The Flesh is Weak!

End of September I have a 1000 point tournament coming up and since I have haven't played a tournament since May I thought this would be a good idea to get back into things. With the new codex in hand I came up with this list. I know it lacks some punch but I don't know what could come up at 1000 points.

Battalion:

HQ:

Primaris Captain - Power Fist, Plasma Pistol

Techmarine - Storm Bolter, Power Axe

TROOPS:

Intercessor Squad (5) - Chainsword, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher

Intercessor Squad (5) - Chainsword, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher

Intercessor Squad (5) - Chainsword, Auxiliary Grenade Launcher

HEAVY SUPPORT:

Relic Leviathan Dreadnought - Storm Cannon Array x2, Heavy Flamer x2, Hunter Killer Missile x3

Mortis Contemptor Dreadnought - Kheres Assault Cannon x2

Mortis Contemptor Dreadnought - Kheres Assault Cannon x2

Main play is marching forward with the dreadnoughts and staying in Devastator Doctrine to benefit the shooting power.

Intercessors either screen to the best of their abilities OR camp on objectives.

Alternative is swapping the captain with a Phobos Captain and swapping a Intercessor squad with a Incursor squad and dropping the Hunter Killer Missles.

Thoughts and ideas?

Trying to maintain the Iron Hands feel with vehicles and dreadnoughts.

Thanks!

Seems pretty solid. I'd March the dreads up the table while keeping them with 6 of the cpt and techmarine for obvious reasons and use the fire twice strat every turn on the leviathan. Your only real troublesome match up will the the knights or fellow marines. Personally at 1k I'd be running lots of rhino chassis tanks(whirlwinds and preds)

Got to play a game today.

Took the following list

Captain - Master Crafted Boltgun, Chainsword [Teeth of Terra]

Techmarine - Chainsword , Boltgun

Librarian - Stave

Intercessor Squad - Chainsword, Grenade Launcher

Intercessor Squad - Chainsword, Grenade Launcher

Intercessor Squad - Chainsword, Grenade Launcher, Stalker Bolt Guns

Leviathan - Storm Cannons

Mortis Contemtpor - Kheres Assault Cannon

Whirlwind

Went up against my IG friend who took (from memory)

Tank Commander - Battle Cannon Relic

Tank Commander - Punisher

Infantry Squad

Infantry Squad

Infantry Squad

Basalisk

Basalisk

Leman Russ Executioner

Manticore

T1

He had first turn and didn't do much other than kill a Intercessor. With the new stratagem to reduce damage on dreadnoughts really helps!

My turn I managed to damage a couple of his lemans and take out some guardsmen

T2

His turn he took some wounds off my Leviathan and a wound off my Whirlwind.

I came back and took out two guard squads and a leman, and wounded one of the basalisks.

T3

Saw more damage done to by Leviathan but my Techmarine and half damage keeps him fighting.

I took out the rest of the lemans with combined firepower of the dreadnoughts and surprisingly the stalker bolters!

T4

He didn't have much and didn't manage to do a lot to my dreads and Intercessors

I cleaned up the infantry and the rest of the basalisks and he only had a mantiore left with no more missiles.

What I learned

-Stalker Bolters are pretty good! I stayed in Devastator Doctrine to maximize my weapons

-Leviathan was a beast! Even with 5 wounds it still pumps out max dakka

-Whirlwind is a fun tool but never did much. I would prefer keeping the Stalker Intercessors on my back objective

-The libby power to increase toughness on the Leviathan helped a ton but I can't rely on it as I only passed it twice

-Slash Captain is pretty good too when mobs come close to my dreads.

Swapping Units:

Thinking of dropping the Libby and Whirlwind for Sternguard with Grav Cannons in a pod to harass their back field more. I would like something to reliably to be in their side of the board since most of my army is rather slow.

pretty solid, techmarine + leviathan + stratagems, thought nut to crack in 1000pts, more staying power than a knight ill say

The Leviathan defiantly needs a ton of attention to bring down. I think at one point he fired two basalisks, the manticore, and the leman russ battle cannon into it and only did 4-5 wounds.

I think he made a mistake going after it so hard. Take out your troops and go for objectives. Hard to say without knowing the mission though.

We played with just four objectives to keep it simple since we both took a long break and Spearhead Assault for deployment type(we normally play ITC). Two objectives center of the board and one in each deployment.

Most people tend to dump shots into him hoping to bring it down. In the past that worked, but now with it needing to be at 3 wounds to degrade it's profile it stays up much longer.
