Can we not close this one please, most of us seem to just want one thread just to chat, not for future info, but just to chat about the hobby and to socialise. No idea what to call that but closing the old one because it has to be categorised and recorded is against the whole point of the thread in the first place. This is a thread for socialising and making the most out of the hobby. Please stop turning every thread into a Wikipedia article!

What will likely happen is that discrete discussion posts will be split off of the old topic (already happening). After that, the original topic will be merged with this one as a "today I" ongoing discussion of random AT things.

Future replies in this topic that should be conducted as separate discussions (e.g., someone working on an army list, someone asking how to convert something, tactica, etc.) will be split off into separate discussions. It would be far better if people would just create them as separate discussions rather than putting them as replies here, but bad habits are hard to break.

That sounds like more effort than it's worth.

Is there any official wording anywhere on what color a volcano cannon beam is? I don't know what to do for weapon glows but I seem to remember a scene where a Shadowsword fired an orange beam at a gate blasting it apart in one shot. I cannot remember which book this was.  The GME box has an blueish white weapon glow so maybe I should go with that.

Today my mate and regular Titanicus opponent came round and we have a 17450 point game (both of us had 1740 though).

I ran - Warlord with missiles, plasma and volcano, Reaver with missiles, melta and gatling, Warhound with plasma and bolters in an Axiom maniple from a Crusade Legio supported by 2 banners of 2 Cerastus lancers and 2 banners of 2 Acastus with beams.

He ran - Reaver with missiles, melta and gatling, 4 warhounds armed with a pair of lasers/flamers/plasma/bolters respectively in a Venator maniple from Legio Tempestus supported by a lone Warlord with bolter array, macro gatling and plasma.

We both took scatter mines and thermal mines, though we both forgot to use thermal mines, turn 1 both our scatter mines scattered off the table, and over the 4 turns I opted not to place any scatter mines twice as I didn't need them. Pretty light on stratagem use!

In the end he managed to sunfury a banner of Acastus off the table, melta'd a banner of Cerastus of the table and kill 1 more Cerastus. I tabled him. As we had both rolled Engage and Destroy, that was a tidy 54-12 victory for me!

The biggest swings were in turn 1 when he boosted movement with a warhound and lost all his shields, promptly getting shot and exploding, and turn 3 when an Acastus banner stripped his warlord's shields leaving him wide open for my warlord to start shooting giant holes in him. Good times.

Today in Titanicus I'm looking at that Kickstarter whilst trying to work out if I can actually afford to go in on it. How reliable are they with their Kickstarters? I'm also building Warhounds.

Now you lot have got me looking at it! Maybe I’ll just go in on 1 credit for the ruins...

Did he ever get the Venator ability to proc? I keep thinking it's a cool ability that will only rarely happen and Warhounds seem really fragile to rely on.

Actually looking at the cost of 2 credits of £25 (which buys the already available industrial sector) and comparing it to the price of that set on Vanguard (£20) I’m going to take a chance and wait for retail. Glad it got funded though!

So I'm sitting here like a moron watching the AI teaser trailer trying to guess the size of the planes from the size of their hands.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/08/01/gencon-previewgw-homepage-post-1/

If his hands are roughly the size of mine then the Thunderbolt at 0:16 should be *roughly* AT scale.  Really it's the cockpit that matters compared to, say, a titan's head.  If a Reaver has a crew of 3 sitting in the head then the cockpit window of the Thunderbolt should be roughly 1/3 the width of the Reaver head.  The old AI rulebook says a Thunderbolt is about 43' long so that model should look okay next to titans on a battlefield.  The Valkyrie is about 58' long, I actually have a few resin ones I bought from FW for some stupid reason about 10 years ago.

I love airports so I could easily see printing an ATC tower, radar setup, and hangars for an AT battlefield with little planes parked by the runway.  Fun fact: as a kid I always wanted a model aircraft carrier with all the little planes on it because I desperately wanted to fly the Tomcat.

Laid down a bunch of Balthazar gold to make a dirty bronze on some of the weapons and kept layering on thinned contrast gray to the aluminum. That stuff gets dark FAST so be careful if you try shading things with it.  Pics tomorrow, I'm too tired to take them, run them through Hangouts to reduce them, upload them, etc.

If I figure out weapon glows I might have Legio Custodes done this week :unsure.:

Look at the tanks in the stretch goals though!

My thought of today: what kinda flyers would the Mechanicum have?

I have to agree with Fajita Fan that that's a lot of work.

The problem is we do not make separate posts of our random thoughts because most of the time they are just that, random thoughts about the hobby that for some reason or another spawn 10 pages of useful insight. Honestly I think it would be easier and quicker to simply leave the initial post untouched and make summary threads of the data collected. It has to be a similar workload and you will not annoy people who come here every day to catch up on the gossip and instead have to spend an hour finding their place in the untold amount of posts.

Support flyers would be squarish grav platforms, unfortunately most of the books I have read are from post Heresy where Mech tech takes a huge leap of the tech tree. In the war of the beast they were already using normal retro fitted navy/guard flyers with servitors in them. Looking at the tech in the crusades though its almost high sci-fi with grav servitors and such.

The Mechanicum had a ton of cool stuff lost during the Heresy as they brought found STC patterns back to Mars. When scrapcode was let loose on Mars whole forges lost all of their data as they were destroyed so tons of things (like SM jetbikes) couldn’t be made again.

I was working on a bomber craft model which had a similar type of armament as a Warhound. Basically flying Titans, or is that too much entering Tau territory?

Sure, why not? There’s also centipede-like walkers with siege guns in “Mechanicum” that can be kitbashed.
