TrawlingCleaner
As the title says, is there as much use for them now? The strat dropping down to 2 CP is amazing but now everything gets reroll ones it's not as great. The only use I see out of it now is if you're against eldar/heavy modifiers. What are your thoughts? Charlo
Remember it is still only heavy weapons that are buffed by the IH rules. Though most will probably build an army around that, a Cap/ CM still buffs all of your bolters, plasma, and most importantly: Close Combat, which I think would be the main reason. In addition, when bringing a smash captain, you'll want reroll all dice due to the -1 on the Thunder Hammer. I think I'll still use a CM to be honest, the amount of 2s I roll is ridiculous Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358391-use-of-chapter-masters-with-the-new-doctrine-buff/#findComment-5387127 Share on other sites

quasistellar
Yeah, in fact I don't know that I'd bring a regular captain unless I'm bringing the smash variety or upgrading him to chapter master. Depends on your list and who you're fighting. If you're fighting someone who wants to get into melee with you, a chapter master buffing, oh lets say a Leviathan with twin stormcannons, would be absolutely terrifying to attempt to charge. WarriorFish
Yeah he's still going to be useful, as he'll also account for any negatives to hit there may be I've used this Stratagem since it got the drop to 2CP and probably will continue to do so, he'll do great work supporting combined pushes it's not just about the heavy weapons - lots of Marines shooting with full re-rolls to hit creates a very reliable storm of fire, letting your big guns do the big talking where it's needed Granted it should never have been a Stratagem in the first place, but that's a different story TrawlingCleaner and Khornestar 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358391-use-of-chapter-masters-with-the-new-doctrine-buff/#findComment-5387170 Share on other sites
TrawlingCleaner
You're all totally right, refilling everything for 1s and 2s to combat and overwatch is all really good and something I didn't really think about too much when actually using it. The strat is still super useful, slightly less so on heavy weapons unless there's a modifier Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358391-use-of-chapter-masters-with-the-new-doctrine-buff/#findComment-5387177 Share on other sites
Charlo
Not to mention, Iron Hands hit on a 5+ in overwatch. 5+ with a re-roll is pure insanity. TrawlingCleaner
Not to mention, Iron Hands hit on a 5+ in overwatch. 5+ with a re-roll is pure insanity. I use 3 redemptors in my normal list and the reroll with the CM in overwatch meant I got 17 hits with the onslaughts. A lucky roll for sure but I think I only rolled 4 5-6s before rerolls. I'm not sure why I didn't think back and go. Hmm, maybe I should keep using the CM even with the new doctrine buff Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358391-use-of-chapter-masters-with-the-new-doctrine-buff/#findComment-5387184 Share on other sites
