I've got about 3000 points of Space Wolves, but I'm getting rid of them and reigniting my force as a purely Primaris force with some traditional elements (e.g. Wulfen).

I've always loved my Wolves, and only got back into gaming about 2 years ago after a long hiatus.  I'd never painted and army before, so I really wanted to get one done and be able to field a fully painted force.  I got great satisfaction getting it all done, but I didn't love many of the models as I painted quickly and didn't convert much at all.  Here is a taste of my old, quickly painted army that I've got the 3000 points of:

My next force will be all Primaris.  I love the new models, the size, the power.   I want a Primaris force with a fair bit of space viking and a little bit of wolf.  I'm mainly going for hairy heads and alternative helmets as I don't have the time for extensive conversion.  To kick things off, I've gotten into ETL for the first time and have just completed my first vow.  I need to snow the bases, but I think I'm going to do this en masse once a few more units are completed, but here are my first Intercessors and Aggressors:

Thanks everyone.  I think they're a big improvement, but I still need to be a bit more patient on my edge highlights, many of them are rubbish!  I painted a huge Death Guard army and didn't edge highlight any of the armour, I just used oil washed and shaded them more, so I'm very out of practice.

Up next are some HQ and an elite:

I had a old, old, Bjorn who is so stumpy and heavy.  I'm excited by my new one!

watch out petey i see a challenger for the title of artificer!

awesome paint job

Junior Artificer in Training perhaps.  Everything there is just a dodgy knock-off of Petey's work :D

Those are fantastic! Really nice work! I love how you've managed the cleanliness of the paint job while still making them stand out as grimdark.

Cheers, I do love the grimdark feel for 40k.  My original blue ones were a bit too light and cheerful.  I watched a YouTube video yesterday using AK Streaking Grime though, and I wish I'd used that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU39faMqvxc

Alrighty, I've just finished off my second vow.  I'm so happy with how these are all turning out now and I'm feeling much more confident with the paint scheme.

My snow recipe isn't quite what I want yet, it's not fluffy enough in the middle, or sludgy enough on the edges!  I need Petey to help me out...

Those are spectacular.

Very nicely done

Thanks mate! I'm really enjoying them, it's helped me fall in love with the wolves all over again.

Those are all beautiful. Not normally a fan of the baby-blue, but you nailed it. Really well modeled and painted.

Cheers! It's Petey's recipe, which has a lot more tones in it and is a fair bit darker overall.

What are you currently doing/using?

I used the Woodlands Scenics Soft Flake Snow and mixed it with PVA and applied, then used it mixed with 'Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish'.

I've got a feeling I didn't mix in enough of the PVA or medium, or I mixed too much and it dried out as I was applying.  I need to get to that stage you described where it will ball as you agitate it, then melt when resting.  That way it can smooth on the base.

Mine currently looks like animals have trodden all over it, but there's not marks!

Not sure how to fix it from here, I think I've got two options:

1) Apply a thinner mix over the top.  It could raise it too much, but hopefully it'll smooth it out.

2) Use some Agrax Gloss to apply some mud around and on it to make it look more disturbed.

Excellent works.

Ta!

I might need to redo my Bjorn soon. Cause that looks dang good.

Many thanks dude.  I must admit, I don't love all of the proportions on the Redemptor, but the old dreadnoughts just don't quite look right next to Primaris models.

Are those Karadron overlord heads on your Aggressors?

Yeah, they're the Puppetswar ones. What do you think? I was worried they'd be too small.

they are a little small and i feel like they clash tonally a little.

otherwise, i find your primaris work super inspiring! your intercessors are perfect! we're on the same page about somethings, i'm finishing up some intercessors myself - your work is making me very anxious to get them done and share. :)

I think they work well. When I saw them on their site, I kind of disliked them for the wings in the sides, which looked very fantasy viking (or even Asterix ) to me. But they match your agressors nicely, probably because they look quite high tech and machine like as well. While they are bit small, I could imagine that they just fit very tightly on the head (maybe they specifically adapt to the wearer).

Yeah, I agree that they are a bit small, but I did imagine them adapting to the wearer.  It's a bit more like a superhero mask!

Really enjoying your army! Fantastic use of primaris

Thank dude!

I don’t mix mine with varnish so maybe that’s why it’s falling apart a bit. But yea it’s for sure something with the ratios. I’d make some base swatches to get it how you like.

It's not exactly varnish that I'm using, it's more just a gloss medium: https://www.eckersleys.com.au/liquitex-gloss-medium-varnishes  I know use you a gloss gel medium, which probably makes it a bit more icy.  I think it I just mix less of the snow flakes in I should be okay, but like you said, I just need to test it out!

Thanks for the feedback, I agree with you on the size bit.  Tonally, do you mean the feel/look of them, or the colour?

I'm really happy with the Intercessors! The only thing is I wish I had enough good heads and time to do them all helmetless.  The easy to build squad looks a bit out of place.
