pts. I am hoping to start posting my side of our battle reports, starting with the next game in the campaign.

Here is my first finished squad, a BSS with two flamers, called Red Squad:

Here is my work-in-progress Knight Amirger who accompanies them, named the Knight of Roses:

Not the greatest group shot, but this is the planned 1000 pts.

Any comments and/or criticisms are appreciated! Thanks!

The lighter red shade seems to work particularly well, its feels a bit more 'realistic' than the harsher and brighter reds can sometimes can. The white highlights give an almost comic noir vibe - very good job I'd say.

I'm considering a bloody rose theme myself, seeing yours lighter red shade may have sold it for me!

I was going through all my unpainted models this morning, and realized I had quite a few Sister Retributors unbuilt. Man, once I put the heavy flamer on them and the backpack, I realized that I really liked the model.

So, I am going to try and rework my 1000 pt list, and see if I can fit in a retributor squad, or at the very least, a single heavy flamer.

My Retributor Squad is going to be 'Green Squad, AKA The Crypt Cleaners', and will be a 10-woman squad with 4 heavy flamers, a simulcrum, and I think I have an extra combi-flamer Superior. They probably won't make it into my 1000 pt list that I am working on, but if I ever run a 1250 or 1500 (They definitely need a Repressor for that!), they will do well.

I will be the first to admit that her leg got a little away from me, but I think she turned out alright, especially if you're looking from three feet away, haha. As always, comments and criticisms are appreciated!

The extreme highlighting style is just not aesthetically appealing to me but that being said you did a good job on it and I bet they stand out very well on a tabletop.  Comic-book style definitely achieved; you should be proud of that work!

As a last point I really like the face on the retributor in the last post; you've made the detail in the face really pop out.

Thanks!! I decided to go hyper vibrant and Comic-booky with the Bloody Rose since my old Order of the Martyred Lady always seemed to just blend into the table.

Love the infantry- especially the highlights on the purple fabric.

The walkers are both very well painted, but I could have used more red on them to create unity with the infantry models.

Just because I'm a sucker for fluff, tell me about your knight: is it piloted by a sister, or does the knight house have an allegiance with your Bloody Rose?

Thanks! The walkers are all in various stages of being worked on, with the knight being the closet to bring done. I plan on repainting both the penitent engines to better reflect the colorscheme, and to rebase the one that is hanging too low.

The Knight of Roses is a remnant of a small Knight House, on the planet Malfi, in the segmentum obscuras, whose pilot, Maria Thorn, was elevated for their fortitude in the face of chaos from the Planetary Defense Force, during an invasion by Khorne aligned Chaos Space Marines. She had manned a rapier laser destroyer, which single handedly turned the tide of battle by eradicating a land raider that had come dangerously close to the front lines, allowing the dominion squads to handle the Khorne Berserkers, while the rest of the PDF force had been overran by Chaos Space Marines led by a Juggernaut Lord.

The Planetary Defense Force of Malfi is supported by my section of the order of the bloody rose which is based at the Shrine of the seventeen martyrs. They clash regularly with the genecult that had infested that hiveworld, recently losing their Cannoness Preceptor Serafina Blackwood to a Kellermorph ambush while pursuing and investigating the (potentially Rogue) Inquisitor Lucius Dekker.

Hopefully we will get in a game soon, and I will write up a narrative battle report where her replacement, Acting Cannoness Jamie Van Der Beek will arrive and purge the xenos scum and all who would shelter them.

Hey guys! I finished another squad towards my 1000 pts, this is Yellow Squad

I am playing in a 350 pt Combat Patrol narrative event today, using the cities of death rules, and this is the team that I am bringing (I did manage to paint the unpainted battle sister, so the only unpainted models will be the seraphim, though I am very far behind on basing, and that will likely be my next project). I am excited! Haha hoping to do better this time then last time!

So, it's been a while. I've been mostly playing Killteam, which still doesn't have sisters, so I've been mostly working on my Apes.

But! I realized that miracle dice are going to be super difficult for me to keep track of, since I am already accidentally rolling my command point, faith point, or "I have this many wounds on this girl" dice, so I decided it would be easier to design some coins, 3d print them and paint them so I could easily recognize them.

The 1s are a rusty metal, 2s are tarnished bronze, 3s are bronze with silver inlay, 4s are silver with gold inlay 5s are golden and 6s are bright gold with a white inlay.

I printed 7 of each, and I tried to make them as distinct as possible, so I (and opponents) could easily tell at a glance what I had in reserve.
