Vermintide
Behold, an ancient awakening evil. Buried beneath the sands of their long dead, undisturbed and barren tomb worlds, an army almost as old as the stars themselves, by comparison to lesser races, has lain in waiting. Noticed neither by imperial merchant fleets, or the probing tendrils of the Mechanicus, undetected by the seers of the Eldar, and ignored by the exploratory drones of the T'au, a dynasty amongst the oldest and most gifted of the inscrutable Necrontyr has hibernated.Such an incomprehensible gulf has passed since this enclave committed itself to centuries untold of dreamless sleep, that even if their inhospitable, arid worlds were to be scrutinised by meddling outsiders, all traces of their civilisation would have been scoured away by the ravages of time. Even the power reserves fuelling the vast tomb labyrinths have dwindled over this vast and silent span; millennia have passed with all but the most vital of life support subsystems remaining active. Such was the Phaeron's last will, a chilling order given to the handful of chosen cryptek, before his own interment- "Let all become dust. We do not wake until the stars alone remain. All other priorities expendable."And so the years consumed everything that had made the Necrontyr what they were. The metal shells they had committed their consciousness to endured; but the memory banks, one by one, were deactivated. The archival vaults containing artefacts and tomes of ancient knowledge were powered down, allowed to decay and corrode. The Phaeron's will was carried out, but the cost was unimaginable. As the last precious energy reserves ran dry, the emergency awakening protocols brought the dynasty and it's members to life once more- But they emerged into an empty world, bereft of self identity, with only their gleaming metallic bodies and the glyphs upon their carapace to stir a distant, elusive memory of who and what they once were. TL;DR- My Necrons are oldcrons with a regal Egyptian vibe. None of the new fluff matters here- These guys don't remember anything, they only have hatred of the living, and they're gonna flay the face off your skull. When I got back into the hobby a year or two back, I originally intended to re-use all my old Necrons. I had a pretty decent army back in the day. Alas, to my horror, it turns out my parents threw it all in the trash... So I had no choice but to rebuild them, even greater than their former glory Conveniently, this was also a super cheap army to collect- I started out with a Forgebane set, snagged a few duplicate sprues from eBay, and then pretty just much added in two Start Collecting boxes, and hey presto. It's not exactly a top tier army, but it's a damn fine NECRON army!I still have a few things I'm working on adding to the army. The most notable units missing from this dynasty's previous incarnation are Destroyers, Pariahs, and finally, the Nightbringer himself. Pariahs are an unfortunate loss- But for now, I'm basically pretending that's what the Lychguard are. The Barges are obviously new, and I didn't like them at first, but they've grown on me I guess. And I figure they'll look pretty good floating up behind a raft of Destroyers...Hope you all enjoy some classic 'crons, anyway. Cheers! NTaW
I for one am ready for more oldCron vibes and the colour scheme looks great. Do you plan on writing more background as the collection progresses? I'd be curious to read how you work in the Nightbringer. Captain_Krash
Can't not comment on a oldcron army. Tyriks
Looking great! What colors go into the shoulders? Vermintide 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358886-the-nameless-dynasty/#findComment-5400641 Share on other sites
Vermintide
I for one am ready for more oldCron vibes and the colour scheme looks great. Do you plan on writing more background as the collection progresses? I'd be curious to read how you work in the Nightbringer. I might do, although once I have those last few models I don't think I'll be expanding for a while. Maybe if I have money to burn a monolith or two would look real nice on the shelf... Working in the Nightbringer is gonna be a fun opportunity to think outside the box. People have always criticised oldcron lore because it's "boring" and hard to fluff out, but that's exactly where I see the appeal. Looking great! What colors go into the shoulders? As I recall it's Kantor Blue, a dark blue ink I don't know the name of (I got it in one of those starter sets, I like having a variety of colours on hand without buying individual pots I'll never use all of) and then just 50/50 blue/white for the highlight. I'd be lying if I didn't say one reason I love Necrons is that they look great even with a super simple, low effort paint job. It's nice to relax with if I don't feel like expending the mental energy my other army takes. JaM_TW
Yes! Another Oldcron army. :) I also ignore the new fluff, necrons will always be the race that just wants to exterminate them all. I have a lot of metal raiders and immortals (and destroyers!) but I've picked up a few plastic wraiths for cheap lately. Guess that since they are no longer the flavour of the week, people are ditching them. I dont care, I'll build them up and paint them. Boltgunmetal FTW! :D Welcome back to the hobby. Vermintide
Totally forgot I ever made this thread. The Xenos corners of these halls are a little quiet it seems... But alas, an ancient and deadly force has arisen from the dusty, cobwebbed chambers of the tomb complexes. At last the Lords and Nemessors of the Nameless Dynasty feel something, if they can be said to feel, that they have not experienced in aeons. Dread. The Nightbringer, a living fragment of a once unfathomably powerful star god, one of the very C'Tan that conquered and subjugated the old ones in the distant, embryonic past of the galaxy, had awakened. The bonds which should have kept the shard securely contained had been broken like silk threads, the being free, with all of its terrible power unrestrained. Though the leaders of the once great dynasty could not say with certainty what had brought about the circumstances of this creature's escape, or even the reasons for its internment, they unanimously agreed that the ancestors (as they had come to refer to their inscrutable past selves) must have had good reason. The shriek that had echoed across the tomb complex cut through the faded mists of time and resonated somewhere within the very core of each sentient Necron. It was as the Phaeron's council of crypteks, generals and lesser nobles bickered heatedly over this mysterious development, waving their staffs furiously, pointing insistently at holo-schematics and gesticulating in scorn at their counterpart's evident disagreement, that a chilling presence silenced all of them. A hooded figure, slender, yet imposing, seemed to fill the hall from the floor all the way to the top of the grand, blackstone columns. Reality seemed to warp around the cold, pale flesh of the visitor, who drifted forward motionlessly, and extended and arm to beckon the Necron overlord, as he rose sharply from his throne, eyes blazing. At once, each of the Necrons present were wracked with haunting visions, images of themselves in a distant age, vast, marching phalanxes of regal soldiers, the great Phaeron himself wearing flesh... The visions ended as quickly as they had begun, too incoherent to make sense of, and the Necron leader stumbled back, falling to the feet of his own throne as this evil entity loomed over him. The hall reverberated with a singular dripping, rasping syllable: "Seeeeeerve..." Damn straight, it's ya boi Aza'gorod, and he ain't down for none of this shard malarkey. Callin' the shots, the way it should be. This dude was real fun to paint, but sadly kind of let down by the resin model. Just terrible, you can kinda see where it was too rough for me to really salvage. Don't think I'll ever forgive my parents for throwing out the metal one I had as a kid More new additions I've worked on over the last year or so: Classic Destroyers. One of my favourite models. Also started on some of the Indomitus stuff, mainly just a few Warriors to bump my numbers up, and the new Scarabs which look great. I tried to get these guys to blend in as best as possible with the old school green rod fellas, though. Not sure I like the decrepit, disrepaired interpretation of the new ones. And just a couple of fun bonus shots Necrons are just very photogenic. Captain Coolpants
Great army! Seeing these armies with a bit of colour in them makes me regret my boring bronze and silver choices aha Vermintide 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358886-the-nameless-dynasty/#findComment-5704897 Share on other sites
