Welcome to part two of the Blood Angels Unit of the Week Series!

Following the release of the 8th edition Codex, there is no better time to discuss all the units we have access to. Each week a different unit will appear, with the idea being that we discuss how best to use that model on the battlefield. Where part one will focus on the unique BA units and part two will focus on BA units that are new to this edition of the Codex, part three will discuss how to get the best use the generic units from the past that are still with us (and that many of us have in our armies still).

Note, this isn't to lament any nerfs, etc, from previous editions; the rules are as they are so try to unlock its potential for those who wish to use them all the same. Similarly, this thread is only for using the option being discussed; it matters not if you feel something is a better choice as such comments aren't constructive to the topic and shall be removed.

Without further ado, here's this week's entry:

What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a Phobos Librarian?
  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)?
  • Will you be running multiple units?
  • Footslog or transport? Retinue?
  • How are you making use of Concealed Positions and what psychic powers are you taking?
  • Are you buffing this unit? If so, how?
  • Stratagems of note?

Over to you.

Nb: Please note that Librarian, TDA Librarian, Primaris Librarian, and Librarian Dreadnought will be covered on a separate entry.

Obscuration discipline is worth it a lot more if you use Phobos marines a lot. Otherwise, a BA librarian set up in cover ready for turn 1 shenanigans with unleash rage + shield is a lot of fun. And it’s a cool model to boot, with an innate 1+ armour save in Cover.

Been having success running him with Wings and Quickening near my Invictors and Incursors.  With his move and the spells you can use him for some early charges to take out some backfield targets or tie down that non-flying vehicle.  He can also be in range for early dispelling if necessary.  Basically functions as another smash captain.  I use him, the smash captain and 2 Invictors for early pressure as the rest of my army moves into position and grabs objectives.

Why did I not think of this?! *immediately replaces an HQ unit in lists*. Smash, Libby dread, shady Libby, an invictor, DC, and scouts all in your face turn one?! Yes.

To give credit where credit is due, I picked this up from Mort’s thread for the east China opens. And coincidentally picked up a bunch of primaris marines from eBay...I still can’t believe I’ve done it.

Finally got around to finishing the Phobos Librarian that I picked up from Imperium. Fell free to use the image on the "Unit of the week" series as I don'tthink that entry hasa photo yet.

I have been thinking of using him to buff Death Company. Since he can deploy in the midfield with my Infiltrators, he will be in position to buff my Death Company if I use Forlorn Fury. The one problem with FF is that it tends to catapult the target unit out of range of supporting characters. This guy however will be in position to cast Shield of Sanguinius or Unleash Rage on them as they hurtle past. Slightly more fleshed out concept here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/371391-death-and-deceit-1500-points-of-blood-angels/

Cool model. Phobos products significantly improved my impression about primaris.

Since custodes punched psyker armies badly, librarian feels slightly better in meta. Fewer chance of missing Abhor witches, and higher chance for Psychic interrogation becoming available.
